{ NNNNNUUUU!! READ. IT. RIGHT. NOOOOOWWWW!!! Grrr. Hiss. GrrHiss!
Ok, I'm done. ^^ }

William was about to answer when a girl came stomping down the stairs. She seemed upset almost like the other girl had. Apparently, they weren't even important enough for the crew to care about them either. Frowning thoughtfully, William stood, placing a hand on the wall to steady himself, and looked over at the girl.
"But why? Why let us roam when we could easily jump ship?" He asked, wincing slightly as his throat protested against swallowing and talking. So far the day kept going down hill. Who knew where it would be by dinner time? William looked hesitantly at the door way of the cell before stepping through it, surprised at how much energy and courage it took. The girl looked deadly - like she wanted to slit his throat just for being there. It made him slightly mad, of all things. Did he ask to be put on this ship? No. Did he ask to be her problem? No. Did he ask to be even further away from his younger sister? No... William shook his head slightly, cursing his fate, and looked towards the other boy briefly. He doubted the girl would let them starve. The captain wouldn't allow his prisoners to be starved, would he? And what ship was he one? Why was he still alive? Those questions and more burned in William's mind but he forced them away. Given enough time and patience, he was sure he could get through it all. So he reminded himself simply of breathing. There wasn't much a prisoner could do so he might as well stick to what he knew. Which wasn't much. He'd never been on a pirate ship, much less as a prisoner, so he could only imagine how different things would be. William kept his feet firmly planted so he wouldn't sway with the ship and his terrible headache. Hopefully, a spot of food and water would help it a little more. William had a feeling his headache wouldn't go away until maybe a few days. No one had ever exactly knocked him unconscious before...

---*---

The wind tousled Rosetta's feathers, causing her to shiver slightly, but it was almost enjoyable. Even if she wanted to not think about a think her thoughts drifted towards the rade last night. Why did they keep some humans alive? The Captain still hadn't said anything about it but she figured by the end of the day he would make an annoucement. He didn't want a mutiny on his hands now did he? Not that anyone on board would but they could always threaten. That was what pirates did. Almost all talk and no bite. Except for a few rare cases like the Phantom. And Rosetta was glad for it. She wasn't ready to die. There was too much to do, too much to see. And even if she would never say it, she still hadn't fallen in love yet. Sure a crush here and there but they needed lasted. Rosetta gave her wings a little flap before resting them on the warm deck once more. She was thinking too deeply. Then again, when didn't Rosetta have a deep thought brewing in her mind? Almost never. Even her dreams were complicated that she always enjoyed trying to solve. It was something to keep her on her feet, logical thinking and always a little myth to help all the pieces fit into place. With having wings and being who she was, there wasn't a day that didn't pass where Rosetta didn't think about her mother. What she looked like, why she left, why she stayed so long, and even why she bothered with her father. She loved him and all but why did he capture an angel's hearts of all people? Though she was awfully glad he did. Rosetta quite enjoyed the ability to fly. It was like nothing almost anyone would ever experience. And it was something that she would never give up.

(( That convinced me! 8D Haha, perhaps I'll read it soon? ^^" ))

Charlotte shot the two a venomous(sp?) glare. The scowl had seemed to have been permanently attatched to her face. "Let me put it this way and perhaps you will understand. If you try to run then we will kill you. If you try to jump ship then we will kill you. If you actually do suceed to jump ship without us killing you first, which is highly doubtful, then you will not survive out at sea by yourselves. It is hard out there and you will either starve or you will get attacked by whatever may be out there. So go ahead, try and jump ship. See how that works out for you." The dark-haired girl paused for a moment before glancing back at them. "Plus, it's the Captain's orders. If it was up to me, you two would be stayin' down there." With a small shrug and another sigh, she began to walk through the small crowds of people that had gathered on the ship. Some of Charlotte's shipmates seemed to have started to notice the two humans; everyone had heard of what had happened. Two humans hadn't been killed for specific reasons. So, actually seeing them was obviously something to them.

