{{ I like the idea of the Ra'zac returning...it would be a good front for something else (which we don't necessarily have to think of right away), and an excuse to prolong the plot. I don't really like role-plays that advance way too fast, and leave the characters struggling to keep up. }}

Ren Teod//Gil'ead//being ornery

It's not working, Ren said, exchanging glances with Ailla. And what did I do to deserve that glare?
You were a rude, chauvinistic pig who expected a majestic woman like the director of the academy to just fall at your any command, Ailla snorted, her ruby eyes shining in the early light. If you are really interested in gaining troops, you will be kinder. If you're here for something else...
You know why I'm here! Nothing of the sort even occurred to me. And I wasn't being rude, just forward.
I am within your thoughts, remember?
Ren turned away from Ailla, annoyed. Though he loved his dragon, they definitely got on each others nerves from time to time. "It can't be easy to advance training when you only have one instructor. You may be a good teacher, but no one can instruct in magic, flight, and battle technique all at once at a reasonable pace, not unless you're working one on one. I am here to offer my services as temporary defensive strategy instructor to your older students, just for a little while. You'd be amazed at how quickly their education would advance." Ren had loved any sort of physical education while he was in school, and felt that a good workout always helped him stay focused on more important things.

Sarene sat on the mossy ground, quietly watching her reflection in the moving river. The water flowed lazily by, reminding Sarene of a dragon in flight. Everything about being a rider fascinated her. She loved the sheer idea of just flying through the air and being the most powerful thing in a hundred mile radius. It was the freedom that had lured her into a life of solitude, but now she was beginning to regret leaving her friends and family. She felt like she had this great potential, but no purpose. A rebel without a cause. This is why I believe you would fare well in Gil'ead, Cairyn said, his large gold eyes kind.
But what is there for me in Gil'ead? Sarene asked, burying her head in her hands. Who would take a rider who just abandoned everything the organization stands for?
'Ene, you are not the first solitary rider, and you definitely won't be the last. You--wait, I hear something. Cairyn lifted his head off of the ground, his metallic scales glinting in the cool sun.
Sarene could here it too, if only vaguely. A small splash. The shifting of feet against a layer of leaves. The brush of the wind past a form on the opposite bank. Sarene concentrated. Across the river, she could see what looked like an elf. He was sitting relaxedly on the other side of the bank, lazily fishing in the calm water. Sarene could also sense another life, this one much larger. A dragon?
It seems that way, 'Ene. Would you like to approach? Cairyn stood up, ready for her to mount.
Why not? It's a new start. I should make new contacts. Sarene and Cairyn flew over to the solitary elf and his dragon, landing softly on the bank beside them. "Hello," Sarene said, looking at the elf. She had never been great with introductions.

[size=85]Maela ducked back into the treeline, her shy nature rising to the forefront now that strangers were near. Ladrengilon, however, continued to fish. "Hold thine tongue before thou doth scare away the fish. If thou must disturb my solitude so suddenly, at least do me this favor. Patience and silence, these are required for the art of fishing." Ladrengilon was not attempting to rude, and so his voice did not carry such intent. It was calm, full of wisdom belonging to one who had lived long in this world. Send them away already, Ladrengilon. We do not need strangers disturbing our peace and quiet, even if they are Rider and dragon. Maela, however, had a different opinion. The female was a Rider, and could likely be here to take away the solitude she and Maela held so dearly.

Sarene//the spine//observing Ladrengilon

Sarene blinked at the elf's strange speech patterns, intrigued. Quietly obeying his request, she sat down on the mossy ground, folding her hands neatly across her lap. Cairyn did the same, settling down and resting his metallic wings against his great body.
This one's quiet strange, he remarked vaguely, searching for the other rider's dragon. He could, of course, sense her presence, but something about the feeling was off, almost as if the dragon didn't want to meet either of them. Quite strange, Cairyn repeated.
He may be strange, but he's not asking me to be anything I'm not. He's content to sit in peace. In company, but in peace, Sarene said, watching the other elf. Her own silvery blonde hair blew softly against her cheeks as she watched the placid water for signs of movement. Closing her eyes, Sarene let the sun soak into her skin. She had kind of hoped for this elf to insinuate conversation, or at least try to make friends, but she was also content at the silence he provided. In this way, she wouldn't be asked questions, or be forced to come up with a topic of conversation.
Cairyn grunted in laughter. All of this talk about silence and contentment is making me think that you didn't want to come over here in the first place. Make up your mind, 'Ene. Either you are a part of society, or you wander forever, like this one. He flicked his tail at Ladrengilon, causing both of them to smile.

Ladrengilon laughed lightly, taking care to not make too much noise. He didn't need to lose any large fish and be forced to return to the river later on when he needed to gather more food. It would be in his best interests to catch what Maela would need for the next few days. Of course, he picked up on the voice of the female's dragon friend. That was the reason he had laughed in the first place. "I believe you're mistaken, friend. Maela and I are not wandering. We live in the Spine, a choice we made twenty years ago. It was after we realized that the life of a normal Rider and their dragon is not the life for us. We want solitude, peace, and silence. I am Ladrengilon, a former noble from Ellesméra. I was known to many Riders once, but those days have passed. Few remember my name, and I would prefer it stay that way. I do not need to be pulled into the affairs of the world unless it is truly necessary." Maela poked her head out at least, her serpentine neck the only other part of her body that was seen. Catch me some large fish. I can hunt the rest of my food myself, but you need to think about collecting the food you eat.

