Story
I lifted my head to see the world. I was only about a month old then. I snuggled close to my mother and closed my eyes. I slept until night fell. My siblings and I huddled close together. It was the middle of winter, and freezing as well. I didn't look a thing like my mother, or my siblings. I never knew my father. Mother curled around us. I asked her about Father. She said he had run away from home.
"Why?" I asked.
"I don't know, sweetheart." Mother said, and fell into a deep sleep.
I did, too.

In the morning, Mother left to go find food for herself. Later, a blizzard came. We stayed close, having nothing for warmth but each other. We saw a shadow in the blizzard, one shaped like Mother, only a bit bigger. I think it was Father. Mother never came back.

A month later, someone found us and took us to the nearest pound. I watched my siblings go, one by one. I was the only one left.

It had been almost a year before someone looking for a cat came in. She saw me and took me home. I struggled the first time she picked me up, but eventually got used to it.

Now I live with the girl, Samantha. It has been almost 5 years since the day Mother disappeared.
