Chosen Prompt: Write about a strange dream that this kal once had
Prompt Response:
The Ink Master was floating through an endless space, only half their body intact. The rest was a black mass of ink. The stars glittered miles apart from eachother. The swirls of space dust dusted their fur and made them feel like they were themself a body of ice as if they were one of Saturns rings. Everything felt cold but in a good way. He felt extraordinarily light and joyous.
Then everything fell dark. The stars disappeared one by one, the dust was blown away, even all the planets disappeared before their very eyes. It was like a mass void of nothingness. They felt colder now than before, a more uncomfortable chill that ran down their spine and gripped their skeleton in an icy grasped that was most associated with death. They felt scared, they shivered.
A light shone up ahead as a hole came into picture. The Ink Master flew straight for it and ended up in a unique world. It was bright and colorful and you could hear singing evrywhere you went.
"Welcome to HAPPYLAND!" a small pink fuzzy kitten with bulging sparkly eyes sang. The Ink Master blinked.
"What?" they said in confusion. "Happyland?"
"No say it with exhuberance. HAPPYLAND!" the kitten sang.
"HAPPYLAND is like... in my dream?" they asked.
"I don't know you tell me" the kitten ran off.
The Ink Master usually had less... pink dreams than this. The ground was soft like cotton candy, the sky was as blue as blue could get. The grass sprouted out in a way that it almost looked like long strands of confetti. The trees looked like lollipops. The bushes like fluffy clouds covered in gumballs. This place was a cavities nightmare it was so sugary sweet and sickening.
"Definitely unique" they pondered, "I wonder what else this place has in store".
There were cute little animals wandering about, singing. One was flying upside down. Such silly sights. A familiar face rose from the candy mists.
"Pip!" The Ink Master called out to the gray kalon that was prancing about like a joyful little mare. "Such good to see you old friend, how are you?"
Pip however had something about him that was off. Pip had a sickenly sweet smile on his face and his eyes were bulging wide and sparkly. He looked like a 6 year old's anime drawing.
"Helllloooooo friendoooooo" he sang in a happy little tune. "What brings you to my happy little land?" glitter came from his nostrils like a fire breathing dragon.
"Uh... quite. I don't know how I got here, or how you got here for that matter. Why exactly are you here and how did you manage to leave your world?"
"I have always been here don't you know?" Pip's head made a horror movie angle around. "They don't know!" he said and the creatures echoed.
Suddenly the land started to turn gray and everything started to melt away. The Ink Master stared in horror as their friend started to melt away into a mass of ink.
"We've always been here!" everything started to fade to black but morphed as it went along, turning to trees and vines. Suddenly they were in the wilds again, the only real memory they had of their home world. They were fighting for their life, cutting vines and branches, stumbling over rocks. They felt like a young inkling again, alone and afraid.
"Hello?" they called out.
"They don't know" they heard echoed over and over again.
"Stop it! What don't I know?" they cried out. The wilds seemed to spiral around them in a nauseating swirl of torment and agony. they screamed in terror.
"Don't let me go!" they flopped to the earth sobbing. "Don't let me go..." they covered their head with their arms. Suddenly everything fell silent and the world stopped spinning. They looked around and noticed everything was normal again... just an endless space they were floating in. They let themself be drifted through the endless void. It still felt too cold.
Another portal opened up, another blinidng light. This time they let themself go through peacefully, as they didn't feel fear from this one. This one seemed to lead to their home this time, on the world they decided to settle in. It was quiet, birds chirped, sunlight filtered through the trees onto the roof of the abode. The plants munched hungrily on plants. Even their favorite fruit was ripe and ready to be picked. They settled down inside and on their couch, staring off into the endless void in their mind. Something about that candy nightmare stuck with them.
"They don't know" they whispered to themself, a cold chill of unease running down his spine once more. "They don't know"
It was truly unnerving what had happened, but at least they were home again. Was all this still a dream? Could they figure out the answer somehow if they woke up? The Ink Master closed their eyes and willed themself to wake up from this dream.
When they opened their eyes they were lying in bed, staring up at the ceiling as sunrise declared itself upon the walls of their bedroom. The crust from their eyes forced them to close again and wipe a paw across their face to rid of them. Nothing felt any clearer yet. They were just as confused as they previously were about what had happened in that sugar coated dreamscape.
Sugar can give you nightmares, he thought. He looked down at the fruit he never finished last night, something new he had tried and wasn't certain if he liked. It had been sickenly sweet like the smell of rotting meat and he detested it, as it made his body reject it.
"Maybe that's what did it" he wondered out loud to himself. Everytime he closed his eyes he saw the face of his friend contorted and melting like a horror show. It terrified him and he tried blinking away the nightmare, but it stuck
"They don't know... they don't know..."

