too tired to answer all, but wanted to add a couple!

Do you still have most of the pets you adopted yourself in the beginning?
no, bc i was a dumb kid and adopted a bunch of my pets offsite LMAO
i still have a forum post showing some of them off here, if you want to laugh at me. look at that sunjewel mocking me

What do you miss about the early days? Also, what is something you enjoy about 2024 CS?
how active the forums were! when i was younger, back in the 2008-2012s, i used to use the forum mostly for art and roleplay. 2014 was such a fun year for me here - i got HUGE into jbds and other adoptables and really had an amazing time in those communities. i do miss how active things used to be here. i feel like a good deal of people have migrated to discord or their own websites, which makes me long for the old days.

Do you have the same excitement for the CS Advent event as when you first joined?
definitely not the same, but i do enjoy it! when i was younger i was OBSESSIVE over getting every advent outcome. i remember being devastated that i missed a day bc the place i was staying over christmas break had spotty connection. nowadays i just like logging in and checking out the new releases, though my childlike wonder has faded away for the most part (sadly)

Did you have better luck on 12/18 then or now?
now, i think. i got my first ur (a tiger dog) last year, and in the years before that managed to snag a few older 08-09 pups i'd been missing. still haven't gotten a current ur, fingers crossed!

Are some of your old friends still playing CS? Tell me about them.
not really! i have a couple friends i fell out of touch with, and wish i could reconnect with, but i don't know their usernames elsewhere and they no longer play here.
one was an incredible friend and artist, kaikennatsuki, and i wish i'd been able to get their info before they stopped using cs as much!
a couple others i still stay in touch with offsite, like on twt or discord, but most have moved away from cs as a whole.

also, a question for my fellow oldies because i was going through my files recently!
i know it's not directly related to the site, but i created my first fursona after seeing avian and was wondering if anyone else wanted to share :3

for me, we have fursona one, analoni. some of you may remember her, bc child me obsessively commissioned art of her and was convinced she was a unique design lol. her ~super cool~ necklace was inspired by avian, i was truly obsessed with the idea of feather on string for a minute there. she definitely was the start of my obsession with brown and white designs, though, because many of my sonas onward followed a similar color scheme.
my current fursona, grim, definitely shows that. while grim may have a lil more going on design wise, i do love that she's just a brown and white dawg at her base!

Aw, I feel like creating a fursona has fallen out of fashion TuT I swear everyone was making them way back when. There was even a fursona directory at one point!

what was your fursona like when you started cs? what are they like now, if you have one?
My old fursona was a siamese rabbit named Brea. My bff at the time said my personality best fit a bunny xD I was bubbly, hyper, flighty, and I also have a ton of siblings. Brea was very easy to color in design-wise, that was a nice perk since I had 1/10 art skills at the time.

Today my fursona is all designed by me. She's an australian shepherd named Snowflake. Blue merle. My favorite coat design ^^ I've also loved aussies since I was a girl. I get way less art of her compared to my first fursona. Unless I am misremembering, I think more art shops offered lineart color ins of user's fursonas. You don't see that offered now. Regardless, I love the little doggie <3

oh yeah, the art community on cs was the entire reason i made my own fursona and got into drawing in the first place! I kinda miss the amount of art trades i used to do back in the day. i feel like the art scene on here focuses more on getting new characters and adoptables and closed species, and less about have one or two characters that you hoard ridiculous amounts of art of.

what was your fursona like when you started cs? what are they like now, if you have one?

my first fursona on here was sarah(and her mate eddie). you can see lots of old art i got of them back in the day :)
actually, as long as we're bringing up characters i got art of from cs threads, there's also allita

my current fursona is enoch

Hey, I joined in 2012, I hope that's old enough for me to post here!

Do you still have most of the pets you adopted yourself in the beginning?

Yes, I do. At first I only adopted one of each pet. I don’t know why, but when I was a very young child I was afraid of being “punished” for being too greedy, and I tried to take as few pets as possible. I was literally less than half my age now, so I don’t really remember the mindset I had at the time.

What do you miss about the early days? Also, what is something you enjoy about 2024 CS?

Hmm, I’m not really sure. I guess I miss the connections I made with other people. I used to have a lot more friends on here than I do now, and I have trouble really connecting with other users. Everyone just felt really supportive and friendly back then, and I would make tons of friends.

I enjoy 2024 CS because of the quality-of-life improvements that have been made to the site/game (updates to how the Pound currently runs, interface changes, etc.) I also like that there is now a Lost & Found. I very distinctly remember there not being one in 2012, and wondering if there would ever be an item equivalent of a pound. I actually don’t remember when the Lost & Found was added; I believe I came back after a semi-long hiatus to find that it had been added.

Do you have the same excitement for the CS Advent event as when you first joined?

Probably not, if I’m being entirely honest. I still do look forward to it obviously, but I feel like I’m just more focused on getting every single pet and item as I’m more of a completionist now. Maybe I’ve not completely lost my sense of childlike excitement and wonder, but I’m definitely an adult now and I get sidetracked by stuff I have to do (in the real world) which takes away from my ability to fully enjoy the events.

Did you have better luck on 12/18 then or now?

I actually haven’t been on CS for December 18th since 2016, I believe. But I got a rerelease of the UR Grapes, which I ended up trading for a dreamie of mine. I feel like I’ve always had pretty good luck on December 18 though, except only one or two years at most.

