Kismet leans back after taking his last bite of lamb chops. His stomach feels full, but it's a comfortable kind of full. It's the kind of ache that you'd feel after having a delicious meal, and Kismet was feeling exactly that. Hades mimics Kismet's movements unintentionally, letting his body rest on the chair dramatically as he lets out a satisfied sigh. It's staring at Kismet, and no matter how calm it tries to appear, it's red eyes will never not seem intense.
"Kis," Hades starts, and there's a smooth tone to his voice, but Kismet doesn't seem to be too interested. "I'm not in a mood for flirting, Hades. Please.
"Just give me a chance, come onnn, hey-" Kismet raises a paw, stopping Hades mid-sentence. Hades pouts, dramatically, as if Kismet would see. Kismet turns his head towards the taller kalon, and it could practically feel Kismet's glaring gaze. Yes, Hades knew that Kismet was blind, but just feeling the glare felt so... distant.
It seemed to be the same for Kismet. He could tell that Hades was sad, no matter how hard Hades attempted to hide. Truth be told, Kismet had the same feelings for Hades it did for him. However, due to the amount of things he's gone through, he just couldn't afford to lose another lover. If it was his way, Kismet would've married Hades within an instant, given it all of the jewels and gifts that it would like. But Kismet just... couldn't be in love right now. At least not in a relationship. Not after losing Astra. No matter how long it's been without Astraeus, Kismet's heart still rots with guilt, and he's been left heartbroken ever since the incident. Astra, his first lover, was gone, and he'd never find someone like him. He couldn't get any closer to Hades. He's not risking it. Kismet is not risking it. Ever again.
"Look, I know you're scared. You're scared of losing me," Hades mumbles, as if reading Kismet's mind. "Just like you lost Astraeus. Like we lost him," The taller kalon sighs out, looking down. It's too embarrassed to even try looking at Kismet.
"Don't say that name to me." Kismet growls, and it's a warning, but Hades has never been good at taking those. Kismet feels tears prickle in his eyes just at his lovers name. Astraeus.
"We won't be here forever, darling," Hades makes his voice smooth. Kismet can feel his heart aching. It hurts. "What happened.. it was a tragedy. Nobody could've prevented it, not even you or me. If either of us could've, I know we would, and,"
"That's enough."
"Just look at Tricks! Come on Kis, I just need you to trust me. I'm not going anywhere."
"Hades." Kismet's voice is low, and Hades seems to hesitate, even if just for a moment. It's a warning. Hades still doesn't seem to catch on.
"Just listen to me, please?" Hades whines, inching himself closer to the table in his seat. "No." Kismet snarls, his paws are bunched up as if in fists, and he's shaking. Kismet's going to burst any moment now. How could Hades be so oblivious?
"It wasn't your fault, Kismet. It wasn't your fault ever, and it wasn't your fault that Nero was so, so terrible to you and-"
"I said enough, Hades!" Kismet screams at the top of his lungs, covering his head with his paws, putting his head down on the table. There's no fighting his tears now, and he can't help but feel nothing but anger and sadness wash over him.
Not until Hades lets out a sniffle. Hades is silent, deathly silent. The kind of silent that Kismet has grown to hate. The room's tension is thick, and Kismet feels like he's nearly suffocating in it. Kismet has never heard Hades sniffle, let alone be this silent during moments like these. His anger switches to guilt, and he peeks up from where he's covering his head. Watching Hades instantly turn around.
Hades is too distressed to face Kismet, and it feels guilty, too. They both crossed the line. Both of them know, but neither are ready to apologize, let alone look at each other. "Please just- excuse me for a bit. I'm sorry, I-" Hades cuts itself off with a harsh cough, and he feels goop slide down from his mouth. It feels and looks gross.
Hades will never adjust to being this upset, and the goop coming out only comes out when... it's this upset. Watching the substance slide down its cheeks and onto one of its paws, Hades feels as if his only option is to flee the scene for a bit before calming down. It tries, but Kismet is quick to stop it, springing up from their seat.
"No, Hades, stop. Please, I shouldn't have yelled. I apologize for that," Kismet says, walking over to Hades and pulling it in for a comfortable hug. Hades is shaking too now, and Kismet feels even more guilty. "I didn't mean to push, I swear, I thought it'd help- I just wanted to help you." Hades mumbles into Kismet's shoulder, desperately trying to get that gross goop out of his mouth and eyes. It hates feeling so weak, it hates being sensitive, and Kismet knows that.
But Kismet's hushing its and rubbing its back, keeping their voice as sweet as they can. "I love you so much. Don't leave. I am scared, but I can't lose you too." Hades whines at Kismet's words, entwining their paws so they held hands. Hades thinks Kismet's scent is lovely, but everything about Kismet is lovely.
Kismet pulls away from Hades, and Hades sniffles shaking away any other tears. "I'm not leaving. I'll do anything to keep us safe, I'll keep our family safe. I know I will." Hades is too scared to move. Hades doesn't want to lose Kismet.
"Our family is safe with you," Kismet mumbles with a smile.