"On babysitting duty, Charlotte?" one of the men who was standing in a large group called over to Charlotte with a laugh. His friends seemed to find that hilarious and began to laugh along with him. Charlotte shot a glare at him, but continued to walk. She obviously didn't find it very funny. Without a reply, she swiftly walked past the man to go towards where all the food was kept. When she reached a fairly large wooden door, she pushed it open and stepped inside. Gesturing for the two humans to follow her, she glanced around through slitted eyes. "I assume you're all pretty hungry. So, because we have to keep you alive, I'm gonna' give you two enough food to fill you up. That way I don't havta' feed you ever couple of minutes." Charlotte's tone was a bit lighter than it had been before, so her anger at being on 'babysitting duty' had obviously dimmed.
The dark-haired girl began to walk farther into the room, taking in the smells of all the food. The chef on the Phantom was exellent; he could make almost anything requested and, if he couldn't, he'd learn how. Charlotte glanced around in search for the man, but he was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps he was taking a break?

Instead of waiting for the chef to pop up, Charlotte simply walked over to some of the cabinets and began to search through them. "Anything in particular you two want?" she asked, her voice soft and curious. She glanced back at the two, one eyebrow raised.

---

Carter found himself blinking repeatedly as the sunlight hit his face, directly hitting his eyes. The bright light caused a sharp pain to arouse on the back of the young man's head, causing him to try to, unsucessfully, stifle a gasp. He clenched his teeth and continued to follow the angry-looking girl. When the other boy asked why they were being taken out of the brig when they could quickly try to run, Carter swallowed. He waited for the girl to yell, but she simply talked to them and explained what would happen. He didn't like their options.
Staying silent the whole time, Carter followed the girl as she pushed her way through the small crowds and groups of pirates. They seemed to stare at him and the other boy as if they were an entirely different creature. This only made him even more nervous. Why were they here in the first place? Why had they, two ordinary people on the boat, been kept alive? Why hadn't they chosen one of the older men, who could have more than likely been more useful? These types of questions flooded Carter's mind and he couldn't help but sigh. He had a strong feeling that soon he'd be finding out why they had been kept alive. He also had a feeling that he wouldn't like the answer.

When one of the men shouted over to the girl, he raised an eyebrow. 'Babysitting duty'? Carter felt himself scowl ever so slightly. So, she had to 'babysit' them? That was just great. Hearing that made Carter look down in slight embarrassment. It wasn't as if they were children. They could look after themselves perfectly fine. But the dark-haired boy continued to stay silent; he knew that speaking out would only cause more problems for him and possibly the other boy as well.
Realization then took hold on the young man. The man had called the girl leading them Charlotte. So, her name was Charlotte? For some reason, this surprised Carter. He had known they all had names...but it surprised him that these people could live such odd lives and yet have such normal names. Carter shook his head. He wasn't even making sense, now. He rubbed the back of his head, flinching as he did so. It must be his injury.

Soon, he found himself stopping outside of a fairly large wooden door. Judging by the smells coming from it, it was the kitchen. Carter followed the girl inside after she gestured for them to follow and couldn't help but take in a deep breath, taking in all of the smells that wafted around them. When she asked if they wanted anything specific, he found himself surprised once more. She actually cared that much? Carter simply shook his head in reply. He would take whatever he got and didn't want to have her go through anymore trouble than she already was. Besides; it might only make her mad if he specifically requested for something special. And Carter really didn't want to make her mad again. Who knew what she would do then?

