In the Hunting Grounds, your cats can brave the wilds — tracking prey, facing predators, and uncovering long-forgotten secrets. Send a lone wanderer or a seasoned patrol: their journey could lead to riches, ruin, or the unknown.

But don’t worry — death is strictly optional, and only applies if you’ve chosen to opt in.

Below, you’ll find everything you need to begin your patrols.

    [ PromptsStatsPatrolsLevelsDeath RollsQuick StartWriter’s Guide ]

    RULES

➤ You may only send one patrol per week, and your previous patrol must be rolled and results posted on the thread before posting another.
Exception: If your patrol response includes an optional mini-scenario, you may reply to the mini-scenario without waiting a full week or posting a new patrol. Responses to mini-scenarios do not count as a new patrol and do not allow changes to cats or stats for that patrol. Once the writer responds to your mini-scenario choice, your patrol is considered complete, and you may then post a new patrol—provided at least one week has passed since your original patrol post.

➤ You may not send kits on patrol.

Max of 3 cats per patrol. Only linked cats on your form will be rolled for.

➤ You can unlock the ability to send multiple different patrols per week based on your Clan Level and the total number of cats you own:
➥ At Level 3 with 6+ cats, you may send two different patrol types per week.
➥ At Level 6 with 10+ cats, you may send three different patrol types per week.
➥ Patrols must each be a different type (e.g., one hunting, one border, one herb). You cannot send multiple patrols of the same type in a single week.

➤ Your first three patrols are completely free! No hunger or health loss will apply to any of your cats during their first three explore posts, giving you a chance to test the waters without penalties. Use this time to learn the system, grow your clan, and get comfortable with the mechanics. After these three patrols, normal hunger and health loss rules will resume

➤ Do not post a new patrol unless a writer has clearly stated they are open to claiming patrols. This helps ensure all posts are responded to in a timely manner and prevents clutter during periods when writers are catching up.

Ah, greetings. I’m Mayflower, but you can call me May.
I travel alone, though I once called a clan home. These days, I listen to the forest and tend to what needs healing.

Each moon, I offer a small task, something to guide your paws and quiet the heart.
If you're willing, I’d be glad for your help.

Use these prompts to develop your clan or character lore and earn rewards. They do not count toward your weekly patrol limit. To claim a reward, note which prompt you're completing (and your reward choice, if applicable) at the bottom of your post. Please wait for a writer to confirm before using any rewards.

JUNE MONTHLY PROMPTS

You may complete multiple monthly prompts per moon, but each prompt can only be claimed once per user per month. Monthly prompts refresh at rollover on July 1st (0:00 CS time).

➤ Every cat has something that makes them unique. A habit, a skill, a dream, a scar, a personality trait, or perhaps something they have struggled to accept about themselves.

Have your cat take a moment to reflect on what makes them who they are! What part of themselves are they the most proud of... and why?

[+15 CR or +1 stat point to CHA]

    Requirements: 150+ words

➤ The clans have decided to hold a rare gathering focused not on politics or territory disputes, but on celebration. Cats are encouraged to share stories, songs, artwork, hunting or fighting techniques, traditions, history, and accomplishments with one another. For a single evening, differences are set aside in favor of community. Must be the warm weather and plentiful prey that has put everyone in a good mood.

What does your cat choose to share at the gathering? (You could tie it to the prompt below to tell your cat's story if you'd like!)

[+20 CR or +1 Willowisp Dust]

    Requirements: 250+ words

Bonus: If tied into a patrol post, earn an additional +25 CR.

➤ A traveling loner arrives at the gathering carrying a satchel filled with a variety of goodies, such as colorful ribbons, feathers, flowers, polished stones, and other trinkets gathered from distant places. They offer to create a keepsake for any cat willing to sit and tell them a story.

Create your keepsake by choosing one option from each category below.

    Color
    A) Red
    B) Orange
    C) Yellow
    D) Green
    E) Blue
    F) Purple

    Adornment
    A) Feather
    B) Flower
    C) Bead
    D) Polished Stone

    Meaning
    A) Courage
    B) Friendship
    C) Hope
    D) Loyalty
    E) Love
    F) Adventure

How to Claim: Reply with your three choices (example: B, D, F).

    [+25 CR or +1 Lumidrop]

Bonus: Sketch your cat's keepsake to earn an additional +15 CR.

SEMI-PERMANENT PROMPTS

These prompts are always available, but may only be completed once per user unless stated otherwise.

➤ Describe in 500+ words or draw a map of your clan’s territory. [+25 CR]
➤ Describe in 500+ words or draw how your clan leader earned their nine lives. [+1 Uncommon edit (Willowisp Shard) or +50 CR]

SOTF • Stats

Postby winx » Tue Jun 10, 2025 5:13 pm

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Image

➤ Each cat has 10 core stats ranging from 1 to 100. These influence patrol outcomes and activity results.
➤ Cats grow stronger and more skilled with each patrol, and their stats are carefully tracked in the Archive.
➤ First-generation cats can receive their stats in one of two ways. You may choose to manually distribute 200 points across the ten stat fields, or you can let a staff member randomly roll each stat between 1 and 50. Rolling has the potential to total up to 500 points, but luck will determine the outcome; your cat might end up stronger or weaker than the manual option. Select your preferred method using the form below.
➤ Second-generation and beyond cats inherit their stats from their parents. For each stat, a number will be randomly rolled between the two parents' values, allowing offspring to fall anywhere within that range.

