Awesome contest idea. I already have an idea, but now to convince my mom that it's a good idea for us to try. and how do you make smaller figures? We know how to makke big ones out of cake, but not small stuff. I've never even successfully made cookies before.

If you want to sculpt something like a human, or animal, I'd go with modeling chocolate. It allows you to have a firm hold, and you can also engrave details such as fur or facial features. However, if you are crafting something delicate, dainty, or fragile by any means (such as a flower), you should use gumpaste. It is a lot like fondant, except it is specifically for figurines and it holds much sturdier for delicate things.

Fondant is okay to use, but I, personally, would only use it to cover the cake. Fondant is made to provide a smooth, seamless cover that replaces frosting the cake. It is very unlike icing/frosting, however, which is a bit more sloppy. Fondant also takes a more experienced hand to work it, which is why someone like me is going to skip that step. >_<

when doing a design on your cake, does it have to be a dog already on CS to make it more CS style, or can we just design one? But use the basic shape of the CS dogs to keep it CS related?

I'm pretty sure that's only if it's not accepted. If you go you your submission page after awhile it will say is you were accepted.

Looking back at my cake plan, I'm going to need a lot of cake mix, and I'll have to do a lot of shaping to the cakes...

I'm super excited to have a challenge of my baking skills. If, of course, I have baking skills..? >_<