Chosen Prompt: Are there any unique holidays?
Prompt Response:
“Merry christmas inky! We got your favorite! A triple decker chocolate and vanilla swirl cake dyed with the plants from universe 62s dream plants. We also topped it with orange and dragon fruit infused whipped topping.” barely showing any real amount of emotions, they rly very calculated, “ well thank you kindly madam. I'm perplexed how you found out the exact thing I was craving, but I suppose that could just be a simple ‘good guess’.” The Ink Master gently sits down next to the odd looking woman. Only moments have passed when the last piece of cake was plunged into their mouth. With the fork hanging out of the kalons mouth they begin to talk like a far away dream drifting in the sea. “Yah know, this kinda reminds me of the last holiday I remember having in my home land….”
Back many many many years ago, my people, every year would have this day of celebration for those who have become big enough to house their ink. They would venture out into the deadly wilds around the village. These areas were as thick as your forest of rain, but three times as deadly. Most who go out into our wilds would never come back. So as a last send off gift, we would celebrate to the most grand measure. Nothing was spared. Breaking even entire houses to make grand decorations. Playing music and dancing so loud that the earth below us was the wildest one there. Finishing off with the biggest feast you’ll ever lay your eyes on. So enormous that it would end the world of hunger many times over.
This would span the course of 2-3 days. On the last night, all of the candidates would sleep together under the specks of the inbetween. Knowing full well some would not survive the journey tomorrow. We were sent off with one last form of decorations to look like the spiral of a cornucopia of life leading only to our demise. You could feel the fear in the air build as the parchment boards laid the way over the gorge separating the village and the wilds. None could run in fear, for the only way to move was forward. As the last of us stepped off, air rushed behind us, most of us panicked, looking around only to realize we were nowhere near the village. We were dropped off in the middle of viney hell. Like the scene from ratatouille we all scattered in different directions. Some ended up traveling together but I wasn't so fortunate.
Alone, cold, and mostly afraid. I rushed to make my own place to stay, a shelter made from whatever may be near. I knew, I knew very well that the first night was going to be the turning point. The first day of death. Well the god of night finally gripped the wilds, the sight could never be forgotten. The trees started to secrete the inks like the streams of wet paint dropping off a canvas. Illuminating the wilds with smoke coming off of them. There is a symphony of colours blocking out all other images. The sound of many screams, friends with the scarps and snarls surrounding them. Amongst the beautiful chaos, I see one stream that's calling to me. A stream as black as the inbetween, but with the feeling of pure life. I knew it was my ink. I knew what I had to do. Sprinting out of my haven, I grip and scrape for my steam, begging for the beast to ignore me. To no avail, my prayers were ignored. The beast latched onto my leg like I was the last meal. With the last bit of my hope, I pleaded with my ink to come save. When I thought it was going to be my last moments, I felt the warmth of the beast of ink crash onto my body. Slumping the mass off of me, I bolt back to the chase for my ink, only to find it surrounding me like my own personal pool.
“That was the last I remember of my world. The events that happened next would have to be told in a different story. For now we have to address the elephant in the room.” The kalon looked over at the woman with the biggest smile. In front of all the others, the woman vanished into a poof of black smoke. “Sorry, they weren't themselves anymore. Controlled by the enemies I've made, I had to save them. Now where was I…”

A small poker chip with a heart in the middle.
Hazard doesn't usually get much, so bloods most sentimental item is the tie Denye gave blood as a thanks for being there for pixel.

