It started with Hades hearing rumors. Rumors about a big mansion that nobody's been in, and it's basically tuned everything else about it out. Mansions are bought with money. A lot of it. And whatever is in that mansion, Hades wants it.
Hades knows it's greedy, it's always been and probably always will be. Anything that looks like it will be of value, it'll get it's paws on it the second it can.
It heads out late at night, because it knows the town will be silent, and it can slip away without questioning. It's freezing and pitch black, but it leaves anyways, in a black coat and a lantern. Hades is determined, as always. It knows what it wants, and nothing will stop it from doing so...
Wait, is that crying?
Hades snaps his head towards the distressed noise, and its ears twitch in confusion. He thought the only other kalons around would be in the mansion, not outside.
Whatever it is, it shouldn't be important, because Hades is busy, and nothing gets in the way of business.
... Is what it's trying to tell itself. The sobbing doesn't sound like it could be older than a young teen, and it's constant.
For once, Hades feels empathy, and it scares him.
It paces around, thinking. It's gotta be quick, who knows what happens if it's caught sticking around for too long, why did this happen to him of all people? Why couldn't he just go in and out?
Gods, who cares about stealing anymore.
Hades rushes past the front of the mansion, listening for the occasional cries. It has to be at the back of the mansion, but where does it go from there? What even happened to the poor thing for it to be crying as loud as it was? Hades reaches the back, panting from how quick it rushed over. It's looking around frantically because it doesn't have time for this, but it's doing it anyways.
Hades never liked kits. Hades is big, and scary, and never ever got along with kits. But who would leave a little one that sounds so scared? There's a loud yelp, and Hades glances towards it, but doesn't see anything.
Not until it spots this helpless kit, goop dribbling out of it's paws and mouth. It looks cold, and very disconnected from the world.
Hades has never felt more upset for something. Nor has he ever felt bigger, actually. Maybe it's because he's never been around many kits. Gently, it picks up the little one, and the child instantly clings to its fur and hides in it. Hades attempts to let out a calm purr, but he's too confused and frustrated to think. He gurgles up and spits some of his own goop onto the floor, wiping its mouth and moving further from the mansion with the kit as his mind races.
Did it seriously just pick up a kit? What is it supposed to do with this... thing? It's gotta have parents, but it looked so alone, nobody else was around. Hades is not good with kids, it's late, it's getting cold, and it need to get home and then maybe it'll think about it more.
Hades remains quiet the whole time, listening to the kit's shaky breaths turn into stable ones. By the time it's back in town, it decides maybe now is a good time to start heading back quicker. Its suddenly self aware of how dark and cold it really is, and even if the kit seems calmer, Hades would rather not risk anything else bad happening. It shuffles into it's small home, placing the unnamed kit down on a stool. Hades grabs a red blanket and drapes it over the kit. And Hades realizes he should probably ask their name. How rude..
"Kid, you've got a name, yeah?" There's silence for a moment, and Hades realizes how strange its voice sounds to itself. Hades wonders how it sounds to others. He's never been so self aware of everything he's doing. "Tricky." The boy says, mumbled and quietly.
Hades assumes that Tricky isn't up for a chat right now, and that's alright. But it'll still try, if anything.
That's... a parent thing, isn't it? Caring so much for your kid? Hades assumes that it is, and he's also assumed that becoming a parent is confirmed thing now.
It doesn't think much about that anymore. The kid looks starved, so Hades checks his cabinets for any kinds of treats.
He finds some ramen and decides that it'll suffice.
"...You hungry?"
Tricky seems to perk up instantly, looking at the adult Kalon with big eyes, expectant. "Alright, alright, calm down," Hades exclaims with a chuckle, motioning for Tricky to come over to him.
The kit slides off of the stool and bounces towards Hades, still looking up with those big eyes. Hades decides to make two cups for now, one for itself and one for his... guest? Not really. It's more like his son, but he's too embarrassed by the idea of being a parent to get used to that word yet. He'll distance from that for now.
While preparing the ramen, it talks, softly. "You can stay here as long as you'd like, alright Tricks? I'll be here to give you food and shelter, so make yourself at home. But I've got work, so you'll hear me doin' that outside for awhile." Tricky gives a little smile at the nickname, nodding.
"I knew a kid named Tricky, actually." Hades whispers to himself, taking the cups out of the microwave. "...Not really, never met 'em, just new their father. Cute guy," This is mumbled under its breath, because it's decided not to begin gushing about its boyfriend in front of a kid.
"Wha'd you sayy..?" Tricky sleepily asks, closing and opening his paws in a grabbing motion once Hades finishes the ramen. "Nothing," Hades chirps. "Nothing important at least. Once we're done, you're off to bed, little man." Hades watches Tricky scarf down the noodles, and it wonder when the last time the kit ate was. "Mhmm! I've gotcha Mister..." Tricky trails off. Hades realizes he never said his name.
"Hades. Call me Hades."
"Sure thing Mister Hades!"
Maybe this isn't so bad.
Cerise did not necessarily have a bad childhood. He has a loving mother and father who try their very best to support their child wherever they can but...well. It is still hard for them sometimes to remember that they have a son now. Cerise cannot really blame them though, he was definitely a rowdy and outspoken child! Quite the handful actually.
