(Sorry, my little brother stole the computer.
)Jak came up to Jax, patting his hindquarters as the thick horse snorted, his lungs heaving. Jax was a warhorse, intended to fast trot for days on end, not short bursts of speed.
"Let's get you back to the stables." he whispered, rubbing the spot between the neck and the shoulder, Jax's favorite sweet spot. He watched as first Mayia, then Vethro passed him by without a word. How rude, he thought, of Vethro to take his horse and leave without even an apology. Jax would be in terrible condition tomorrow, in no condition for riding.
"Let's go." Jak took Jax's reins, and lead the horse back to the stables, keeping his eyes open for any signs of danger. They arrived, and Jak decided to wipe down the dapple gray before putting him back in the stables. Unable to locate the well in the yard, he walked around to the side of the Black Stone Tavern until he found it. Drawing the bucket full of water, he walked back to where his horse was tethered, splashing it over the large horse. It took four trips to wet Jax down properly, and since the stable workers were missing, Jak didn't even have a curry comb, so he just used his stubby fingernails and worked them in a circle over his horse. After Jak was certain Jax was properly cleaned, he started to untie him.
"I can take him, sir." A stable hand appeared out of no where, as if he was waiting for Jak to finish cleaning up the monstrously huge horse. He probably had been, reflected Jak.
"Set him in one of your outdoor pens for now, please. He just had the workout of his life." Jak fished out a small gold coin with the queen's profile stamped on it, handing it to the poor lad.
"As you wish, sir." The boy led Jax away, careful to not let the horse drip water all over his uniform. Jak walked back into the tavern, trying to locate his guild.
