For an alternative to the ticks, what about stars that fill up depending on the rarity?
OMG so common - 0 stars
Extremely common - 1/2
Very common - 1
Common - 1 1/2
Uncommon - 2
Very uncommon - 2 1/2

Rare - 3 1/2
Very rare - 4
Extremely rare - 4 1/2

I'm pretty split but like the idea of the third option. There are pros and cons to doing this though. When more and more rarities are added it can become confusing or complicated for some people, although on the other end it gives us more variety and distinction among the pets rarities. Also if the rarity levels are focused more towards the Rare to OMGSR end this could help close some gaps in the trading for harder to get pets that are older as some can be very hard to get or hard to find. If the wording the rarity labels are different enough I think it might be able to be implemented.

Secondly, I'm also for adding just one new rarity but perhaps one over OMGSR or under that to provide more distinction for some of the older/store pets that have limited numbers. I think this would make for trading for these easier as they might get a more set value and then we wouldn't have to add so many new rarities.

Thirdly, I also think having events where older pets are rereleased more often could be beneficial (like with Dec 18th). Especially some way for older store pets to be rereleased in some manner. Then we wouldn't have to change the current rarity system as things may become more evened out as more of these older pets will be in circulation again even if by a bit to get these crazy demands down to a reasonable level for newer players.

+1 for stars, it was mentioned multiple times on my spectrum rarity display thread and I truly believe it is one of the most instantly understandable way to display rarity. It's also easier for the colorblind and visually impaired.

This would be a solution solver to the other person in this thread who pointed out the accessbility issue. Stars would definitely solve this, so I back this 100%.

Oh! I personally quite enjoy this. It's easier to see and process quickly compared to the notches

{I totally agree with Oddity, this is really easy to understand visually and I think it looks really clean. It fits perfectly with the old rarity dog litter from 2018 too :3c}
{I don't really have a stance on how to specifically update rarities. They definitely need to be reworked, and I'm certainly curious how pets would fall over four new categories, but I worry it would make an already difficult trading system more complicated :"0}

A+++ to this, makes it so much more easily understandable rather than having to count the notches every single time or look (and remember) the colors

I agree with the stars comment BUT it would be nice if we could choose to keep the original way aswell, in large trades I use color to quickly skim through them and the stars would just be too much on my eyes

I just BEG that if we had new rarities PLEASE make the colors very distinct from each other. Maybe consider adding totally new colors rather than different shades of what we have, especially with the orange and yellows. I sometimes struggle now to catch the difference, and if we add four more I worry I won’t be able to tell the colors at all 😰
