Do you still have most of the pets you adopted yourself in the beginning?
I think I do. I was trading for missing outcomes back then too. So some swapping of pets happened.

What do you miss about the early days? Also, what is something you enjoy about 2024 CS?
It felt new and exciting. You never knew what was going to happen. Examples like beginning events for the first time and getting staff birthday pets with regular pets.
I don't care if I get every outcome. I'm not as stressed out about trading pets.

Do you have the same excitement for the CS Advent event as when you first joined?
It's close, but not as new and exciting as the first event.

Did you have better luck on 12/18 then or now?
Back then we had less pets to choose from so I would say back then, probably.

What is something that has changed how you play CS then vs now?
I have most of the pets I want already. So I trade less.

What would old you think of your CS collection now or how you play CS now?
That's a lot of pets. Glad I'm not stressed out.

Are some of your old friends still playing CS? Tell me about them.
No, so many people stopped playing and it's not a small community like it was. I remember hearing about when tess and nick went to the USA Anthrocon to meet people and sell merchandise. That I don't think has happened since.

Forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1227417&hilit=Nick+and+tess+convention#p35408100

What was your goal on CS then vs your goal now?
Get any/all pets I liked the look and design of. Now I just play randomly for fun.

I do not. I mean, maybe? I joined back in 2008, hard to say. Probably not, though.

I miss knowing how to trade. I used to be VERY good at pet worths and how the main Rares List guide worked, people would dm me if trades were fair or not. Now? I'm old and I'm lost hahaha

What I enjoy: a lot of new beautiful designs and pet types! A platypus?! YES PLEASE!

I sure do! I was absent for many years, but still remembered to login for the event!

Hard to say! I've gotten Blue Balloons, advent dogs, and the UR fox... I think it balances out.

Goal was 2,000 Peapup litter dogs, and that's the same today.

@Placid oh wow, thanks for answering all my questions! What I am gathering is... you are CS retired hahahaha. I think you've earned it though.

I can relate to a lot of your responses especially relaxing in trading today. I remember 2010 was very high stress for me because I wanted every missed outcome and that was the era of rare outcome pps puppies  I will say, of all the old years, I did the best getting almost every pet in 2010.

I would say CS is still a small community. I see the same users. There is just no more admin involvement in the boards. Which is sad, and did make the community feel smaller but at the same time more alive.

This thread is so fun, I originally joined in 2012 and played up until 2017 or so when I quit and deleted my old account, so I’ve got twelve years on and off of nostalgia that I need to talk about lol. I’ve only just started playing again this week, it’s wild seeing how different the rarities and site economy are now. Anyone else remember when there were only like ten or so OMGSR pets?

    @BlueEyedKite
    Answered some of those questions!
    1. Sadly not, my old account is long gone and my pets scattered across the site :’) I love coming across people who have pets on their account they adopted like 10+ years ago and have hung on to all that time, it’s a rare sight.
    2. I was still a kid when I joined so I miss how much of a novelty everything was to me then, and how much easier it was to get certain pets/items. But the thing about starting from scratch means I’m more excited about trading for even very low rarity pets now because there’s so many I’m missing, so I like that.
    3. YEAHH it’s my first advent since 2018 so I’m looking forward to it!
    4. Hmm my luck has always been consistently pretty middle of the road when it comes to Dec 18th
    5. I’m trying to be around for as many pound/lost and found openings as I can now to build up my collection
    6. Old me would probably be dismayed at how small it is lmao
    7. I’m not sure! It was fun having CS friends, I remember we used to talk a lot on the Things That Amuse You thread
    8. Old goal was probably achieving the dreamies I had at the time, new goal is just collecting anything I haven’t got. Very chill in comparison

oh yeah, i remember this! i believe we were trying to artificially raise the demand on a dog that nobody really cared about. i remember finding my extras and putting them in a locked group in the hopes that if i waited a while to trade them this project would make them worth a bunch more.
i wish i could remember which dog it was. all i remember is that it was grey and red

I was thinking about this the other day! I actually went hunting through the archives for it out of curiosity to see if it was any rarer than its littermates and turns out it is, but not significantly so. It’s the one with red eyes in the blue blanket litter from October 2011, to answer your question.

Do you have the same excitement for the CS Advent event as when you first joined?

Yeah, surprisingly enough. The advent calendar is kinda a highlight of my year. It's become quite the tradition :)

What would old you think of your CS collection now or how you play CS now?

I think for the most part I'd just be shocked that I'm still active and playing CS. Before CS I never stuck with any adoptables site for longer than a few months. The fact that I'd been on here for over a decade is absolutely wild

What is something that has changed how you play CS then vs now?
What was your goal on CS then vs your goal now?

I used to really really want to collect one of every pet and item on CS. I think that's most peoples' goal when they first join tbh. Since then I've realized I don't get a lot of joy out of trading for old pets, so I stopped.
Instead, I mostly just focus on getting everything from the current event. I adopt the monthly pets but I'm mostly here to enjoy the easter, summer, and halloween events, as well as keep up my tradition of enjoying the advent calendar.
I do still wanna complete my item collection, tho! Mostly just because I'm so close haha
Also I have a few pet lines that are my favorites and I try to collect all of those, but they're not really high priority.

