Does anyone else feel like Demand is killing CS?

I am arguably one of the people that would benefit the most from rereleasing store pets. (I am only missing 4 for a complete collection. Cerbs, skelebun, and brown sleipnir). However, I stand against rereleasing them. Store pets are supposed to be a reward you get for supporting the site with money. And like many said, their entire appeal comes from the fact they are limited edition. Store pets simply wouldn't be purchased as often if they got rereleased.
It baffles me that people will go out of their way to obtain them for cheap, even if it means hurting other players, or even hurting the site as a whole.
Not everyone is supposed to be able to get their hands on cerbs and such. That's the entire point of store pets.
It's also why store pets aren't even considered part of a complete pet collection by Tess herself.

They're a luxury/bonus. They are not something everyone is entitled to.

I know you enjoy trading your pets for more than they’re worth to “get the most out of your pets”, but this is just inflation gone wild. Yes, there are some players out there spreading rumors that this pet is worth more or that pet is worth less, or even worthless. The truth should come first. If measured in real money, CS players probably have lost a little over a million dollars in unfair trading (no joke. The math adds up). Please trade fairly, all. There are two people in a trade and the whole CS community listening, you’re not alone.

it's demand and supply, that's how the world works even if this is just a game.
if there's people out there willing to pay a lot for certain pets, they why should others not accept it.
those people chose for themselves to pay that much, nobody forced them.
let's say you have an dragon cat pps and someone offers an sunjewel. do you really want to tell me that you'd decline the offer because it's too much


and you don't have to believe everything other players tell you.
people can easily use the search function and see for themselves if said pet really is that high in demand or if it's just 1-2 traders that got an really good offer. there's trade evidence being collected every day.

I was thinking this exact same thing.

I'm really scatterbrained today so I'm having a hard time wording what I'm thinking, but person A offering fairly on a pet of person B's only to get rudely declined with the justification of "current demand makes this worth way more than what you offered me" is... a big problem right now.

but people are paying the extreme overpay that some others demand, that's the problem...

we are all part of it.
if nobody overpays, nobody will expect it (or at least not the insame amount that's common right now for some pets)

Like the raven dog IS gorgeous and whatnot and you can't really change preference, I guess? Idk it is definitely a problem, I had such a nightmare trading down my nontag and zebra because of demand, even when i was overpaying on my side substantially, no one wanted it!

I don't know if anything can be done about it, no. I think it's unfortunately true that a small circle of highest bidders will always control the market.
I spent several months and an immense amount of effort to trade up to the one "big" pet I wanted, and although I'm happy I reached my goal, I'm not willing to do it again because it just ate up so much of my time and energy and I have other things in life I want to do haha. if a bunch of trading fodder in the ballpark of 1.5 nons just landed in my lap tomorrow, I'd much sooner trade it for a zebra than a raven. I love the zebras. I have ever since I joined.

but there was one (1) pet that was worth that effort to me and now that I have it, I'm not up in the big stakes trading circles anymore. I would personally value the zebra above the raven but what does it matter? my opinion doesn't count for much since I wouldn't be able to trade for either regardless.

exactly, i don't think there's much that can be done about it.
there'll always be people out there that have more trading fodder than others and can easily outbid them.

you can just hope to find an trading partner whose values are close to yours

I just honestly feel like there is a desire to create fairness in this system that will never be achieved. This game is about chance and strategy. Rats are undesired, but you can easily trade an omgsr rat for extremely rare items, and there will always be an item collector that’s okay with paying crazy amounts to finish their collection. It’s all about how you approach trading and you can’t force anyone to like rats or other unwanted creatures.

It seems like the common desire for “fairness” is to force people to pay certain amount for species they don’t like. In the same breath, the same people are saying that you should trade according to what pets you like rather than their “trading value.” It just doesn’t make sense to me. You can’t have both.