Chosen Prompt: What is one myth or story unique to their world?
Prompt Response:
“A myth…or story?” Calypso pondered, “Actually there is one. A story on how we get our gorgeous tails. There is a bit of legend to it but some fact too. Now where to begin.”

“It was a very long time ago, with the first settlers. They came to this valley and decided to stay. Something about the land being fertile and the water, you know the usual stuff. I can’t remember how many there were but some say at least a hundred. So I guess I mean to say something is bound to happen to someone right? Anyways so I guess these settlers had never seen shooting stars before. So on our now festival night, they gazed up at the shooting stars for the first time. And of course they were amazed. They didn’t know what they were but they stood in awe and watched them all night. When the morning arrived apparently everyone went back to bed only to come out in the evening once more this time with a bonfire going so everyone could stay warm and enjoy them well late into the evening. And overtime this ritual slowly became a tradition. They quickly learned how to chart the evening sky and could accurately predict when the next arrival of the shooting stars would happen after years of watching them. Now our story follows a young fellow named Gael. He was apparently smitten by the shooting stars. Went absolutely bonkers when they came around and was extremely depressed when they left. He wanted to somehow stop them from leaving and well, he obviously did not succeed as they did not follow his command, everyone knows that. Anyways, one evening he was trying again to make them come down when one actually did. He thought he managed, but we know it’s a natural thing that happens once a while. And we know how to deal with the aftermath. But Gael didn’t and ended up burning his tail right down to a stump when it hit him. Of course he tried to catch it instead of getting away safely, but I guess he wasn’t the sharpest tool. So anyways, his tail is burned off and he’s in a lot of pain. That’s when this..small…yellow creature shows up. There isn’t a description of it but apparently it ended up taking the shape of us. So I guess the original form doesn’t matter anymore. This Kalon felt bad for Gael, they had actually seen him watching and begging the shooting stars to come down so they finally did. But before they could help Gael he ran off back down to the village ashamed of what had happened. So this small yellow creature stayed by their rock and waited. Apparently they waited for 5 days and nights before finally getting angry enough to come down to the village while the festivities were wrapping up. They found Gael holed up in his house and even though they were described as being tiny, managed to drag him out into the middle of the square. He was laughed at, humiliated apparently. I recall reading that he actually tried to harm this yellow Kalon but they stopped him. She introduced herself as Estelle, and she wanted to make things right. But only if he’d agree. He must have agreed because no sooner had she spoken those words she had blessed him with a beautiful tail that resembled the shoot star trail that we see. Of course Gael was thrilled but Estelle said she had to go back as her time was over. Gael regretted not seeking her out but she promised to come visit next year as long as he didn’t try to catch her. Now you think this is the end? No. Others grew jealous of Gael’s tail and when the festival returned the following year and Estelle joined them again they demanded she bless them as well. I think the story says that the village was torn in two. Half were content and happy and the other half jealous and angry. It made for a very awkward year. Some families were even split in half because of it. Now Estelle has apparently felt very bad at the rift she had caused in the village. And through the entire festival she had confined herself to a small house offered to her trying to come up with a solution. Gael was the only one allowed to visit and at some point he asked her to change his tail back that way no one would be special anymore. She was touched at his selfless act to go back to the way he was before and finally left the house she was given and rejoined the celebrations. Everyone had stopped to listen to her speak. She had come to a conclusion that all the adults would receive a tail like Gael’s. The children would only get it once they make it to adulthood and from then on out it would be passed down through the next generations. That seemed to pacify everyone. Even those who were content with what they had were excited on the prospect of getting something beautiful. So with that being said Estelle granted every adult a new tail. And while everyone was celebrating she disappeared.”

Calypso sighed a bit and stretched herself out. “So that’s that. Something from outer space liked us so much that they gave us something beautiful. Well..I guess I might have embellished the story a little bit but it’s mostly true. Actually the rest of the ending is that when Estelle vanished she had left a letter for Gael. And we still have that letter. It’s heavily protected now but I’ve seen it. No one knows where Estelle went or what’s written on the letter anymore since that language is not our own. We assume she gave Gael the ability to read it but no one else has figured it out yet. And no one has seen Estelle since then.” Calypso looks over a small smile forming on her face.

