He wasn't wrong - most demigods couldn't exactly summon pens out of nowhere - especially if it wasn't some sort of magic pen that always stayed in their pocket or they were the child of love. Most kids of Aphrodite didn't have any pen powers. She thought about whether or not the Hecate kids could possibly generate things out of nowhere with their magic, although usually their abilities were just limited to manipulating the mist. Riley never had a need to ask them, after all they never asked her if she could fly. Which she could, but that wasn't important right now. "Fine, fine. Just get a pen, give me a signature, and we'll be all good," she replied. She snorted. Classic Orin, Riley thought to herself. He's really so predictable. I'm surprised I didn't see that one coming.
She rolled her eyes. "Have any suggestions on what I should talk to him about? Something along the lines of 'hey, how's the weather up in olympus' perhaps? It'd probably better than what we're having," Riley frowned at the snow around the mess hall. "Painful chocolate? Oh right, croissants with chocolate. Was wondering why you wanted to eat candy that would bite your tongue." She took a sip of her strawberry lemonade before seeing two campers of Apollo come swooping right at them. Hank and Lucy. She didn't really know them, simply just acknowledging their existence every once in a while when she was at camp. His dog, Izzy, did not seem to like her. And she never really was interested in Lucy although they would have conversations every once in a while.
"What?" Riley stared at him, completely surprised. He'd never spoken like that, ever. She wanted to ask him a billion questions - they would have been much better than 'what,' that was certain - but there was no time. It seemed there possibly was some history between them. At least that's what she was guessing. She remembered her conversation with Orin earlier, Some new enemies this summer, she recalled. That memory hadn't exactly relieved her. Riley didn't know why he didn't want her to do anything until she turned to face the daughter of Apollo and heard her. Suddenly she had a need to grab her purse and stab her with one of her daggers, especially when Lucy had grabbed his collar. She never was a good rule follower but for once, she decided to wait and listen to what Orin said. Well, for now. I should at least see how this goes. If she does something that extremely ticks me, she'll get a taste of my combat boots, she told herself. That didn't exactly stop her from balling up her fist though. She knew that Orin would never threaten anyone. He was a good person. He had nothing to hide. At least a moment ago, he was a little weird, sure, but Riley figured it was just nothing. Perhaps her imagination, or just his nerves being weird. She tried her best to reassure herself.
It was remarkable how fast he could switch his tone like he was some professional actor. Her brother may have said not to do anything, but she assumed that it meant she wouldn't start a fight. On the contrary, she made a mental reminder in her head to get ready for a kick in the gut if necessary. Riley still could glare at Lucy though, right? She regarded the demigod with cold and bitter blue eyes as if she was daring her to do something. Now here was the Orin she knew, joking around and rivaling Riley with his confidence. 'Whatever you think you have, Lucy, you're solely mistaken.' I was right. Definitely some history between them, she thought. Riley made every effort not to get too invested in the drama. She decided she was there to support Orin, nothing else.
