Hopefully the change will be good overall. I think it'll take awhile to adjust to that most monthly adopts are likely to be very common instead of common though
Thought someone might be interested in some statistics. However these only take into account the pets in my trading groups, overall the change might look different.
All numbers are rounded off except for the rares.
Pets in my trading groups
Before rarity update
Omg so/very - 200 (Around 5 omg so common)
Common - 800
Uncommon 300
Rare - 67
After rarity update
Omg so common - 100 +100
Omg so/very - 600 +400
Common - 350 -450
Uncommon - 200 -100
Rare - 55 -12
Edit: adding a bit to this now when I'm not rushing to not be late.
That the "rarity" of my trade groups has mostly gone down was rather expected, considering most pets are from 2015-2019 and that those uncommons and common reduce one to two rarity stages makes sense.
The update makes it easier to see that newer pts aren't as rare since many people have adopted them making there be plenty to go around while older pets turn out to be rarer. I'm just "unlucky" in that my fodder is mostly newer pets.
I think the update will good though when everyone's adjusted since it's easier to see which pets are actually very common compared to rare.

this is a wonderful change! previously all monthly pets would just be common, with the occasional uncommon pps or something. sure I'm gonna have to reorganize my trade groups since I sort them by common-down and uncommon-up, but that's my own fault haha!

The diversification of the rarity labels was bound to hit mostly the newer pets from 2014-2018. Especially with what Tess said about the recount of active accounts.
Old pets, especially the bunch from 2009-2010, always had the 'problem' that they became more and more of a big mass of one and the same rarity, as their age/older users leaving the site made the original differences from when they were newly released even out a bit over time.
And indeed it looks like veeery few old pets got hit by a rarity drop. I just moved a good 300-ish pets to a rare+ group because all those 2010 and many 2011 pets went up to being rare.
It'll be nice that less experienced users will now have a more accurate idea of the value of their old pets, because I know I've seen many people trade those old previously uncommon pets for less than we knew they're worth.
I'm pretty happy with the changes that I've seen so far.
As an example, this litter started out entirely uncommon, but as I've been trading for a lot of them I know for a fact that I could encounter tons of them in any given trade group, and it was pretty frustrating to have to treat something as uncommon when all my common sense told me they really, really weren't that rare at all in comparison to other pets.
I think these are another great demonstration of how much better the rarities work now. You've got the whole range of rarities, reflecting much more reliably how rare each outcome is :D

Was wondering what the maintenance was for! Just checked my rares folder and you did not-- one of my rares went up to a very rare! I know it's technically the same but it feels so much more special now! A lot of my rares went down to uncommon but it's still a good update and much easier to determine rarities and values!
edit: another very rare oof
i did have a lot of uncommons knocked down to omg so common-common as well but still, much better for trading now!
