Good Luck

It's an entry for a JBD. I really hate how it turned out - the silhouette is supposed to be of the JBD but it looks like a blob. D:
The story's not my best either. I won't be surprised if I don't even come close to winning. Sorry. :-/

_____________

Stalking. Carefully, quietly, stalking the prey. One false leap, too early, and the grasshopper flies out of sight.
"Oh well," A tan dragon, covered in fur, pokes her head out of the tall grass. She had caught nothing that day, and her stomach was complaining. The sun was just beginning to slide towards the horizon. If she wanted any sort of food, she'd have to move quickly.
The dragon pushed through the grass and brush, racing over the earth. Her destination came in the form of a market outside of a small town. Silently and swiftly, she slipped past the busy vendors, each of them selling something different to their fellow humans. One vendor, his cart situated at the back of the market, sold pastries and baked goods. This man, which called the dragon 'Cookie Dough,' was kind. In fact, he was the only human in the market who ever showed the dragon kindness. The others shooed her away, complaining she'd damage their goods. The gentle, furry dragon would never do such a thing, but the humans did not know that. She could not tell them.
She slunk behind a foul-smelling cart and tugged at the baker's pant leg. He turned around, a treat in hand. The cookie he held was a bit old, but it made the dragon's mouth water. She heard pawsteps behind her and recognized the three-footed rhythm of her friend's feet. The fox that limped behind her, called Cheska, had been born without the proper number of legs.
"Hey, Kie!" Cheska grinned. This was the name she'd given to the dragon, going off of what the baker called her. "Ooh, is that a cookie?" Cheska jumped up on the baker's leg, trying to sniff at the goodie. "It is! You're lucky, Kie. He never gives me any of these!"
The baker pushed Cheska down gently and offered the cookie to the dragon. Kie sniffed at it and then took it gingerly in her lips. She chewed slowly, savoring the sweet taste.
"You know what I heard?" Cheska munched on a stale loaf of bread. "I heard the baker's going to have some cupcakes tomorrow!"
Kie did not respond. She looked down at the cookie, which had been chewed into a half circle.
"What's wrong?" Cheska paused from her meal. "You will come, won't you?"
Kie shook her head, eyes at the ground. She couldn't bare to see the look that was about to streak across Cheska's face. "I've chosen tonight to leave."
Cheska gave a dry cough. Her eyes widened, and she refused to accept what she'd heard. "You won't!"
"I will. I can't keep stealing things from him." Kie smiled. "Besides, it'll be fun for me."
"Yeah, for you!" Cheska was not happy. "I can't believe you really are going on this crazy journey. No human will ever want you!" She licked up a crumb of bread. "No offense, but you're a freak."
"I'm sure there's someone out there who will care for me, and love me." Kie's eyes glinted wistfully.
"You're sure of that, and I'm a fat duck." Cheska snorted.
"Come on. I talked to you about this. I'm just going to go wherever my heart takes me."
"Where's that?"
"I don't know. What I do know, though, is that everything will turn out well."
"You can't be serious."
"I am, Cheska." She flashed her fox friend her signature smile. "I've got to get going, before dark."
Cheska sighed, speechless. She chewed the hard bread silently for a few moments. "Then I guess this is goodbye."
Kie nodded. She felt sadness tug at her heart strings. She couldn't let dark feelings stop her from finding her destiny, so she grinned the bad thoughts away. "You're a great friend, Cheska. I'm glad to have met you." She pushed herself to her feet. The sun was sinking underneath the earth.
"Thanks, Kie." Cheska sighed again. "I don't know what to say..." She watched her single front paw. "Goodbye, ol' friend."
Kie smiled. "There's someone who will love you, too, Cheska. You could come with me if you want to."
Cheska shook her head. "I'm not cut out for adventure. I'll just stay here."
Kie nodded. "Well, then... Bye," She turned away from the fox and the market, the cookie in her jaws.
Cheska watched as the dragon shrunk, now a black silhouette in the yellow sun. She quietly muttered one last wish for her friend.
"Good luck,"