What is something that has changed how you play CS then vs now?

I strategize a lot more now. I set up a C$ shop and I’m working on making an art shop. I did a few commissions back in the day, but I was still young and inexperienced. I also learned to interact with users more, which can be good for trading in the long run. I’m not sure when I became aware of the Free Adoptions board since I practically ignored almost everything except the pets, the C$ store, and the Pound for a long while. But when I found it, I made sure to make good use of it, and it has helped grow my collection by a lot.

What would old you think of your CS collection now or how you play CS now?

I have no idea actually. I probably wouldn’t get why I would trade pets at all (it took me a while to warm up to the idea of trading). I might have liked all the Malk pets I’ve accumulated over the years -- I used to really be into that. I now have a few pets that I used to desire back then, including a ‘10 Valentines Shima fox that I always wanted. I got it for 30 C$ which I think is a pretty good deal.

Are some of your old friends still playing CS? Tell me about them.

None. I lost someone dear to me that once had an account for a very brief period of time. I still have some of her pets that she gave me. I was thinking about putting them all in a group, but it’s just too painful to try and sort through all of them.

What was your goal on CS then vs your goal now?

I always wanted to get one of every pet and item on CS, and I still do!

Do you still have most of the pets you adopted yourself in the beginning?
Yes :D I'm very attached to the first of each outcome that I adopt myself

What do you miss about the early days? Also, what is something you enjoy about 2024 CS?
I honestly have no idea, because I was a kid in the early days and probably drove some people up the wall LOL but I had all the free time in the world and got to be everywhere on the forums that I wanted to be and I had a lot of fun! Nowadays I just pop in to see how CS is doing and adopt more pets even though I haven't gotten around to sorting my pets for over a decade (... yeah, over a decade) and haven't even fished out my dupes for trading in years lol...

Do you have the same excitement for the CS Advent event as when you first joined?
Yes!! I personally LOVE the winter (northern hemisphere) holidays in general and CS's Advent Calendar is no exception!

Did you have better luck on 12/18 then or now?
I think my luck has been relatively consistent haha always pretty decent, and only hit the jackpot one time; I say "pretty decent" because although I absolutely recognize the value of late 2008 and early 2009 pets, I... uh... personally adopted a lot of them.   if my account were younger then I'd probably think my luck is even better LOL

What is something that has changed how you play CS then vs now?
becoming an adult and starting to do real adult things lol

What would old you think of your CS collection now or how you play CS now?
oh man I can hear my young self now LOL "You're still not that close to a complete collection?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T HAVE TIME??"

Are some of your old friends still playing CS? Tell me about them.
I've seen some of my fellow Unicreatures and Unifaction users online a few times!

What was your goal on CS then vs your goal now?
Then: Complete collection
Now: I have no idea. Technically a complete collection but I have done nothing toward it for like 5 years LOL

what was your fursona like when you started cs? what are they like now, if you have one?
You know, it was actually a really big shock to discover that fursonas are not things that everyone has and that a lot of people will think you're weird for having one LOL having grown up on pet sites and adoptables sites, I was surrounded by people with fursonas, so I thought it was totally normal to have one (and honestly I still think it's totally normal to have one, just less in a "everyone has one!" way and more in a "what's the big deal if you have one? it's totally fine to have one" way). And I was a kid, so I made one literally just because it seemed like everyone had one LOL mine didn't have too much thought put into it, just a brown dog with simple cute markings in red, blue, and purple (my 3 favorite colors, in order) and a necklace and a bracelet, I think. And I have the inability to murder my darlings (characters), fursona included, so... even though I was considering making a new fursona when I grew older and realized I should put more thought into it, I never actually tossed my old fursona LOL (I never did get around to making a new fursona...)

Absolutely wild that we're coming up on CS becoming 2 entire decades old (April 2028... it's gonna be here before I know it), and then later in the same year, my account will be 2 decades old... A lot of the sites I was on as a kid no longer exist, since I never really got into most mainstream things (aka the things where it's not as surprising that they're still around after 2 or 3 decades)
Spread the word to end the word, because discrimination based on perceived or actual IQ/"intelligence" is no better than discrimination based on race, gender, etc.

Context, consistency, and clear antecedents are golden.
I neither read nor speak between the lines. But I will analyze your language.

this is kind of random but it just popped into my head out of nowhere after forgetting about it for years — does anyone else remember when the CS mods had a table at anthrocon 2012 with stickers and buttons and things for sale? Iirc there were plushies as well?? That was such a cute idea, I’d love for them to do physical CS merch again. I wasn’t able to buy any of the con leftovers that were up for sale on the site afterwards at the time sadly, but if it was ever a thing in the future I’d love to buy a keychain or a pin <3

    edit; I found some pictures…omg

I do remember c: I also remember being too young to go to any cons. My mama wouldn't let me visit some school friends if she didn't know their parents ^^; devastated lol.

I hope they bring physical merch back. I am an adult with money. I would love to spend it on my favorite hobby, CS. You can post your support for merch coming back here btw!

Same, the con (and most of my internet friends at the time) were in the US and I’m from the UK, so it was always a no from my parents lmao

Thanks for linking to that topic, I didn’t know that was a thing! As a fellow adult with money (who loves spending it on things I don’t need), this is a cause I can get behind. Running over to post my support rn 🏃‍♀️