Kalon Link: insomnia tenebrous - oekaki page
Chosen Prompt: "Who would they consider enemies?"
      Prompt Response:
Insomnia’s eyes opened just the smallest sliver. Aqua met ice as Telestel glared back at him. Telestel’s icy eyes pierced through him as their gaze intensified, full to the brim of disdain and distrust. His employer scrutinized him, down to a cellular level. The eye contact continued. Or… did it? With another blink, Insomnia rubbed the sleep from his eyes and noticed Telestel had never been there, at all... The second that had felt like years was over, and again, Insomnia was alone in his dark, dreary room. He sat upright, slowly, groggily, rubbing his eyes and blearily trying to find the source of the shadow he’d seen in his nightmare, the shadow with icy eyes. In the jail cell he called his room, however, there was no one there. No one at all.

        Only ghosts and figments.

Insomnia slowly pried himself from his bed. He stumbled over to the mirror in his room and peered at his reflection. His aqua eyes were burdened with harsh, heavy bags, and his body felt just as weighed down as his tired eyelids. His ears pinned themselves back against his head, hiding in his mess of hair, and seeing the logo of his employer in his lapel made him feel ill. Telestel… His employer’s eyes were still looming at him, not in person through those icy frames, but intangibly from every camera in the building. Somehow, impossibly, he saw from every corner, peered out of every shadow, watched every breath… That’s how it felt, anyway.

Insomnia curled up underneath his blanket to write in his journal. It was a shoddy, haphazard attempt at secrecy, but it was the best he had. He wanted Telestel out of his head, out of his heart and away from his personal emotions. He knew Telestel wasn’t… personally watching. No, he’d never even met Telestel in person… the name of the person, Telestel, was just another name by which Insomnia referred to the company he worked for, the very same that made him work as a spy against his wishes. Telestel and the company named after him may as well have been one in the same, though. The company was just an extension of Telestel’s wishes, the buildings and personnel all extensions of his body meant to execute his desires. He reflected on his employer, whose prying eyes made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end.

How had he even learned Telestel’s eye color, he wondered? It was probably one of the ominous portraits hanging in the halls of the building, who also seemed to watch him as he passed. Probably the icy chill that he felt whenever he heard a recording of Telestel’s voice. Probably a mix of both of those, paired with the association of his employer with bitter, cold and unforgiving winters.
This man that he hadn’t even met was his truest enemy. The barrier between himself and the world he wanted to live in, between himself and the life he wanted to live. If it weren’t for Telestel and his company keeping Insomnia trapped in this cement block cell, then he’d be with his best friend again, he’d be free of all the lies and would no longer carry the burden of shame that dishonesty had cast on him. But such was not his reality… so he wrote in his journal these thoughts about his employer, who was his only true enemy—who was, in fact, a symbol of everything bad in Insomnia’s life.
If it hadn’t been for Telestel, then Insomnia would be a normal person, living a normal life. Instead, however, he was a professional spy with no friends and no one who cared whether he lived or died. He had lost his only worthwhile connection with his best friend because of Telestel. He had become a worse person because of Telestel. He had lost himself, and the good things about himself, because of Telestel. There was so much he could blame on Telestel… and he wrote about all of it. He scrawled out those vicious thoughts, desperate to get them out of his head.

If Telestel saw this, he would be furious. But Insomnia did not care.
He scribbled that Telestel was the warping force who had destroyed his good qualities, who had severed his ties with his friends, who had made him into this awful person he’d become. He scrawled out about how the icy eyes made his blood chill and boil simultaneously. Though he had never even seen Telestel’s face outside of ominous paintings… he hated Telestel. He hated Telelstel more than anyone or anything else.