Miriel sat in a stone hallway, rubbing her hands together for warmth. Her whole city had been asked to send their children to this place and see if the dragon hatched for them. Miriel was one of the only four who went, and so far nothing had happened for them. A tall man dressed in dark clothing opened the door before her and motioned for the girl to enter. "Take as long as you want" the human sighed as he turned away and walked out of the door again. Once the door shut, Miriel slowly crept forward and peeked her head around the thick black curtain to see a pure white stone with OCD blue lines- as if it had broken- running through it as it sat on a marble podium.

COMET
He strained and struggled to escape from his shell to reach his new Rider; he'd been waiting many years and wasn't ready to faced any more! The egg grew increasingly cracked and broken until it shattered in Lilla's hands and Comet dropped to the floor.

Sardonyx Crimson & Nazaroth

It would be easier if I had a Vice-Director. She thought to herself.

He won't relent. Nazaroth said, releasing a small puff of smoke from his nostrils.

It doesn't seem like it, does it? Sardonyx was quiet for a while as she conversed with her dragon, who had become increasingly agitated with the subject. Shall we deem it a lost cause?

Yes, please.

Sardonyx seemed to deflate, a sign on her submission. "Very well. You may have no more than a week."

Sarene//in the spine//talking to Ladrengilon

"Ah, Friend, how I wish I could say the same," Sarene said, resting her head in her hands. "A solitary life just does not seem to suit me. I left Ellesméra three months ago, and I truly have been wandering ever since."
Cairyn rested his great head next to Sarene's leather moccasins, blowing a puff of steam. Wandering is not alway bad, 'Ene. Although in your case, it seems the restless are not always happy.
How can I be happy, Cairyn? I don't know what I want out of life. I don't want to be so detached forever, but I also don't want to face my family in Ellesméra. What can I do?
Sarene envied Ladrengilon for his inner peace, and his uncanny ability to shake off anything disturbing him, such as a stranger and her dragon asking menial questions. "Ladrengilon, are you happy here?" she asked, looking over to the other elf.

Ren//Gil'ead//reveling in victory

I hope you realize that the only reason you won this battle of will was because she knows she will not change in the long run, Ailla said as Ren mentally whooped. Of course, he was expressionless on the outside. The captain of the rider's cavalry had to maintain a reputation as a fierce, stoic drill master.
But, Ailla, Ren rebuked, raising his eyebrows. She agreed! That means we can get ourselves some soldiers. She had to have been exaggerating about the low number of recruits.
Perhaps, Ailla agreed, her great tail swishing in the dust. You should talk to the guards at the hatchery later today. See how many young ones have been chosen lately.
Ah, but I have a class to teach! I can't shirk the precious duty of teaching our posterior, can I?
Ailla rolled her eyes, a sight to see in one as large as the young dragon. Of course not, Captain.
You sound smug.
I'm just waiting for the moment when you realize that I'm right, and Sardonyx sends you back to the garrison empty handed.
"One week." Ren interrupted Ailla, blocking out her criticism. He could feel her annoyance, but decided not to let it bother him. "So where do I start?" He clapped his hands together, raising his eyebrows in excitement and winking at Sardonyx cheekily.
You're screwed, Ailla said, laughing at his attitude.
A man has to have fun, Ren responded, leaning on the ruby dragon.

Sardonyx Crimson & Nazaroth

This time, it was Nazaroth who responded. His deep voice carried a hint of amusement as he spoke, fanning his wings as he stood up. Well, the beginning is always a good place to start. I trust that you're not reckless enough to break anything. Sardonyx, why doesn't he go and ring the bell?

She didn't have to respond, for she had already gone and fetched the club that rang the giant silver bell that the entire village of Gil'ead could hear. "They won't come until they hear that."

Ladrengilon smiled softly, keeping his attention on the river and his pole. Was he happy to be living in the Spine? To live his life away from others, away from his duties as a noble and a Rider? No, he wasn't happy. That wasn't the right word to describe how the silver-haired male felt. "I am.....content. That alone is enough for me, and it has held me through twenty years. Am I happy? No. There are many days I find myself wishing for the life I left behind. Then I realize.....I cannot. Even if I were to leave the Spine for some time, I would eventually return. I am not happy, but I am content. That alone is enough, is it not?" Ladrengilon stood up swiftly, a heavy tug pulling at his line. With a single pull, the elven Rider brought a great fish forth from the waters, one that should provide a decent-sized meal for Maela....if she held back her hunger a little. How rude, Ladrengilon. Are you implying that I am gaining weight? Honestly, thinking such things about a lady such as myself. Ladrengilon laughed, removing the fish from the hook before healing the wounds it had suffered. Afterwards, he tossed it back into the river with a satisfied smile. "It may have been large, and more than enough to make a side dish for one of Maela's meals, but it is for that reason I am letting it go. It shall go forth and prosper, birthing many children to be fished up later. This is a lesson that you can apply to yourself, young Rider. Those who are fit to live in society should do so. Those, like myself, who find themselves misfits of society are better suited to solitude. Which person are you?"
