Prompt Response:
“Anova to Calci, do you read me?” Anova was not supposed to call into the station unless it was for the twice weekly check-ins, which were not due until tomorrow.
“We read you, Anova. What’s happened?” The staticky voice sounded through the ship speakers.
Anova stared directly at the screen in front of him while he replied, careful to get the information right. What he saw just seemed so bizarre. “The children’s ship has gone down. It’s headed for the planet called earth, one still very primitive in space technology. It looks like they had a malfunction, I cannot reach them on comms.”
“Anova, your mission is to record data on those kits and rely the info back to us. You have to follow them.” The static spoke urgently.
Anova nodded, knowing an answer was not needed. He didn’t need reminding of the mission, he only needed to let them know. Following the children was the only answer.

“Anova to Calci, do you read me?” His voice was tired and his body was slumped over the talk button.
… silence.
“Of course not.” He whispered. “Dang earth atmosphere somehow completely filters out the signal, plus who knows how much damage the systems have taken…”
Anova sat down in one of the chairs mounted in the middle of the floor. He was tired, it was always a long, nearly 18 hour hike to the ship now that he knew where it was relative to the ski lodge. And always to get the same result. He made this journey at least once a week, sometimes more depending on how he was feeling.
The children didn’t really need him, they were no longer living the lives of kits from his planet, Calci. They were… not like earth kits fully but they did not learn to suppress emotions, nor do they have a strong sense of ambition to continue their mission. All they really needed now was Vermouth, as hard as Anova had tried to be an example of Calcilian adulthood, they just rejected the lifestyle. Instead, Anova’s mission turned to relaying information on what happened to Vermouth. The medical kit that was to inject oneself with healthy DNA to help rebuild structures of the body… had literally turned him into a Calcilian, albeit one with total earthly upbringing and mind.
Anova was not sure if he would ever reach through to his home planet. Or even if they were still listening. He assumed that any messages he sent would be filed instead of being on the main mission speakers, so it would take a little for them to reach him. It would not be logical to wait on him with baited breath when they could send out another fleet. This meant he would spend the night here and wait for a reply before leaving back for the lodge in the morning. He was tired, but he will always be dedicated to his mission. Even his mission to monitor the children, which on earth seemed to mean taking care of them. And now that Vermouth was an experiment, he knew his duty expanded out to him too.
