Naturally everyone has flaws to go along with their virtues.
In Alana's case most of these coincide with her virtues in some
way, since nearly everyone's blind spots tend to come from their
positive qualities that unfortunately cause blindness in other
areas.
-Stubborn-
1. having or showing dogged determination not to change
one's attitude or position on something, esp. in spite of good
arguments or reasons to do so.
An unfortunate side effect of Alana's determination, being quite
stubborn happens to be a major flaw of hers. She tends to
pursue various objectives even if they become obsolete or
foolish. No amount of deterrent from others or chastising will
take her off of her determined course of action. This has led
to many difficult situations for her, and unfortunately it
remains a major flaw that she herself refuses to acknowledge.
-Gullible-
1. easily persuaded to believe something; credulous.
Alana's intense empathy makes her an excellent friend to be sure,
however it also makes her something else: a target. Other Pip's,
often those with shadier backgrounds, tend to take advantage of
Alana's willing heart and empathy, employing all sorts of sob
stories or unfortunate mishaps in order to get something from
her. Alana has been cheated out of food, shelter, time, and
even been injured on occasion from being gullible enough to
believe just about anything remotely plausible someone tells her.
-Reactive-
1. done in response to a problem or situation: reacting
to problems when they occur instead of doing something to
prevent them
Another one of Alana's unfortunate flaws is the fact that she
tends to be poor at perceiving oncoming problems or situations,
and rather than carefully thinking through and planning some
sort of action plan to resolve them, or keep them from happening
in the future, Alana tends to jump in with all four paws immediately,
doing whatever first occurs to her instead of making a viable plan.
Though it may not seem like a particularly dangerous flaw, it does
do damage to her if threatened by any sort of conflict, which she
reacts to at that point and then forgets about, rather than trying
to anticipate such events and prevent them before they occur.

and without any thought to potential consequences. This has gotten
her into a lot of trouble in the past, and her cleverness has likely
been the only thing that's gotten her through them.

Naturally this describes Alana beautifully. As one of her virtues cleverness plays a large part in her survival. Relying on the ability to swiftly pick up on things as well as apply them to her own life, Alana manages to outwit the most cunning predators as well as secure a fairly luxurious life for herself. Alana also uses her cleverness to assess the needs of others and act accordingly, whether facing friend or foe it makes a handy tool.

1. having made a firm decision and being resolved not to change it.
Though this touches on her trait of stubbornness, determination remains a virtue for Alana for a variety of reasons. When not blown out of proportion, where it tends to become stubbornness if not held in check, her determination keeps Alana from backing down from challenging situations, as well as sticking to her prescribed course of action, even when faced with challenges. Determined in the face of adversity, Alana will refuse to give up until she has found a solution and completed her task.

When Alana commits herself to friendship, an ideal, or a particular king or queen, you can trust that she will never betray them or treat them poorly. One of the most praise-worthy virtues that Alana holds to is her loyalty, which remains unshakeable and constant. She will go to bat for her friends when needed, and will come through for them to the best of her abilities no matter what. If accusations are thrown their way she gives them the benefit of the doubt and stands up for them. She isn't entirely naive though, if one of her friends committed some horrible atrocity she would not protect them from punishment, but she would likely still remain a source of friendship to them, even if they were forever considered a pariah after some colossal event.

meaning of charm;
"Mama what's that??!?" Alana squeaked uncertainly, her eyes staring widely at the dark leather band being carried towards her in the mouth of the King of their Pipdom. She was of course too young to understand how the hierarchy worked, to know that at this time, the collaring day, she would be given a leather band that would stay with her all her life. All Alana knew was that a big scary Pip with three charms adorning his collar, a sign of his influence and power which terrified her, was coming towards her with a black collar in his teeth.
"Shhh Alana love, it's alright, you're to receive your collar today!" Her mother whispered, infusing her tone with excitement in the hopes of calming Alana's fraying nerves. Thankfully it worked and the ruffled fur on the ruff of Alana's neck slowly settled down, though she wasn't quite able to repress the faint shaking of her limbs. Squeezing her eyes shut Alana waited tensely for what felt like hours until finally she felt something settle around her neck, peeking open her eyes she took in the expression of the faintly amused King who dipped his head towards her.
"Now, little one, you bear a collar. All you must do to prove yourself worthy of joining the Pipdom is to find a charm that reflects you and your values somehow. Once you find one...you may join us once and for all." Then with a slight smile the venerable King nodded to her once more before turning to disappear into the crowd of gathered Pips whom had come to see the collaring.
Standing there with her bare leather collar, Alana felt a tingle of pride shoot through her...she would become the greatest Pip the Pipdom had ever seen! But first....first she needed to find her charm.

"C'mon Alana!!! Let's go play for a bit!" A slightly younger and smaller female Pip patted the ground with her paws and stared up at Alana with unbridled excitement. Her own eyes lighting up gradually with amusement at the younger Pip's excitement, and with an exaggerated sigh she rolled her eyes and got to her feet.
"Well, I suppose we can play...just this once." Alana teased with a laugh, bouncing after the other Pip, grinning wider when her friend let out a squeak and scampered away.
The two chased each other for a while through the softly sunlit underbrush of the forest before Alana began to tire. Letting out a whoosh of breath she slowed her pace, letting her friend outpace her as she tried to catch her breath. Yet just when Alana thought that perhaps she would stop and wait for the younger Pip to find her again, a shriek could be heard coming from further ahead.
Immediately Alana's hackles rose, and with a quick yip of alarm she bolted towards the sound, fear rising in her heart as she tried to anticipate what terror she would face when she got to her friends side. As she tore through the undergrowth, Alana came suddenly upon a terrifying scene, a large rottweiler dog was snarling down at her friend, a menacing and violent expression in his face.
Not stopping to think, Alana sprang forward, noting the bloody scratches on her friend only briefly, as she sailed through the air towards the neck of the frightening rottweiler. Snarling and scratching, attacking with all her might, Alana found her teeth locked around a portion of the dogs collar that held a shiny pendant. Tightening her grip Alana growled and shook back in forth, hearing the dogs faint choking sounds with relief.
Suddenly there was a 'snap' and the piece of the collar she had latched her teeth onto fell away, the dog racing off immediately in search of easier prey. Slightly dazed Alana let the piece of leather fall out of her mouth onto the ground, and it was only when her friend weakly spoke that she refocused on it.
"A-Alana....t-the piece of the collar you bit off! L-look! There's a ch-charm attached!" Sure enough a small golden charm, shaped to look like a leaf, was now lying on the ground where it had fallen from it's torn hole on the collar. "I think it was meant for you Alana." Her friend whispered, padding forward to shakily nudge the charm closer to Alana's paws. "To signify your loyalty in the face of danger and your bravery." She whispered, adding with a giggle, "Also maybe your impulsiveness."
Shooting the younger Pip a slightly dazed but rueful expression, Alana was quiet for a long moment and then smiled happily, picking the charm up with her teeth, and with some help from her friend she managed to attach it to the leather collar around her own neck.
Finally, after several years of searching and wondering if she'd ever find a charm and truly be part of the Pipdom....it seemed that one had ended up finding her.