{ Yes. You better. Wait, what book(s) am I recommending again? Ah yes, Alex Rider. <3 Ahhh... ^^
And when I said feel free to make a character to talk with, I didn't mean like a whole new form for a whole new person. I realized my wording was faulty. xD }

Rosetta had been drifting on the verge of sleeping when suddenly the whole ship went silent. Then a few whispers could be heard. Then words, then laughter. Annoyed, Rosetta opened her eyes beneath her bangs. The humans. That was what this ruckus was about. Sleep left her mind as she studied the two humans. Much to her annoyance, they were both male and despite the fact that they were humans, they weren't... bad looking, Rosetta mused to herself. They looked terrible though after the attack on their ship. It had to be done, strike them unconscious, or else things could have been a lot worse.
Rosetta rolled back so she was sitting on her heels, her wings still splayed out as she watched the humans disappear into the gallery. As the talk about the humans subsided for the moment, Rosetta was glad she wasn't Charolette. Sadly, Rosetta could often have a pride problem that had been called upon by the Captain more than once. And leading around a few flightless humans was something Rosetta hoped she would never have to do.
"Ms. Matthews, on your feet!" The Captain called, bring everyone back to reality. As far as the Captain was consured (sp!), the humans weren't that important. Sighing, Rosetta stood up and folded her wings beneath her shirt. Unless the Captain wanted her to be up on the sails she usually couldn't spend her time flying. With luck, at the end of the day while the rest of the crew was eating supper she would unfurl her wings and fly alongside the ship. It was the best feeling in the world, flying. Rosetta always felt free, at ease. Her problems didn't seem so large when she had her wings to take her away from it all.
"I need you to take the crow's nest. Miles isn't feel too good so he's headed down below to see the doctor." Rosetta heard the Captain loud and clear and with a small nod, her emotions and thoughts masked as always, Rosetta grabbed onto the rigging and shimmed her way all the way up to the highest point of the ship: the crow's nest. Rosetta's feet landed lightly on the bottom of the wooden 'basket' it was roomy enough and most of the crew dreaded the task but it was one of Rosetta's favorites. She was allowed to do all the thinking and day dreaming she wanted without having to worry about slacking. The task was fairly simple being as all she had to watch out for was other ships , storms, and land. At the moment the Phantom was headed towards a small London harbor. They were running low on food and water and it was a terrible idea to be out at sea without fresh water. And, if Rosetta was allowed on shore she loved to get a few oranges to ward off the disease scurvy. And the tangy citrus flavor was surprisingly welcome. Food on a ship could get pretty bland after a while. And secretly, Rosetta was a big fan of food. She never ate a lot but the way that no two types of food tasted the same was a guilty pleasure of Rosetta.