He concluded that his enemy, his one true enemy, was Telestel, slamming the journal closed with a clack as the lock sealed once more. As he went to put the notebook away in the drawer that he’d grabbed it from, he noticed his reflection out of the corner of his eye. His aqua eyes met one another, and he took in his miserable state again.
Was it fair to blame Telestel for everything? Had his animosity for Telestel grown so unfocused and abstract that Telestel had ceased to be a person, but metamorphosed into an idea? An idea that represented something else entirely… Telestel had, over time, apparently become the abstract concept of bad, the source of all evil. Was… Insomnia just using Telestel as a vector for his animosity? As a way that he could direct his anger at how things had turned out in his life? Maybe Telestel was just the face he had grown to associate with his own destroyed future, with his own weak moral character and shoddy personage…

As he studied his own expression in the mirror, he wondered whether it was Telestel he hated, or whether it was himself. Was his enemy the person who had “made him” into this person, or was his enemy the person he had become?

He shook this trance off, breaking eye contact with himself.

No, surely it was Telestel’s fault. Surely.

        Surely.

Chosen Prompt: "What was their favorite childhood toy?"
      Prompt Response:
Insomnia held the sorry excuse for a plush toy in his hands. It wasn’t… his toy, exactly. It was technically his best friend Reverie’s. But the two had shared it for so long that it at least in part belonged to both of them. The stuffed animal, affectionately nicknamed “Puppet” due to its previous origins as a massive marionette, was an odd stuffed creature that was somewhat like a furred dragon and somewhat like a dog or a bear. Puppet had a body of gray fur, four legs with big paws in the front and a mane of orange fur around its neck. It had pointed, dog-like ears with little curved devil horns atop its head, decorated with green polka dots. Puppet had black button eyes, and an orange fluffy dinosaur tail with green spines going down its length. The entire body was a soft minky fabric with faux fur along the mane and tail. Little pleather bits made up the horns, claws and spines on the little guy, which were altogether too rounded to be dangerous. Puppet had, at one point, been attached to a set of strings that pulled him around like a real puppet, but the kids had decided that was far too cruel and had cut him free of his binds, much to their parents’ dismay. Puppet had originally been a gift from Reverie’s parents on one of their many seasonal visits. They’d said some curious thing about where the toy was from, what its origins were, and so on, but the kids didn’t find nearly as much intrigue in it as their elders did. They bonded with the odd beast regardless of its rich history and value and took it upon themselves to adopt Puppet as their newest friend and companion. Neither Rev nor Insomnia knew quite what Puppet was, so they settled for “Puppet” and called it a day.
They used to bring that toy everywhere with them. They dragged it along through their forested play area, over the creek that ran outside their boarding school home and to each and every meal and outing. Puppet was a part of the family. Puppet was the leader of their imaginary town, the mayor or president or king depending on the day, who always came to the rescue when he was needed most. Puppet was a powerful guardian type character, and a friend to all the people. They arranged their room into blanket forts over which Puppet could preside. They made Puppet the overseer of the playground, perched mightily atop the highest slide on the playground equipment.
Over time, Puppet became a sort of mascot for the boys. Wherever they went, so too did Puppet go. One of them was always carrying around the stuffed creature. Reverie’s parents, noticing their fondness for the stuffed toy, had smaller copies made so if they ever lost the original, they could replace him—and bigger copies for cuddling purposes at Reverie’s desperate request. Pretty soon, little Puppets were all over the boys’ boarding school rooms. They were the faithful guards of the youngsters in the boarding school—keeping them safe from any measure of scary, closet-dwelling monsters or under-bed beasties.
Even now, as a grown up, Insomnia still remembers Puppet fondly. No toy more truly emblemizes his childhood, and Puppet in all his various iterations was and still is Insomnia’s favorite childhood toy.

