Green Robot Rat Discussion

Backstory, the green robot rat was a pet released during the 2016 Space Event and it was VR since the time of its release.



I tried to search and search for what its worth, but there is absolutely NO information on its worth! Everyone says its likely worth quite a bit but even five years after release, its worth is still not known. A zodiac dog was traded for one, but that's really the only documented case of it being traded.

Has anybody traded this pet before? What do you price it as?

Considering what Horror has stated in their thread, the Green Robot Rat is sitting somewhere between any of the non-list vrs and the low Octobers when it comes to the worth by pure rarity.

however. this rat is one of the very few examples that show, that not all rats' value suffer from their horrible demand. while the demand causes most rats' values to be lower than their actual worth, it's completely different with this one.

I've seen this rat going for anything between 3 '09 rares and 1 ma (8-9 09 rares).

this is probably because this particular rat seems to be way harder to find than any of the older vr rats or even the omgsr rats.

Honestly, there is no way to put a 100% set price tag onto it.

I've tried an MA for the rat before and it wasn't enough countless times, I do believe it has alot of demand. People like robo animals, especially really rare ones.

I think a lot of people just didn't get extras of the rat litter from the event... well, because they were rats.
This makes them rarer to trade for now, imo, because the people that got them from trade in (or traded for them during the event) just traded tokens or other event pets for one of each outcome for their collection. Once they collected all the rats, they used their extra tokens for other pets, since "rats have bad demand", and they thought the other pets would be better fodder. That's just my thoughts on it...

However I have one small grievance with it, and that is other rats from the same litter are just rare. The rat is hard to come by because it is very rare, and much like the august pps, was one of the few non-store pets to be very rare from the start. If I remember correctly (and do tell if I'm wrong, it was 2016) the pet was a gamble for which rat you were going to get. I understand people likely got it for collection purposes and moved on, but there is still the idea that the rat was simply harder to obtain, therefore when only a few people managed to grab it, it became very rare.
I believe rarity works in the concept of; so many pets to so many active members (I dont know the exact ratio)
Meaning that, in combination to few people grabbing the rats and the rng aspect, the rat became very rare.
Demand wise, I really wasn't aware it was going for so much, as mines been locked in a nft group for four years, and I havent accepted any trades on it, nor sought it out since. I believe it is once again, akin to the august pps situation, people kind of freaked out a few years later wondering why it was so rare from the start, and therefore it was a mad dash to get one. Peoples desire to get the robot rat is likely similar to the august pps, an 'oh shiny' mentality, therefore the demand will inflate more and more overtime. I assume because its a rat its demand will stop at some point, but who knows.

I really just wish a worth would be chosen for the rat. Its been a number of years now and still nobody knows its worth, so nobody wants to trade them.

I did a quick search and unfortunately, either the old event trades were moved to a different non accessible forum or they are deleted after a time. Most likely deleted, but I do remember a lot of people tying to trade for the rat. I think I remember getting one in my original adopts but I ended up looking and the one I have is traded for. I traded for it the same day it came out though so it's not helpful. The discussion thread helps shed some insight though:

The token turn ins were confusing for a lot of people and the rats required multiple steps. Them being rats also did not help as many people didn't want to put in the effort to adopting the rats. With the archive now showing complete collections and the couple of threads showcasing rarity changes, people are showing more interests in obtaining rats for their collections. A very low supply and a growing demand is helping the rats' collectiblity.
I didn't adopt the 2013 store rats myself and found them annoying to find. I then ended up trying for a second set and they are fairly hard to find. The store rats actually get more offers than most of my other store pets, but I'm not really willing to let them go easy just because they are rats. Some of the last non-list pets I had to get were rats, in particular the panda rats. the roborat is no different, less people adopting them, low supply, and re-releases only happen one day out of the year.

I've been keeping an eye on Dec. 18th pets ever since the space event and I have not seen that rat or any in the litter re-released. I'd like to be proven wrong though if anyone has any? In fact, could discussion be opened up to the 2013 store rats as well?

Pets get rarity tags based on how many of the pet are owned per the number of active accounts on CS. One of the ways to place a value on a pet is based on when it changes from one rarity tag to another. A pet that goes from rare to very rare in 2014 has had 7 years for copies of it to go inactive on inactive accounts (so there are less of the pet, so it is rarer.) A pet that goes from rare to very rare in 2018 then only has 3 years. That makes the former provably rarer.
The reason this rat is so hard to value is because it started out as very rare. The likelihood is that it is only just rare enough to place within the very rare bracket (hence why it has never been rereleased). However, because it has never moved rarity tag, nobody actually knows. It could be much closer to the rarer end of the bracket. I don't believe this to be true, but because nobody knows for certain, nobody can say one way or another exactly what it's worth.

Of course, you can argue that as far as demand goes, it's just worth whatever it trades for. As with lots of pets, it's mostly up to you and whoever your trade partner is to decide where you value it at.

If I recall correctly, those rats came from the same token trade-in as these cats

so that can't entirely be the case.

Okay, so first, go to the greenhouse and trade in the banner tokens for flowers.
After that, head to the lobby (where Andromeda is) and trade in the flowers for the machine parts.
Last step, I promise: Go to Az'it's lab and trade in the machine parts. You'll either get one of the robot rats or the constellation cats.
