it's not about a medal. people take things seriously. especially when some have invested hundreds...some thousands into this game.

if there is no satisfaction or fairness to having rare pets....then go gift all of your rares and very rares to a new player that has none. if there is no value to having something that someone else does not. ;)

Yeah, it would benefit to calm down the demand, but at the same time a lot would get screwed over by it and would've just end up losing a lot of pets of value.
I still stand behind what I said in my previous post, that people should accept the fact that store pets are meant to be limited, Tess even said that they don't count towards full pet collection 'cause they're more like prices you get for funding and supporting the site.

This. It would feel kinda sucky if something I paid a lot for just magically turned up in the store again for a price that was less than what I paid.

Also, I don't think it's as much of a "looking for a medal" as it is not wanting to feel like you've wasted your time/funds trading for a limited pet only for it to turn up again in a far more accessible way. Having goals/dreamies/whatever is a huge part of CS and what keeps people interested- it just seems to me that lessening pets' values would take away from that part more than help it.

i've been playing since 2009 and spent a lot of money on this site. not from the beginning, as i was still a minor then.

these "13 year olds" will grow up too and if the site is still around by then, will be able to spend real money too if desired.

also, even kids can understand the concept of "limited", so why are we struggling so much with this simple thing...

the answer is simply greed and the fact that some people refuse to understand that they just...cannot have every thing they want LOL.

i just find humor in the situation because they can be mad about it all they want but the creators will not do what they want....simply because they want to own the rarest pet on the site and it's hard to trade for....naturally. :)

and funnily enough...i was actually 13 when i first started playing cs! and never was bitter towards people that had store pets that i couldn't buy with real money...i just traded for them lol. and also understood the concept of some pets not being re released.

Okay, fine, they won't be rereleased, I don't care that much. I've never been "bitter" towards people who have rare pets but what this discussion has brought up for me is the question why some responses have been downright spiteful, talking about "entitlement" and the like. I think some people - some people that own rare pets - really need to relax and accept that all said and done even the most valuable pet on CS isn't actually worth anything. There's a surprising amount of ego tied into the idea of owning something "rare" on a pet collection site for children. Just enjoy the art.

I keep my pets because I think they're cute, not because of their rarity. So no, I'm not going around giving away my hard-earned collection. But I also don't insist that nobody else is "entitled" to owning them and that somehow because I spent money on this website I'm special. R e l a x.

if an site exists for 10+ years, there are going to be players who literally grew up with it and of course take it more serious than someone who just joined or is still in their early teens..

but that's the same for pretty much every other pet collecting site too, i'm not sure why that's so surprising.

there's thousands of gorgeous pets you can collect without going after limited pets, and so many ways to enjoy this game.

ariadne wrote:I also think that's a pretty cold-hearted way of looking at it. "Entitled" to have? It's a pet collection site for kids. We're here to collect pretty pixels, not to boast about how we bested 13-year-olds in a trading game by virtue of having real world money. That's kind of an unpleasant way to look at this site.

I think you misunderstand.

You logged onto the site today?

Did you have to refresh 9 times in order for it to show up or get to another page?
No?

Well, there ya go. That's my reason for donating. Because there was a time where that happened and I didn't want it to happen again.

Also the values are arbitrary and that's what makes this kind of situation so uncomfortable. Everyone wants a raven, but are there the same amount of people looking for a patchwork? No.
Why? They cost the same, they came out at the same time. The current "value" literally has no meaning. Multiply that my however many hundreds of store pets there are. (206 by last count.)

I didn't "best" anyone.
If I buy a store pet set, then immediately delete it, are you affected in any way? No. They wouldn't have existed otherwise. That is my point. They aren't worth anything. They're images on a screen.

I don’t think it’s a cutthroat attitude, it’s just kind of how the reality of the situation is. limited pets from years ago are not rereleased, and being unable to accept that sometimes not everything within a game is obtainable is probably going to cause more grief in the long run than it’s worth.

I’m not saying “demand” isn’t a problem in other ways, but to me, upping the limited quantities of old store pets would ultimately do more harm than good.

I joined in 2011. I'm a grown adult now, but I definitely didn't use to be.

The point of CS pets is to be appreciated. They're pieces of art. I think the idea of locking them away forever as limited editions is non-sensical and I dislike how defensive everyone has gotten over their trophies as if being limited means anything besides "less people get to appreciate this."
If that's how you want to continue that's fine, I'm not invested in it either way, most store pets creep me out because they're overdesigned to the max. I just think some people really need to reevaluate how they view their pixels, for their own emotional health, apparently.

I still think it’s fair to say that deleting old, sought-after pets, especially ones with high rarities, and doing so in a way to deliberately upset other people is a pretty low move. no one has the right to tell someone they can’t delete a pet, but for that person to come at it with the attitude of “I’m deleting it to make it even harder for anyone else to get one,” and broadcasting that, is unkind. It’s perfectly within the person’s “right,” but it is unkind.

disclaimer that what I’m about to say is for the purpose of comic relief but I could write a THESIS on how much of my emotional health hinges on pixel animals shdshklh