Chosen Prompt: "What type of weather would they prefer to never experience again?"
      Prompt Response:
God, Insomnia was sure he could feel the chill from here. He was confident, in fact, that he could. The cold was permeating through the thin pane of glass between them, the cold seeping into his bones as the snowstorm raged outside. Peering through the window gave Insomnia a vague idea of just how bad it really was out there. The snow was coming down in thick sheets so dense it was hard to see more than a few feet in front of oneself. It wasn’t the cute, romantic sort of snowfall that one might expect from an early winter day like this one. It was a full-blown risk of being snowed-in to whatever building one was currently inside, and just thinking about that reality made Insomnia’s skin feel like it was freezing. He shuddered, slinking away from the glass pane and onto the warm, living room sofa. He bundled up in the navy Sherpa blanket there and buried himself in it up to his nose, so only his eyes were poking out over the top to carefully watch the raging storm blustering just outside the confines of the cozy living room space.

He hated this kind of weather. Absolutely hated it. Would never not hate it. He didn’t have any particularly good reason, really. At least, he didn’t think he did. He just despised the weather and the cold, hated the frost bite and the bitter chill. It was uncomfortable, and the prospect of being locked in by an avalanche of snow was enough to make Insomnia’s head hurt from the stress. It wasn’t like he’d ever been outside during one of those awful snowstorms. Heaven forbids, if he had he was sure he’d hate this weather even more! But just worrying about the potential risks involved was enough, no—more than enough. When he was a kid, he’d never gotten frost bite, never had to walk during a snowy day. Instead, he lay awake at night after nightmares of being stuck out there in that awful cold with no coat, no boots, no blanket and no hope of getting to somewhere warm and toasty. As someone who had always loathed the cold—it only made sense that Insomnia harbored a deep fear of being stuck in a winter storm, and a resentment for the season itself for bringing on such a risk to his safety.

Most people found the blustery winter weather calming. They enjoyed the snowfall, taking solace in its almost pristine, almost refreshing newness. But Insomnia was definitely not among these people. He could never and would never understand what people loved so much about the snow, because he just didn’t care for it one bit. What did people even see in snow, anyway? It was cold, wet and often turned into uncomfortable slush that remained on the sidewalks far after its welcome expired. Also, when it wasn’t slush, it was ice! And ice was even more unpleasant and dangerous. People could slip, fall and hurt themselves. So, what was all the fuss about with winter, anyway? In Insomnia’s mind, it just seemed like the risk wasn’t worth the reward of the nice, scenic white landscapes… In his opinion, he’d much rather never experience snow again.

Chosen Prompt: "What is their favorite scent?"
      Prompt Response:
The only good thing about the miserable and ungodly annoying season of winter was the candles. That’s what Insomnia thought to himself, in any case, as he milled about the bustling city square and eyed the candle store from across the street. It looked nice… homey and inviting in the way that winter décor often was, but that wasn’t what drew Insomnia in. No, he didn’t particularly care for any fake white snow or fake icicles. He could go without the pine needles, the ornaments and the candy canes. What caught his eye were the red, green and silver candle containers which undoubtedly contained the most lovely of holiday scents. Carefully, Insomnia wove his way through the crowd, sliding through the thin gaps of tightly packed pedestrians. It was, after all, the perfect season for capitalism, so it wasn’t at all surprising that it was as wall-to-wall packed as it was in there. Regardless, Insomnia did not let this keep him from the winter candle display across the way.

When he entered, he was immediately hit with the smell of warm vanilla and cinnamon. He took a minute to bask in this before wiggling his way further inside, where the store was less congested with window shoppers and mingling parties. He found himself quickly in the heart of the store, where he could finally enjoy the candles in peace. He picked up each of the various candles, first red, then green, then silver and finally gold, to take a whiff of the holiday aromas. Cinnamon apple spice, pine needles and vanilla, winter wonderland and frankincense and mur… The festive holiday scents were the single good part about the holiday, and yet they weren’t his favorite ones. It was a sort of bitter irony that his most favorite fragrance was one only available during his least favorite season, but he liked the fragrance enough to not mind the irony.

