Sneak peek for any "The Last Hope" readers for the upcoming sequel, "The Point of No Return". If you don't want a spoiler, you can walk away. But if you want to read this, then go ahead.
"We'll train some more tomorrow," Tigersnap meowed, padding away.
Cougarpaw sighed, looking down at her pitiful catch. My scrawny little mouse next to Glorypaw's 5 birds. Even Jabberpaw's stupid squirrel makes me look like a fool! She looked up, and felt embarassment and anger rip through her pelt when she saw Wetsnow and Coldcrow muttering to eachother. Even though the brothers always did, she knew it wasn't good when they were looking at her while they did so.
Wetsnow padded up to her, and she immediately snarled at him, "Leave it, Wetsnow!"
"You don't even know what I was going to say," he meowed calmly.
She narrowed her multi-colored eyes. Cougarpaw had always hated his natural smirk. "Then make sure it isn't a waste of my time."
"Talk to warriors with respect, Cougarpaw!" Birdsong scolded as she passed by and grabbed one of Glorypaw's birds.
"I hate you," Cougarpaw said angrily to Wetsnow once she was gone.
He just smiled and chuckled. "I uh, see you're having trouble with your apprenticeship."
"I told you to leave it!" She hissed.
"I'm not making fun of you," Wetsnow meowed, taking her off-gaurd. "I want to help you."
"What?"
"I turn you everything you ever wanted to be," Wetsnow meowed. "I can see where you're coming from. You want to be the best you can be, and outshine every other cat. I love my brother, but I wanted to prove to my mother that I was better than Coldcrow. I can help you outshine anyone, even a cat that lives up to their name, Glorypaw."
"What about Tigersnap? And is it really going to be good for me if I live knowing I needed two mentors to be good at anything!" Cougarpaw snarled.
Wetsnow wasn't taken off balance. "You're the daughter of Northstar, the great leader that kept hope in WolfClan's safety when every other cat gave up, and Ozzy, an amazing warrior that spent a good part of his life as a kittypet. Larkwing's a great warrior, and Cinderclaw's a great medicine cat. Tigersnap's a good warrior. Everyone has great expectations in you. That means their giving you more room to fail. What's everyone going to think about Northstar and Ozzy? Your older siblings? You're mentor? How will it make them look? What about yourself?" He meowed harshly.
"You can't let Glorypaw have the satisfaction of thinking she's the best. I can help you get your name up there with Northstar, a name no one will ever forget."
Cougarpaw tilted her head. "What's in it for you?"
"I get to be your hero," Wetsnow said arrogantly.
"I still hate you," Cougarpaw said right after he finished.
"You think your my dream apprentice?"
Cougarpaw shrugged. "Yeah."
Wetsnow rolled his eyes. "Well? You let me be your mentor, I help you be the best of the Clan, only second to me."
She snorted, then replied, "Deal."
