The young pup chased a leaf along the ground, pouncing on it with cat-like grace. He rolled, his crown slipping over his eyes. His mother watched on, smiling sadly. He looked so much like his father. Hopefully, the same fate did not await him. Assassins, it seems, are willing to kill who ever they need.
The pup brought the leaf up in his paw. He showed it to his mother, who sighed.
"Tobin..." she said. Her son waved her off, proceeding with his trick.
Tobin lifted one paw slowly over the other. Gently, slowly, the leaf drifted upwards, levitating in mid-air.
"Listen. You are to be the Prince. Princes do not waste time on magic," his mother said irritably. Tobin flicked his ears, irritated. He dropped the leaf and stalked back to his mother.
High in a tree, far above the dogs, stood a red-tailed hawk. His claws gripped into the branch, steadying himself in the breeze. He watched over the pup, gazing at his magic trick. The hawk smiled.
"Well, well, well. Look here, Jax. An apprentice...?" he murmured to himself. He fluttered down off the branch, flaring his bright tail feathers as he hit the ground.
"Greetings, young Heir," he said, bowing low to the ground. Tobin looked at him, cocking his head.
"Hello," he said cheerily. "Do you want to see a magic trick?" he asked, ignoring his mothers eye-rolling.
"Why of course, sir. I saw your trick before and could not help being intrigued by your talent in magic," he said, beady eyes fixed on Tobin's paws as he picked up a stick. He held it in front of the bird and flicked his paws. The stick was gone.
Like that, they became inseparable. A magician and his apprentice.
Lazy story xD