He found the white three-wick candle. Carefully removing the elegant silver lid, he held it up to his noise and took a deep breath. It was coconut snowball, or at least that’s what the label said, and he had no idea what a “coconut snowball” was supposed to smell like, anyway… Regardless, he quite liked it. The smell was a little more subdued of a coconut fragrance than he was used to, mixed with subtle notes of vanilla and whatever smell “winter wonderland” was. He noticed they were similar, though. Every year when Christmas rolled around, Insomnia would find every coconut snowball candle he could to stock up on them for the year. His house always smelled like it all year round and he was pretty confident it wasn’t a strictly winter fragrance, but one that could be enjoyed all year round! He also had a habit of picking up the fragrance mists, the hand lotions… pretty much anything that contained the coconut snowball fragrance as he knew it. He couldn’t particularly tell why he liked it so much, other than that he cared for the smell of coconuts but not the artificial, almost chemical-y intensity that most coconut fragrances had, but the fact still remains that this is his favorite scent.

Chosen Prompt: "What is their favorite sound?"
      Prompt Response:
Insomnia leaned into the window as this storm came down, exhaling a soft sigh from the comfort of his lightweight quilt. Now this was a storm he could get behind. As rain gently pattered on the glass pane and the roof, and the rhythmic sound of rainfall graced his ears, Insomnia felt at peace with the world. While winter storms were, in his honest opinion, “literally the worst”, he found a lot of comfort in rainstorms, so long as there wasn’t any aggressive lightning to take him out of his relaxed state. He nestled into his comfortable chair by the window to listen to his favorite sound, feeling altogether quite serene.

Chosen Prompt: What is their greatest fear?
Prompt Response:
Code: Select all
Astreus's greatest fear is... very complicated. When they were brought to life, they were tasked with created the galaxies, the stars, the planets. They were, essentially, in charge of keeping the light. When there was light, then that meant that Astreus had done their job, and had done it well. If it were dark, however, it had meant Astreus had failed. And failure was not an option. They were terrified to see stars collapse and explode, see planets crumble due to instability, and darkness swallow their vision. Now, Astreus has mastered their craft, and can successfully create planets and stars with ease, but the ever-looming threat of failure is always in the back of their mind. To put it simply, however... Astreus's greatest fear is the dark.

Astreus is very, very lenient when it comes to second chances, and more than likely will give them in a heart beat. As long as it wasn't anything with lasting damage and the person apologizing was sincere about it, then they are willing to give it a chance. If it doesn't have to do with them, however, and the person asking for forgiveness has hurt their friends (physically, emotionally, mentally) on purpose, then, Astreus will not give a second chance and will, instead, politely request that the person leave. They are very protective when it comes to their friends and will not hesitate to put someone in their place for one of them.

Chosen Prompt: What is their favorite meal to prepare?
Prompt Response:
Code: Select all
Astreus doesn't really have time to sit and make something to eat--in fact, they don't even really need to eat in the first place--but if they had the time to do so, they really like preparing this one dish their friend Cecily calls "candied orange peel." They like it a lot but it takes multiple days to make, and they can only stay in one place or on one planet for a couple of days at a time, so waiting for the peels would take up most of their time! (But don't tell them that they can have them drying while they're doing other things, they have no idea and would get really embarrassed. Cecily just gifts them candied orange peels when they can visit!)

Chosen Prompt: Stairs, escalator, or elevator?
Prompt Response:
Code: Select all
Stairs and escalators aren't really that big of a deal to Astreus. Going up stairs is just... going up stairs, moving one's legs in a repetitive motion until you get to the top. They can tell how escalators work, they're just a belt on some gears, so they aren't too impressed by them. But elevators? Astreus is totally mystified by them! They don't understand how they can press a button, have a box magically appear, get into said box, press another button, and magically appear on another floor! They are amazed by the mystery of it and always pick the elevator instead of the stairs or escalator whenever they can. They're not... too well-versed in technology despite being as old as the galaxy.

Prompt Response:

Astreus is as old as the known universe and has a vast knowledge of everything there is to know... which leads to them having trouble adapting to new sayings, technology, and more. They have a lot of trouble understanding social norms and jokes, and this tends to land them in trouble sometimes, especially with people that they don't know or aren't very acquainted with. They don't know when people are being sarcastic or serious, and they get overwhelmed with it every once in a while, so whenever someone takes the time to actually listen to them and help them instead of laugh in their face, then it really makes them feel loved and warm inside.