"Oh, Ro, why aren't you just a normal girl? I'm sure things would be easier for you." She muttered to herself, running a hand through her dark hair. She'd seen plenty of harmless flirting among the ship. And often times when she was alone Rosetta would sulk about how things should, could be different if only she was... not her. Of course there had been some guys interested, but Rosetta didn't like the idea of not being free. With a relationship, you couldn't just spend time on yourself whenever you wanted, you had to think about the other person constantly it seemed. But then, there were always the plus's that outweighed the minus's. She could have someone who thought about her just as much as she thought about him. And it would be a major comfort if no matter how terrible of a day she was having, things would always be better whenever she saw him. Whoever him was...
With a huff Rosetta blew her long bangs from her eyes, longing to just take flight or maybe even a swim. There were bound to be some dolphins around now that they were drawing closer and closer towards shore. But from her perch Rosetta didn't see any frolicking marine dolphins so that could make the task at hand a little more... lonely. But she pushed that thought out of her mind. Why should she think about something as sad as that? So to keep her mind from wondering, Rosetta stared at the clouds, thinking how soon a storm may arise, weather wise and with the crew vs. humans...

~~~
William thought it cruel that him and the other boy had to be led across the deck in front of the rest of the crew. He tried not to meet any gazes or glares but it was hard. There's something strange going on... William tried to descreetly figure out what but it was hard when everyone looked as if they wanted to hurt him. Except for a couple of them. The captain and a girl. She didn't appear to be older than him, maybe younger than him by a few months, maybe a year, but what really got his attention was that her face was devoid of emotion. She didn't seem annoyed that he was there or happy about it either. And the fact that she had wings also caused him to stare. But soon enough they had crossed the deck and entered below once more.
Mind spinning, William barely caught a word that the grumpy girl had said. He looked at her for a moment before give a half-hearted shrug. He was slightly afraid that if he asked for something it would cause the girl to be all the more annoyed.
"It doesn't really matter to me." He said softly, still trying to figure everything out. Something was wrong, definitely wrong. But he couldn't do a thing about it, that was what bugged him the most. He would never be treated like an equal on this ship, that was for sure. Yet William had a feeling they would have their work cut out for them. Something just wasn't right. If a single girl had a wings, why didn't anyone else stare at her? Did they find it natural? Normal? William gently pushed his hair away from his face, careful not to cause his head to throb painfully, and glanced around the small room. Everything looked clean - or at least as clean as a ship's kitchen could get. Luckily there weren't any rats scuttling about for the rats aboard gave William the shivers. They were creepy in everything they did in his eyes. Not that anyone cared. He was often silenced for his musings, he could barely ever have a say in anything. But he never said anything. Just maybe it wasn't his time to be heard. He listened to the soothing sounds of the water, mere meters away, and the muffled shouts of the crew. It was comforting to be awake, to have at least a sense of direction for he knew his way around ships, and to be away from those peering eyes was a relief. He wasn't an animal. How different could he be from them all?
Extremely.
Tired of avoiding the girl like she was poisonous, William studied her. He still felt dazed but focusing on something helped. She was pretty. He had to admit that. Her eyes seemed... complicated. Like she was feeling different things at the same time? It was hard to say. Truthfully, William was afraid to get too close to her. He had a hunch that if he did the wrong thing it would send her over the edge. Which was not something he needed to deal with right then. His throat was screaming out for water while his stomach was feeling slightly woozy from being unconscious for so long. But, nothing he couldn't handle... William looked away from the girl to the shafts of light streaming through the thin cracks of the wooden boards. It was one of his favorite things about being on the sea. The way the sunlight didn't look like ordinary sunlight when it was peaking through the floor boards, hidden for a moment by footsteps and shadows. It always seemed to catch his attention no matter what he was up to. William felt his mind drifting away from the strange girl to his little sister. He knew a few people who would willingly take care of Mel but what if no one noticed until it was too late? She was very good, too good, at blending in with the beggers and misfits. It was one of her 'bad habits' that William had tried amany times to break.
William took even breathes. If he let his anxiety on the subject continue then he would probably be a mess. So he forgot about it for there was nothing he could do at the moment so he might as well just relax as much as he could on a pirate ship where everyone looked like they wanted to kill him.
{ Sooo pretend this is not months late and stuff... ;-; }
Re: You Wouldn't Believe Me **Private**
Postby FoldєdPapєrHєarts » Sun Jan 02, 2011 1:40 pm
(( Yes, I kind of figured haha. C: And I can already tell that my post is going to be waaaaaay smaller than yours; I'm a little rusty. D: ))
Charlotte sighed, the feeling of irritation coming back at the two human's responces. "Well, that doesn't exactly help me, you know. Can you at least look around and stop acting like two fools and help me find something that you'd like to eat? If not, you're both going to just end up with bread." She closed the cabinet that she had been riffling through before turning to the two boys with a small frown.
What did they expect from her, anyways? Her to just magically produce something delicious for both of them, something that they would both enjoy? Although she didn't feel that the humans were necessary, despite what they were being used for, she didn't want their lives to be a hell while on the ship. "Just...find something you want, okay?" she asked, trying to make her tone as nice as possible. Charlotte knew very well that, at times, she could be...harsh. But she only got that way when she was annoyed or when she was angry. Which, unfortunately, was quite often. Charlotte was the type of person to get annoyed easily and, when she was annoyed, she often got angry. She wasn't that way all of the time, though-when she was alone and just had time to think and do whatever she pleased. That was when she could be seen at her best. Although, unfortunately, being alone meant that few got to see her like that.
