Pup number: one
Personality: I'd like this pup to represent the 8-week old Golden Retriever I got yesterday! Hailey is an absolute sugar cube. She loves the whole world, especially her mistress and the older dog she lives with and keeps company. She loves to give kisses and receive hugs and snuggle, but don't let the laid-back sweetheart aura fool you. Hailey is not smart so much as intuitive, and she knows what I want her to do almost before I do. By the time I give her a command, she's usually already halfway-done! She's also extremely athletic. I got her to be an agility dog one day, and it looks like that day is going to be sooner rather than later. But as far as the sport goes? It's not her brains OR her brawn that'll make her stand out in her field. It's her pure trainability, and how hard she wants to make me happy.
Story: The day I first met the puppies in Hailey's litter I had no idea which one I was going to pick. The one with the bright-green collar was a genius, the smartest dog I had ever met. The lightest one was a screwball comedian. And the one with the dark-green collar was absolutely and unarguably adorable. I pondered, and ended up doing what any reasonable dog owner would: let the pups decide. The smart one came over first, and nearly bit off the braid my hair was in that day. The comedian was too ridiculously independent to come over at all. But that last, sweet puppy? She brought her toy bone over and laid it in my lap, asking to play. When I picked it up she got incredibly excited, and put her paws on my chest. I scooped her up and cuddled her against my face, then went over to the lady who bred the dogs to tell her something very important: I had found my puppy. I had found my Hailey.
