I've hated destiny 2 for a while. I didn't care about it. Didn't even play the final shape to give my veteran Exo Shepherd-18 a proper send off. I have long since uninstalled it from my PS5 and never looked back and busied myself with games like FFXIV and its raids. But hearing the announcement of its looming death made me sit back and actually realize how much I loved the game.

Spending time getting Whisper of the worm, my first last wish clear where I got 1k voices, doing scourge of the past and DSC, and drawing on CS about destiny 2. I loved the lore. I asked for the lore books for Christmas and they lovingly collect dust next to my computer. The exciting sleep before a new expansion. Simply bouncing around the EDZ when I had nothing to do. Need I mention zero hour? I used to watch my dad raid in Destiny 1 when I was little, then I found myself raiding in Destiny 2 when I was older telling my dad funny things that happened in my raids.

I loved destiny 2 so so much and made some of the fondest memories ever in a silly video game despite how much I distance myself from it now. It feels bitter sweet going through my gallery. It pains me to see its end.


But hey at least Taniks is as good as dead finally.

Nothing will ever make me feel the same joy and pain as Destiny 2. It's sad to see it end in the state it's in. It left its mark on me and I will love the lore and experiences of it forever. I only wish I'd been with it a little earlier to enjoy it at its best. Honestly, I think it should've ended sooner, with dignity, instead of dying in this drawn-out way, and things certainly could've been handled better throughout its lifespan. I won't deny that it's far from perfect.

But it also taught me how to let go of something you love. This is a beautiful farewell to the game.

I used to play Destiny so much with my old friends and even my dad too! We don't play as often now but it was definitely fun. We've collected so much over the years that still sits on our shelves❤️‍🩹

I don't think I've ever been so attached to a game as I have Destiny 2. I lived and breathed this franchise and it's had the honour of being one of my main special interests for... 10 years? Actually I think it's probably the one I've had longest. The lore books are my beloved possessions. I've spent my late teens and early adulthood with this game. It's like an old friend.

The music, the lore, the characters, the art design and environments. I made OCs and wrote countless fics and dreamt up expansive headcanons. The exotic weapon Coldheart that was my favourite go-to and most used weapon from beginning till end. The stupid "raid marathons" back when Leviathan was a thing where we'd try to do all the raids in a row and inevitably we'd all slowly leave to sleep. Numerous friendships made, some that drifted apart, and a few that are my closest friends today. So many memories that I can't remember them all except the fact that I love this game and the time spent playing it.

Sometimes I didn't play for several months. Sometimes I thought a change Bungie made was silly. I could make many critical comments about the higher management's decisions. Sometimes this game was a hyperfixation, sometimes it wasn't. But it was a constant and just always there.

I know it's not gone gone, and it's still playable with a "last hurrah" update to come but it's the end of an era. One can only hope Bungie is bunkering down for Destiny 3.

oh wow this hurt the heart. Ill forever cherish the memories I made in the crucible and raids with my friends. Even the solo playtime that I found so relaxing. I quit playing years ago but it really was one of my favorite games :c

Feel the same way, man. Stopped playing right after Forsaken came out for several reasons, partially because I saw the writing on the wall and knew it was going to keep getting worse. Tried to go back briefly during Season of the Wish, just wasn't the same game. Now Bungie is axing it for Marathon of all things? Hm. I'm sure that will go well.

Congrats on the feature and thanks for sharing your thoughts! I am sad to see the end of an era for a game I used to love.

I've been playing daily for almost 7 years now and the news is incredibly hard... Even after most of my friends have moved on or stopped playing for one reason or another I've found it difficult to leave the game behind. I have had my guardians in my signature for years now, and I don't expect I'll be removing them any time soon. This is a very touching piece of artwork that I was so glad to see on my front page :)
