Natsumi saw the shadow slide closer to Midnight, and he nonchalantly stood. She already knew he was thinking of ways to torture her, which was normal for Catchers. She was the exception. She almost shivered with the thoughts of torture, but caught herself in time. She hated to show any sort of weakness. She focused again on the shadow in front of her.
She was female, with the standard jet black hair and pale skin. She looked just like any average shadow.....
I shouldn't underestimate her though, she caught herself. She analyzed her actions and behaviors thus far. Well, she didn't notice me at first, but once I came into plain view she was careful. She hid as well as she could, thinking she had the advantage, because we acted ignorant. But once she was close enough and we fell into her trap she pounced. But, she didn't even consider that we were playing with her, and still probably thinks she has the advantage. But we still have an advantage. A few actually. We have a greater number, and we also were watching her much longer than she was watching us. She looks about our age and has an average build. So she doesn't really have anything on us... She's careful, but not perspicacious.
Suddenly, she sensed another presence, and saw Midnight's eyes flickering through the trees. He stopped, then glanced at Natsumi, setting her off.
Why can't he just trust that I can take care of it?! He didn't even know about the freaking shadow until I pointed it out to him like he's some sort of four year old! Leave the shadow to me. She thought determinedly as she glared at him.
“A fight just isn’t the same without blood. Death preferably. Yours even more preferable. But hey, perhaps you can actually defend yourself. It’d be quite the surprise, but…” Midnight spread out his hands, waiting for the Shadow to attack.
You are such an idiot! Why the hell would you do that, you overconfident jerk! Natsumi was still very heated about her fight with Aya... Even when she thought the name, she couldn't help but have thoughts of murder.
Midnight froze, the smile fading. So he did notice something then, she thought with interest. The smile returned, but Natsumi could tell it was fake. He definitely saw or sensed something.
The female shadow jumped down from the branch, landing gracefully. Natsumi watched her, but didn't flinch.
“I’m amazed that you two idiots did not notice me sooner. Who knows how long I’ve been following you?"
Natsumi watched the shadow as she tilted her head and looked up. I knew there was something there... Natsumi kept her eyes on the female, but then she heard the swishing in the trees above. Many leaves and branches fell at random, and Natsumi sidestepped to avoid them. She couldn't keep her eyes on the shadow, but she maintained a defensive position while trying to see what was going on. Her eyes flickered down to one of the branches that fell and saw a perfect slash mark through it, as if it was cut by a blade. She looked back up and saw a flicker of black among the green.
She saw more clearly as all of the foliage finally fell to the ground. There was a shadow standing there, the slight breeze caused his silky black hair to dance in the wind. He was tall compared to Midnight, and monstrous compared to Natsumi. She could only see one of his eyes, but it was a bright yellow shade, a very odd eye color.
The newcomer stood in front of Midnight, fully alert and ready to act. He pointed his sword at Midnight. He stared coldly at her companion, but was speaking to both of them. He only uttered one word, but it came out with so much authority that Natsumi actually thought about listening, which was an amazing feat within itself.
"Leave."
Natsumi could see the female bristle with anger. “Get the hell out of here.” she snapped. Clearly the female wanted to fight alone against she and Midnight.
The male only acknowledged her by raising a second sword and pointing it at the female. He had a look of irritation on his face. He didn't seem to appreciate the female's rudeness.
“You would do well to hold your tongue before I cut it out.” he said with an icy tone. Yes, clearly not in a good mood, she observed. He continued,
“I advise all of you to leave.” His tone brought images of pure hell to Natsumi's mind. She just chuckled, and relaxed slightly, keeping her daggers in her hands ready, but at her sides.
"Really? Why would we do that? And I don't think she," Natsumi gestured to the female, "would leave either."
Hm, this guy will be trouble... He seems really fast, but I'm faster, the only advantage to being small. My size is a disadvantage, and he has two longswords... so my daggers aren't a good match. He's cautious and perceptive, he didn't come out until he knew about the situation... If he can get the female to help him we are outmatched, but she doesn't seem willing...
She knew they were in trouble, especially if the female decided to cooperate. She knew all the grave possiblilities, but decided to play confidant and make him angry. If he got mad enough, he might make mistakes and we could have a chance...
She saw Midnight was practically at swordpoint, and knew his safety was the top priority, but she needed his help to get out of this. She blinked twice as a signal for him to attack in sync with her. They needed perfect teamwork to come away from this fight. She suddenly came at the male with her two daggers and attacked with lightning speed. She didn't give it her all until she had more information.
This little outing has turned life threatening in a matter of minutes. Lovely.