Rolling her shoulders slightly and blowing her hair out of her eyes, she leaned against one of the counters. Charlotte wished that she could just dump these two with someone else-someone more patient, preferably-and go out, above decks, and just sit out in the sun for a little while. On the way to the kitchens, she had seen Rosetta doing just that. Perhaps later she could, if she didn't have to continue watching the two humans. As she studied the two boys, she watched their expressions and how they acted-something Charlotte did often. The one boy looked flat-out scared and pretty confused. She couldn't blame him, though. If she had suddenly been taken from everything that she knew to be normal and had been placed on a ship so strange as the Phantom, she would be scared and confused as well. She then glanced towards the other boy-he was looking at her as well, studying her. She held his gaze for a moment before looking away and suddenly finding the floorboards quite interesting.
With her back away from the two, Charlotte let her wings come out from underneath her shirt ever-so slightly. She couldn't help it; having them tucked away bothered her and she hated it. She always had. However, she had no idea if the Captain would get mad or not if she just let her wings out freely in front of the two boys. So, keeping them out of her shirt but still behind her back was her best option for now. But, then again, she thought, they probably saw everyone's wings back when we were on the deck. And plus, they're going to find out eventually. She considered just letting them completely stretch out and, as she studied the two boys for a few moments, decided that it would be fine. After all, what were they going to do if she did? Letting her wings-both a lovely chocolate brown with cream flecks throughout them- fall freely from each side of her, the brunette leaned against the counter once more.
---
Carter frowned slightly at the girl's responce. She didn't seem nearly as angry as before-just a little irritated. With a soft sigh, the young man shrugged lamely. "Honestly, I'm not up to eating anything at the moment. But, since I'm probably going to starve if I don't, can I just have some stew?" he asked, his voice hesitant and tentative. He wasn't sure if actually asking for something would make her mad. He gestured towards the pot of stew that had been left on the stove-top; a nice smell was wafting from it and it kept causing the young man's stomach to growl in anticipation for a nice meal.
When the girl simply shrugged and nodded, Carter had to stop himself from sighing in relief. Walking slowly over towards the stove, he grabbed a bowl and ladled some of the stew into it. He hadn't had a decent meal for days so seeing the beef and various types of vegetables surrounded by a nice warm broth was like a dream come true. Taking a spoon, he began to eat slowly. He knew if he ate too much too fast then he would probably get sick. So, as he chewed and swallowed, he tried his best to refrain from eating it all in a few bites.
The cook on the ship he had been on hadn't been one of the best. He could cook a few things but only those few things. He never learned anything new or tried to, either. So, actually eating something new for a change was a like a breath of fresh air.
Soon, Carter was looking around the room and studying everything he could while he ate. The sun was creeping through the cracks in the boards, creating a slighting eerie effect. The sound of rowdy(sp?) laughter, shouting and talking could be heard from above. He then shifted his gaze to the girl and, as he did so, his eyes widened slightly. Wings? She had wings? Where had those come from? For a few moments, Carter did nothing but stare in awe. What kind of ship am I on...? he wondered, his mind prickling curiously. He felt numb, almost. This was too odd to be true, it really was.
(( Yep, I knew it; terrible post. D: Sorrehhh. ))
{ Well it took me forever to reply because I wanted it to be nice and big and awesome. D: I guess now that you said that I can just slack off and do one liners? Ew, no! Just kidding <3 }
William couldn't help but stare slightly at the girl. For a moment she had been strong and now she was just, not exactly giving up, but letting them have free rein. His hunger soon won out so William simply grabbed a slice of warm bread. He didn't feel up to a hardy meal though he did find a few carrots and an orange to ward off the scurvy. As the questions battled in his head, William absently brushed a hand through his hair. He had a feeling if he spoke he would only annoy the girl further with his many questions, so he stayed silent... For the most part.
"Why aren't we dead? Why didn't you just kill us like the rest of the crew?" He looked up from his orange to meet the girl's eyes. He was worried that he probably shouldn't have asked but it was gnawing at him just like his hunger had been. It was a serious question and he didn't want to have to be talked about behind his back anymore. His hair messily falling into his eyes, William told himself that he didn't have to be afraid of this girl, whoever she was. "I'm William by the way." He said softly, pushing his anger away. As far as he knew, it was harder to kill something when you knew more about it like if it had a family or even just a name. So here goes nothing...
His thoughts racing this way and that, William dropped his gaze for a moment from the girl. Yet, when he looked up something was very different. The girl, she had wings! William's eyes widened and his heart beat picked up. No, it can't be... They looked too real for him to not believe. His logical thinking didn't want to believe it. William looked at the graceful curve of the wings, the perfectly placed feathers. It was almost too much. Feeling fear fill his throat, William swallowed roughfully. This was all too freaky. But he didn't ask. He didn't question it. His feelings and thoughts were so mixed up. What he wanted to ask most - of all things - was if she could really fly. Would they hold her body weight? Her wings? He figured they looked strong enough. They looked long enough. He was dying to see them in action but politely held his tongue. He was sure that the time to ask - or even catch a glimpse of them in use - would show itself soon enough. If only William could wait patiently.
William didn't try to stop staring at her wings. It was something no one had ever heard of, only in dreams. It was terribly exciting. It made him almost long himself for a pair of feathered wings. Just the mere thought of it sent more questions rushing to his brain. Then again, he could see why all of the crew members - if they all had wings - would be so negative towards humans. They can never belong to sociaty (sp). They're outcasts. Freaks. That was how the world would see them. All William could feel was sympathy now but, quickly hiding that, he looked back to his food, a warm blush touching his cheeks for he knew he had stared too long.
~~~