They still butt heads with one another whenever his parents slip up on deadnaming him or slipping on pronouns here and there. But they’ve made it work somehow over the years. It became extremely clear that Cerise was not simply going to stay the prim pretty “girl” that his mother so desperately wanted. It wasn’t like he was completely turned off from feminine things! Not at all! In fact, he still loves all of the pretty dresses and makeup his mother gifts to him. That didn’t change at all and maybe that’s why his parents had such a hard time with raising him. They constantly had the “hope” that it would all turn out to be a phase! Ha! No such luck. Instead of a daughter, they now have a very flamboyant and outspoken trans son. That’s great in Cerise’s opinion if he does say so himself.
Now raising such an outspoken child is no small feat. But Cerise prides himself on this fact. How else would his mother or father have known that he did not like certain foods or certain types of clothing? Or that he would much rather be called boy over girl? It definitely was rough trying to make friends growing up but he somehow managed. He tried to never become discouraged by other's close-mindedness. He found those like him or those that accepted others without question or harsh judgment. Cerise always found it easy to talk to others and make others feel as welcome as he wanted to be. It’s one reason why he heavily got into baking and gardening! What better way to make friends than to make said new friends some tasty treats? Cerise always had a knack for picking up new tasks quickly, much to his parents' delight!
Of course, not all of his family tries as hard or is as accepting as his dear mother and father. There are a few cousins, uncles, and aunts that blatantly ignore his boundaries and wishes. He had to learn at a very young age to defend himself if he wanted to be heard at all. To be louder than those that wanted to squash his true self down. It’s why he advocates so hard for others, so they can grow up in a more welcoming world than he did. Schooling was surprisingly a breeze! Very few bullies to deal with and only the occasional problem with teachers. All in all, Cerise’s best years were spent in the walls of his schools but especially in college. College has a special place in this kalon’s heart because college was where he was truly able to shine and blossom. Everywhere he looked he saw smiling faces and acceptance of whoever you wanted to be! Of course, he found himself tucked away with the more “strange” crowd but that’s honestly where he usually gravitated the most. He felt drawn to the outcasts because he knew first-hand how growing up “different” had felt. If he was able to help or change a single person’s life then that is what he wanted to do! He would take the time to get to know and learn about as many people as possible while he was in college. His small friend group suddenly exploded outwards! Cerise had now found himself as one of the “popular” kids. Always willing to lend a helpful paw or ear to those that desperately needed it.
Going home for the holidays were always a mixed bag of feelings, lots of sadness for having to leave behind the many friends he had made but also elation at getting to go home to his mother and father. He always had so many stories and so much to say to them as soon as he padded into the house, bags flung to the ground as he excitedly hopped up and down just gabbing away to his smiling parents. He could just let the stress of school melt away as his mom pulled him in for a tight hug, always near tears when he heard her say “It’s so good to see you happy, son. We are so proud of you.”
Did he have a perfect upbringing and childhood? Of course not. But that does not mean he suffered as so many others have. His parents tried their very best and continue to do their best. Which is something Cerise never forgets about for one moment. It is something he carries with him every time he comes across someone that wants to bring him down to their level. He holds onto the love he has received over the years as a small child and throughout his adult life. He takes the support he has received from his mother, father, and all of the many friendships he has made to make the world a better place. Even for the briefest moment. Cerise would not change the way he was raised or how he came out for anything or anyone in the world. He strives to take the lessons that his mother and father taught him and to apply to every situation. He makes sure to give his parents the same amount of love and patience they gave him while raising him whenever the need arises. Thankfully the years are making everything easier for them all. Less fighting, less slipping up on terms and his name. What more could he ask for?
Cerise came into this life full of bright ideas and even brighter smiles. Staying true to himself is what he has always done and will continue to do so. With the help of his loving and caring support network, he knows that anything and everything is possible and he hopes to spread that positivity.
Magic does indeed exist in the world Cerise resides in! Almost everyone can control it to some degree. With proper schooling, one can even master it. Most of the time the magic is tied to whatever hobbies or talents the individual heavily relates to and enjoys. Even the youngest babes can manipulate the magic of their world, usually just to knock over some objects to get their parents’ attention.
For Cerise himself, he can call forth fairly strong Earth magic and a bit of Fire magic as well. Which come in very handy when he’s slaving away in the kitchen or when his paws are buried in his gardens. He makes sure to practice his magic daily lest it begin to fade and he lose all connection to it. Even though technology has come very far, many of his kind still rely heavily on the magic they were born with. Magic here is almost limitless if you actually apply yourself and try to expand your knowledge. Even the darkest magic has its place in the world because not all things dark are necessarily bad things.
That is not to say there are no limits to their worlds’ magic. If you ignore your magic and do not actively use even a small fraction of it, it will begin to fade away with time and neglect until you are left with either very weak or little magic. Many of the very old either do not have much magic to speak of or they have been dedicating themselves to the craft since they were young and still have very much a strong hold over the power. Not many care to do this though since the slow rise of technology seems to be a better alternative for many.
Cerise takes as many magical lessons as he is able to because he sees magic as a very useful element in many situations. Why stop at just having one or two tricks up your sleeves when you can have a whole arsenal of magical abilities that could be of use down the road? Some magical abilities come easier to others than most. For example, Cerise is currently struggling with the more watery types of magic though that does not seem to deter him any. He knows that with practice he will be able to master whatever magic he may want in the future.
On the rare occasion though, some may be born without the ability to wield any magic whatsoever. Some are lucky enough that with very rigorous training and schooling, they eventually are able to use magic as any other in their world. But for others, they are not so lucky. But it seems that many of the ones that cannot do any type of magic are typically not upset with this result and simply turn more towards technology. All in all, almost everyone and everything seems to hold some type of magic within them. All it takes is a little faith in yourself, some dedication, and schooling to call forth the magic within you.
