We need your feedback on an update to the rarity system!

four new rarities all day. i think itll make trading way easier as well as i would love to see all my pets with new rarities and see why some of my pets even being just a rare was so hard to get.

i personally dont think witholding the rarity of store pets is the best answer for that particular problem; the rarity bars show how many exist in total (in the case of store pets, how many were purchased and now in circulation). perhaps some kind of larger/more noticeable store symbol/word on the rarity bar would be better suited for those that have trouble distinguishing when a store pet is a store pet?

Maybe something like how PPS pets are labeled?

I believe store pets already have a label on them similar to PPS pets. :0 on every store pet usually near the "chicken smoothie" watermark, there is a little "c$" symbol indicating that it's a store pet.

i absolutely love the idea of adding new categories for the pets! specifically the 4 new categories. i always wondered why common pets got three categories for commons and the uncommon category only got one. i mean even rares gets three categories!
contrary to what many people think on here, i do think that it could potentially make some of the harder to trade for pets easier to obtain, to actually see that some of the rarer pets are not as rare as some think (though, the alternative could happen as well lol)
regardless, i’m really glad the staff is listening to the users! i’ve been on this site on and off through the years and i feel like specifically this year has been the most fun i’ve had ^_^

we actually already have a CS rarity guide found here: Forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4201164 ; this could potentially be expanded upon if it's something ya'll find isn't detailed or comprehensive enough. but that's a discussion staff would need to have, as we especially don't really want to have any official "demand" guide or things of the sort because that's a personal decision on a user by user basis.

I should clarify I mean an “official” guide as in not forum based. You know how you join some sim/web game, and there’s sometimes a tutorial pop up that explains where things are, what to click to do XYZ action, etc. I was thinking something like that would explain how to trade, what the rarity categories mean/are (could include the key that Space mentioned), etc. It would not list actual pets with the unofficial names, links to pets, etc. It wouldn’t be a “demand” guide nor include any opinionated perspective, as I explicitly mentioned. I mentioned this because several users mentioned how 11 rarity categories seems confusing.

I would absolutely be down to revamp that guide into more of a generic and accessible tutorial for understanding rarities, since a lot of the pet-specific information has been copied over into Horror's guide anyway and the rarity change archive is another great reference. I agree there should be something for whichever update goes ahead, that thread is probably a good foundation if an "official" site guide is off the table, at least.

I really like the idea of four new rarities! I know sometimes I tend to wonder how close an uncommon pet might be to rare (or with other rarities) and I think this will be very useful! (I also think the colors are quite nice, just wanted to mention it)

i don't really understand the graphs, does the y axis represent how many pets exist of that category? and if so, shouldn't it exist -only- in decreasing order from left to right? if there are fewer OMGSC pets than uncommon pets, then technically they are more "rare" than uncommons? why would uncommons be the most frequently occurring pet type, that would make them the most common? thanks

Notches in the bar will definitely be a help, but I want you to imagine the frustration of having to count notches in a bulk trade of 50+ pets because all the colors in the middle rarities look like the same shade of red/green and the font underneath the rarity bar is so small it might as well not be there. It is exhausting, especially on mobile.

This is a genuine question for you for feedback gathering: are you aware of the setting to turn off rarity bars that replaces them with text? Do you use it/has it been useful for you?
I have had them turned off for years for a similar problem so it's just good to hear what others with vision differences are doing!

Personally I don't use the feature, but yes I do know of it, and I'm glad it works for you.
The problem I have with the current 'text only' option is that it is purely textual and uses no imagery.

Having a 'text only' display as the singular alternative option for the rarity bars doesn't really address the issue that the bars themselves are unreadable to some colorblind/visually impaired peoples.

Images are more universally readable than text, especially when that text font size is not adjustable for easier reading, and or, in a language you might not be wholly proficient in.

In that text only mode, by having no inclusive pictorial option to use at all, the visually compromised person has to go through that much more effort to ensure a trade is fair. Since pets don't sort by rarity in a trade, and it is impossible to see all of a large trade on the screen all at once, each rarity must be either manually recorded or remembered, then rechecked and triple checked to make sure both sides add up fairly.

That is to say, a lot of hassle would be greatly simplified by comprehensive and distinctive visual indicators that could be quickly looked at, that -everyone- can easily read, rather than putting all the burden on the visually challenged person to laboriously sort things out each and every time because they are unable to use the current system as it is.

Especially now, when the admins are considering adding four more categories. It's even more important to make sure that if that's the choice that gets implemented, that it's a system that everyone can utilize equally.