Rosetta glanced down at the ship, pleased to see no one was critequing (sp) her task, she unfurled her wings and jumped into the wind so that it was more as she was gliding at her post instead of simply just standing there. Only every once in a while she had to beat down powerfully to keep herself airborne, but it was much better than just gazing out at the sea boringly. She didn't see anything that would be a sign of danger or excitement, so Rosetta left her post for a moment to soar high into the sky. Her wings were aching to be used once more so Ro stretched her wings out as far as they would reach and felt a small laugh leave her mouth. When she was alone Rosetta felt most at ease. No one to judge her, laugh at her, make her nervous or even fall for her. She was surrounded by love these days it seemed. Sometimes she would hear a couple aboard the ship whisper sweetly to each other. Sometimes when they were docked and she was able to persuade the Captain to let her go on shore, she would see sailors making pretty girls giggle. Sometimes Rosetta just wished love would leave her alone. She wasn't interested, how many times did she have to say that?

The wind tickling her feathers, Rosetta glided back down to the ship, landing lightly in the 'basket' that was the crow's nest. A sigh played across her lips as she kept her wings out so they would catch the cooling breeze. Scanning the horizon, Rosetta felt the thought of the humans take root in her mind. She had tried very hard not to think about them but she couldn't help it. Why in the world were they still here? She would have gladly throw them overboard for all the trouble they could/would cause. It was only a matter of time. They were often clumsy and not exactly the brightest in the bunch. They were slow compared to the Phantom's crew who would simply dart from place to place, never touching the ground as they leapt. Rosetta had hated almost every human she has ever met. It was harsh and a hurried opinion but there was only one human that she had ever loved: Her father. Just the thought of him made her smile. But loving another human? Never.

A puffy white cloud blocked the sun from view, casting all things in shadow, and sent a chill along Rosetta's spine. They didn't belong on the Phantom; the humans. Two more mouths to feed? When the whole crew ate more than they should? It was because they used up so much energy by flying, and soaring, and working all day to keep out of sight. But yet, the Captain wanted them aboard and so they shall be. No one had ever arranged a mutiny whilst Captain was at the head of the ship. Before Rosetta had joined, there was rumor that the Captain had set up his own mutiny for the captain that had been current. Well, there were amany rumors that followed ships everywhere. It took real skill to find out which stories were fairy tales, or cold, hard truths.
