Oh, but noooooo, obviously it was the fans pressuring him into releasing it early it's not like he has a track record.

Good to see the trailer! Looks good. I kinda wish he'd actually take his time with games though. Like, everyone would be a lot happier with a far later release date and a much more complete game, but to each their own.

I agree with this a lot, I really rather it be released a lot later but apparently not.

Why the "Phone Guy is Purple Guy" theory is a chicken wing theory.

Chicken wing theory: much like a chicken wing has very little meat, a theory that has little to no evidence to support it.

Several people have put up the theory of Phone Guy and Purple Guy being the same person. Let's just see why this can't be the case.

1) If you do as GameTheory did and look at the hours worked in a five-day workweek in both Five Nights at Freddy's and Five Nights at Freddy's 2 compared to the hourly minimum wage of each year or pair of years in certain cases, you'll find that FNAF chronologically takes place after FNAF 2, about ten years later, in fact. FNAF 2 takes place in November of 1987, and FNAF takes place sometime in the late 1990s, 1996 I believe.

2) Based on dialogue alone, Phone Guy from FNAF and Phone Guy from FNAF 2 are the same person. What are the odds of two completely unrelated people sounding almost exactly alike, with only slight differences in how they regard their safety at the job?

So, with this in mind, let's look at the "evidence" and rebuttals.

1) Phone Guy and Purple Guy both like Foxy.

Rebuttal: Purple Guy liking Foxy is only a loosely-derived assumption based on his position in one of the minigames in FNAF 2. Besides, lots of people like Foxy. It's not a huge deal for two people to like the same character.

2) Phone Guy and Purple Guy both knew about the saferooms that were inaccessible to customers.

Rebuttal: If you actually listen to the instruction tapes played from Nights 3 to 5 in FNAF 3, all employees at the time of FNAF 2 knew about the saferooms. Purple Guy and Phone Guy were both former employees (or at least it's assumed that Purple Guy was).

3) Purple Guy and Phone Guy both knew about the two suits that could be worn by humans.

Rebuttal: Of course they did. As employees, it would have been their job at some point to put the suits on and entertain the kids that way. But Phone Guy obviously regarded the dangers of the suits and most likely wouldn't have worn them. If he had been Purple Guy, he would have inspected the condition of the suit and been careful about getting in. Purple Guy clearly disregarded the danger, and the condition of Springtrap, when he put the suit on. The moisture in the building and the sudden movement of the suit when he slipped into it were what caused the locking mechanisms to malfunction and kill him.

Now, let's look at one other thing everyone seems to have missed.

In Night 6 of FNAF 2, Phone Guy says, "Someone used one of the suits. We had a spare one in the back, a yellow one." This can obviously be assumed to be the incident that killed Purple Guy, since the only wearable animatronic that we truly know of is Springtrap (the theory that Golden Freddy is another of those suits is another chicken wing theory for another day).

If Phone Guy were Purple Guy, he wouldn't have said that because he'd be dead.

this. I hate the phone guy is purple guy theory because it has very little evidence to back it up, and I think really the only reason why so many people believe the theory is because a popular youtube show came up with it. I mean, I like game theory, but there's just so many plotholes with the phone guy = purple guy theory that it bothers me.
unless scott 100% confirms it, which I doubt he will, I will disagree with this theory.

It was while I was dissecting the theory that I learned it pays to actually listen to Phone Guy. He reveals a lot of stuff that people skip over because they think what he has to say is just relevant to gameplay and not the actual plotline of the games themselves.

And I don't even play the games to begin with; if I did I'd never sleep again.

I agree wholeheartedly. I too, like Game Theory and most, if not all, of the videos are entertaining and make sense. But some of the theories he poses in the FNaF videos hold very little water.

My biggest problem with it is this;

MatPat said that on the night four phone call from Phone Guy, when Phone Guy speaks about "The backroom", he's speaking about the safe room. But this doesn't make sense. If Phone Guy was calling from the room itself, or while he was stepping in the suit, how could he have? Did they even have cellphones in the 90's? Weren't they those horrible brick phones? And also, it was Purple Guy who lured and smashed the animatronics, it wasn't the animatronics that chased him to the safe room.
Also, do you really think Scott would think back that far? I don't. When it comes to creating compelling stories, most things just happen and are rarely planned.

And I'd like to hear your chicken wing theory on the Golden Freddy suit. Because I believe that it is the "Spring Freddy" that is mentioned.
Megaguirus gets distracted by a butterfly. So pretty.

Simultaneous storywriting doesn't always happen. Think of Homestuck. It has the most complex plot of anything I've ever seen, read, or heard of, and the comic is only just now covering mysteries from years ago.

And I don't actually have a full chicken wing theory on Golden Freddy yet, other than the fact that given his design versus Springtrap's, I don't think it's likely that he's one of those suits made to be worn. (It's mostly because he has four fingers versus five like Springtrap.)

Besides, if you listen to Phone Guy again on Night 6 in 2, he says, "the yellow one." Not a yellow one, which would imply that there was more than one. That alone should probably disprove any theories about Golden Freddy being a wearable animatronic, if the yellow suit mentioned was Springtrap and the incident mentioned was the one in which Purple Guy was killed.

Actually, I have a reason that would go against this being the incident of purple guys death.
Purple guy supposedly died after the pizzeria in FNAF 1 closed, but this is not confirmed, but before his death, he destroyed the animatronics, meaning that if he died then, the animatronics would be destroyed.
But the animatronics seem to still be in the same condition they were at the start of the week, meaning they couldn't have been destroyed.
Also, if he died in 1987, why would springtrap had only become active years later?
(There is always the possibility that springtrap is shadow bonnie, but I'm still not sure if I belive it or not.)

What I don't get is this.

Okay, so if GameTheory is right and the chronological order is 2 -> 1 -> 3, and it was mentioned in 1 that the animatronics have been "singing the same dumb songs for twenty years," there had to be a restaurant back in the '70s.

What are you playing at, Cawthon?

Another surprise sequel?

I'm watching you.
