Appaloosa markings would be more spread out, and less jaggedy spots and not just clustered in specific areas. This boy looks more like some sort of Manchado, making him a very rare ^.^

It's very pretty for a manchado ^.^
What helps me with appaloosa is looking at references to figure out the spotting patterns. Appaloosa is still my least favorite marking to draw xp