Oh yeah, that's the one! I remember now that I see it. Thanks for hunting that down, it was bothering me that I couldn't remember

Can I just say, I totally relate to this. I honestly think I have been spoiled lately. The new pet designs are dynamic, creative, immaculately rendered. By comparison xD I think the nostalgia glasses fell off for some old designs. Only this past year I have realized, I am good at not collecting them all.

Old me would be shook at how casually I am keeping up my collection  I really had the bug to get every single missed outcome every month for years on end. I don't have that energy nowadays.

    Ooh, survey lets gooo

Do you still have most of the pets you adopted yourself in the beginning? Mostly only from 2012-2016. I think I ended up trading a lot of the pets from earlier on. I did end up getting a lot of them back from my sister though. She used to play back then as well and never really traded, but has since lost interest. I got permission to have all her pets transferred to me. Really helped with my collection as she had a lot of 2010-2011 monthlies!

What do you miss about the early days? Also, what is something you enjoy about 2024 CS? I might sound like a boomer, but I liked how alive the forums felt before instant message/social media popped off! I do like following the various CS discords, but I find myself interacting with them less since it is very hard to catch up or join in on an ongoing conversation. We had some chats back in the day (FTT xat anyone?) but overall most stuff happened right on the forums. Part of it is because I have less time now to just have long conversations on the forums, but there is definitely a noticeable difference in forum activity then vs now.

    I also miss CS mall

I still really enjoy pet collecting, though, just as much as before! I may not have as much time as I did back then, but I'm still determined haha. The pet designs have only gotten better and better!!

Do you have the same excitement for the CS Advent event as when you first joined? Honestly, yes! The artist talent on CS has only gotten more diverse, and its so cool to see every artists designs just wow me year after year. Always some really fun designs. Also, Dec 18th always manages to heighten my heart rate which is exciting LOL.

Did you have better luck on 12/18 then or now? Contrary to most people, probably now!! I was lucky enough to adopt the new URs two years in a row in 2022 and 2023 (pps dragon and flower dragon). I was able to move them around for some profit to help with my collection. Hectic, but worth it. I've probably used up all of my luck for the next few forever years, though. But it's still very fun!

What is something that has changed how you play CS then vs now? I still hop on to trade and help just like before. Always loved the pet and the help side, and always will. I used to interact with oekaki a LOT back then, but I haven't really touched it since I came back. I went to college and got an illustration degree, so I am still very much in the artistic sphere. My style has just developed into something that I don't really feel is marketable on CS (I tend to paint concept art with horror/scifi themes mostly, I am out of practice with anthros and feral stuff oops).

What would old you think of your CS collection now or how you play CS now? I'd probably be really mad at myself for trading off old store pets that are now worth a ton!! But also impressed that I have amassed the amount I currently have.

Are some of your old friends still playing CS? Tell me about them. Yes, plenty!! I reached out to a lot of them when I first came back. Nadine, Celezon, Seasonal, Blossomtail are probably the ones most active still. But there are others that still pop on once in a while. I always love reconnecting. We've all changed so much and it's nice to catch up.

What was your goal on CS then vs your goal now? My goal was always a complete collection, and it still is now. I am a completionist at heart. I must have them all. Again, I'm still kicking myself for not keeping more old pets before I left, cause now I have to get them all again at like 10x the price. It keeps me occupied though. So far I have complete monthly collections from 2010-2024, all I have left are 2008-2010 and most of the URs and stores
I am not very active at the moment due to busy season at work. I may take time to respond to trades/messages.

No I totally get what you mean, it does seem quieter than it used to in the 2010s, I swear some threads used to move quicker. (god I’m one step away from ‘BaCk In My DaY!!!’ am I really that old already.) As someone who also kinda struggles to keep up in fast/1 on 1 conversations that’s something I appreciate about forum based sites; conversations can happen over several days and the open nature of forums means anyone can chime in so you’ll often be chatting to new people and getting a fresh perspective on the topic, or threads develop their own in-jokes among regular users and you end up having a little micro-community.

No, traded most duplicates before I had a grasp of the potential for future trading. The earliest I adopted myself were the Galaxy & Sorbet litters, one set remains of those original adopts still in my collection.

I miss monthly Malk designs from the early days. These days I love how the Pound works so much more fairly.

I’m positively ancient but still thoroughly enjoy the advent event. Advent item rerelease is exciting.

Much the same luck for the 18th really. The excitement of discovering the new URs and the mad scramble to trade for them is a buzz.

Completed regular & store collection earlier this year so maintaining collection is focus now. Also I’ve become more interested in items generally.

I’d be doubtful a complete regular & store collection was an achievable goal, but as the saying goes, you eat an elephant one bite at a time.

Only my daughter!

Complete regular & store collection (achieved) vs maintaining complete collection plus increasing items collection. Loose plans to complete items but if it takes another 10yrs, that’s okay!
