This. Is. Simply. Perfect.
I was captivated from day one. I'd watch her from my group, across the passageway from her. While the other puppies jostled and wrestled and played, I would just sit by the glass screen, watching her.
There seemed to be nothing really extraordinarily special about her. She was just a small grey pup at first, under a blanket decorated with two windows in a grey stone wall overlooking a sunset.
But as she grew, a purple mist emanated from her. It surrounded her for a day, and when it eventually evaporated it wasn't a young, helpless grey pup that lay among her siblings, it was a beautiful young she-wolf, with a purple goth-like dress and stunning blue eyes.
Of course, as soon as this happened the Master took her in and gave her a collection of wonderful purple toys, like she had with all of the pup's siblings. The pup seemed bewildered with all the items; even so, I couldn't help but feel a small stab of jealousy as the small pup was given all this. It meant that she was probably safe from being traded away; unlike all of us in my group who could be gone at the push of a button. Literally.
But then her rarity was announced: rare. My jealousy evaporated, replaced by something I'd so far only felt for myself: concern. Now that the pup was rare, more trade offers would be made for her. And more chance of her being traded away. My watching her became less of a way to pass the time and more of a way to convince myself she was safe.I had been worried about the 'banner pup'- as users called the litter- for quite some time, and I was beginning to tire of just watching her. She'd noticed me gazing at her through the glass screens and had begun to retreat to the back of the glass box where she and the rest of her group lived.
A soft beeping started and a light on the wall began to flash rhythmically. We all scrambled to our feet and organized ourselves as the glass box containing the dogs jerked into motion and slid up the wall. The electronic display changed from Dogs (152 pets) to Dogs (149 pets). The Master had accepted a trade. As the box came down, I eyed it sadly. Three dogs from last month had disappeared. A bewildered-looking dog from three months ago dropped into the box labeled Pets without a group (0 pets) as the display changed to show the glass box was now occupied. Just as quickly, the dog dissolved away and reappeared in the dog group.
The electronic tags on the leather collars we all wore began to glow green as our own group was lifted into the viewing platform. The tags of a few puppies to my left flashed orange as the Master chose those to offer for a young lioness across from us. A typed message appeared above the holographs of the puppies displayed on the platform: Is this OK for you? Feel free to edit
Our group was lowered again. I watched the banner pup- Violet, her name was- as I lay and waited for the user to accept or edit. The puppies that had been offered were sitting together, shell-shocked that they had been offered away. Their tags were now red.
After a few minutes our box moved upwards again. The tags of a few of the offered puppies had gone back to green, and they were playing and laughing again, relieved that they were to stay.
And then the strangest thing happened. My tag turned orange. The same lioness as before now had a message displayed above her: Got them. How about this?
The reply was instant.
Done.
As my tag shimmered red, I just sat there, shocked.
I'd been traded away.
And as my form disintegrated and reappeared in another user's Pets without a group box, another thought struck me.
Would I ever see Violet again? It had been three months. Three months since the pup who watched me had disappeared.
I hadn't understood at the time. Where had he gone? Why was there a new lioness in the glass box a few boxes down?
I myself had been hidden at the bottom of a page when the Master found me. I had been too young to remember exactly, but I was certain that the person who found me was not the same person that was known as the Master here. Only now did I understand the system- heartless users swapping pets for others.
Yes. Users is the right word.
I didn't know where he had gone. Despite never having talked to him, I'd learned his name: Tiger. Huh. Real creative. But I missed him terribly, missed the way he'd gaze at me wistfully when he thought I wasn't looking, missed the way he looked when he slept.
Don't get me wrong; I was happy here. Our group was similar to the one next to ours; dark, with a paved stone path leading up to a beautiful, ancient-looking manor. Just for show; I'd tried to get in and hadn't succeeded. We were fed and watered regularly, by some unseen entity.
I slept in a little cave hewn into the stone wall at the back. It was comfortable and warm, with a purple silk curtain separating it from the rest of the scenery, and I had a great view of the group across from ours; the bright, sunny meadow where the puppies lived.
But it just wasn't the same.
Because he wasn't there any more.
Just to say, the fronts are glass, the rest of the group area is tailored to suit that particular group. But it all moves round for trading and such.

¦ AT FIRST ¦
naughty little fly, why does she cry?
Cold. This place is cold. Gooseflesh raises on the valley of my skin, dappling it- shadowing it with hundreds of tiny peaks. I shiver. Darkness has settled around me like sand in a river; ready to shift with a change in the wind. It's heavy and suffocating, my eyes begin to water as I search hopelessly for a light- for something I can look at. I shift slightly, rolling onto my side with an involuntary groan of pain. My ribs hurt, and my head pounds and seems to push in on itself as I move. Are they broken? My thoughts whisper as I gingerly probe my chest. It hurts. I stop.
The ground is hard, and rocky. My back is pitted with embedded stones- perhaps I had fallen? I can't remember, and this scares me. My heart seems to be forcing it's way out of my chest; it's frantic beating is so loud I cringe. Where am I? My breath comes hard and fast in the stagnant air, I gasp for oxygen now and then I am on my feet. The sudden movement bursts stars across my wide open eyes, and my head spins. I resist the urge to vomit, touching my face briefly and finding blood. Pulling my hand away hastily, I stifle a panicked sob as I stumble forwards.
twisting her little legs, blinking all her eyes?
I'm going to scream. My hands fumble blindly as I fall around in the darkness, scraping against the rock walls. I'm crying freely now, trembling. My skin is damp with sweat. The sound of my footsteps ricochet around the cavern, amplifying my futile struggle to escape. Something wet and sticky trips my bare foot, and I fall forwards with a terrified shriek.
I lay still for a few minutes, hardly daring to breathe. I try to lash out my arm, and that's when I realise I can't.
Silky, glistening, thick. It's ensnared me, and I cannot move. A spider's web.
she tries to scream, oh yes she does- wipe away your wet fly tears:
Light suddenly bursts into being- illuminating the cave with flickering firelight. Showing me exactly how I will meet my death. The web is ropy and smothering- weighed down with dust. It chokes me, stuck tightly to my legs and arm. I writhe desperately- trapped. Trapped. This time I do scream, the sound shreds my throat, a petrified wail of despair as I thrash madly at the bonds.
"No, NO!" My voice rasps, I'm begging. Pleading. Something moves in the darkness.
my venom is quick, you've nothing to fear.
A spider. A spider of grotesque proportion- each leg the length of my broken body. Eyes gleam hungrily at me from the shadows. It staggers towards me- mandibles clicking with anticipation. My wail intensifies. It is covered in hair, thick black strands that seem to clothe it in darkness. Two curved sabres protrude from it's jaw, sleek with poison. It continues jerking towards me, abdomen twitching with each step. The purpose in it's gaze is clear- I stop struggling, I will not escape.
caught in a web, soon you’ll be eaten.
[[more? I'm hoping this will be a short little triology <3
Wonderful, please continue

"Keegan, I have to go." she said quietly, as they sat on the front wall in the evening.
"No, you can't." he replied, hugging her closer to him.
"Keegan...You know I'll be back tomorrow..."
"No. I won't let you go."
"But why?" she said, beginning to struggle slightly.
"I can't take it without you, you're my sunshine, you're my moonlight, you're my stars, you're my sky, I cannot live without you in my life." he said, beginning to anger.
"Keegan, please," she begged, "you know what my father is like."
"No, Melody, you're staying here!"
"No!" she cried, thrusting herself off the wall, and running down the road.
He ran after her, and grabbed her jacket. He pulled her back to his house, and shoved her inside.

AleatoryWarrior wrote:Mmmk, this is based off a pet pairing of my own which was recently ruined by the new second-gen litter. Have fun delving into my mind...Who was I anyway?
I was never the handsome one of the family.
I was never anything, really.
So who was I to notice her?
she was beautiful and wonderful, and I didn't ever know much about her, but I knew that I really liked her. That I never liked anyone else.
She was always kind to me.
But she never noticed me.
Who was I, in her world, but a faceless face?
I never spoke more than a few words to her.
I saw her again, recently.
She was with another dog.
And they had four beautiful puppies.
Others were crowding around them, eager to see the young ones.
I joined them, but I choked up.
I managed to get out "Lovely."
I don't know if I meant her, or the pups.
She gave me the same polite nod and "Thank you." that she gave everyone else.
I turned to leave, and I swear I heard her whisper, "I'm sorry."
She knew...
Somehow, that made it hurt worse.