STR — Strength (physical power)
AGI — Agility (speed and reflexes)
END — Endurance (stamina and resilience)
SWM — Swimming (ability in water)
CLM — Climbing (ability to climb trees and cliffs)
FGT — Fighting (combat skill)
HERB — Herb Knowledge (ability to find and use herbs)
CHA — Charisma (social influence and negotiation)
STL — Stealth (ability to move unseen)
LCK — Luck (chance-based outcomes)

SOTF • Patrols

Postby winx » Tue Jun 10, 2025 5:13 pm

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Image

OUTCOMES & PATROL MAKEUP

➤ Outcomes vary based on patrol makeup:
➥ Solo cats: Increased risk (−8% success) but greater personal gain (+25% CR). Best for high-stat or specialized cats.
➥ Duo patrols: Balanced teamwork (+6% success) with improved training results (+15% SP). Great for steady growth.
➥ Trio patrols: Strong coordination (+12% success) and greater experience (+15% XP), but loot is shared (−10% CR). Safest option overall.

➤ Cats on patrol may receive:
➥ Crystals
➥ Prey and/or herbs
➥ Stat points
➥ New clanmates
➥ Injuries, scars, or illnesses
➥ Death — if opted in

PATROL TYPES

➤ Each patrol type emphasizes certain stats. Cats with strengths in these areas are more likely to succeed, earn better rewards, and avoid harm. While each patrol typically emphasizes certain stats, any stat can potentially come into play—though some are much less common. For instance, a fight might unexpectedly arise during a herb patrol.

Hunting Patrol — AGI, STL, END, LCK, SWM, CLM
Cats use agility, stealth, swimming, and climbing skills to track and catch prey in varied environments. Endurance helps them maintain long chases or treks, while luck may determine what or if they catch anything.

Border Patrol — STR, FGT, END, CHA, STL
These cats defend the clan’s territory from rivals and threats. Strength and fighting skill are vital, but endurance, stealth, and charisma can shift the tide of confrontation or open chances for diplomacy.

Herb Patrol — HERB, STL, END, LCK
Gatherers rely on herb lore to identify plants, stealth to avoid danger, and endurance for long travel. Luck can lead to rare finds or unexpected events.

PATROL MECHANICS

➤ Each cat on patrol rolls a d100 against their relevant stat(s). If the roll is equal to or less than the stat value, it’s a success!
➤ Difficulty modifiers apply depending on event (e.g., +10 difficulty for large prey).
➤ Results can include success, failure, injury, discovery, and more!
➤ After base outcome is determined, patrol size modifiers (solo/duo/trio) are applied to adjust success chance and rewards before finalizing.

HUNGER & RATION POINTS (RP)

➤ Hunger (HGR) represents your cat’s energy, stamina, and overall nourishment. Cats grow hungrier after each patrol and must eat to stay in top condition. Left unfed, hunger can weaken them, slow recovery, and eventually lead to health loss and increased risk on patrols.
➤ RP can be found during patrols, as rewards for leveling up, or obtained through trade with other players. These are used to restore lost HGR.
➤ Managing RP effectively is key to keeping your cats healthy and ready for challenges.
➤ Your cats will lose -10% hunger per patrol. This hunger loss only applies to the cats sent on that patrol.
➤ If a cat reaches 50% hunger or below, they will lose -10% health every patrol they go on until they're fed enough RP to increase their hunger above 50%.
➤ Cats consume RP to lower hunger, recover from injuries, and maintain strength during sickness. If a cat is injured or sick, maintaining hunger above 70% will increase their health 10% each patrol.
➤ When feeding your cats, remove the prey items from your inventory and place them in the “Any prey/herbs/items used and on which cat(s)?” box of your explore post. Make sure to update your patrollers’ hunger accordingly in your explore post.
➤ You can split a prey item between multiple cats. For example, if your cats catch a large mouse worth 10% RP, that 10% RP could restore 10% hunger for one cat, or be split to restore 5% hunger for each of two cats sharing the prey.
➤ The amount of hunger that each earned RP can reduce will be indicated in the writer’s response to your patrol. The writer will determine the RP value based on context—for example, a mouse might be worth 10% RP at one time, but only 5% RP during Leaffall when prey tend to be leaner and harder to catch. You must keep the RP value of each prey listed on future patrol forms in your inventory.
➤ If you want personalized prey and predator options, then you must list them in your patrol form below. Otherwise, writers will decide their own prey and predator interactions with each reply.

HEALTH & HERBS

➤ Health (HP) represents your cat’s physical well-being and survival. Cats can lose HP from predator attacks, border patrol skirmishes, accidents, untreated illness, and severe hunger.
➤ If a cat’s HP drops to 0%, they will either die (if death is enabled) or become too injured to patrol until healed with herbs.
➤ Herbs can be found during patrols, as rewards for leveling up, or obtained through trade with other players. These are used to restore lost HP.
➤ When healing your cats, remove the herbs from your inventory and list them in the “Any prey/herbs/items used and on which cat(s)?” section of your explore post. Be sure to update your patroller’s HP accordingly.
➤ You can split a herb between multiple cats if the amount allows. The amount of HP each herb restores (or removes, if poisonous) will be indicated in the writer’s response to your patrol.
➤ You must keep the HP value of each herb (how much it heals or harms) listed on future patrol forms in your inventory.

PATROL FORM

➤ Use the form below to send a patrol. You may only post a new patrol after your previous one has been rolled.

➤ You’re welcome to include multiple clans in your lore, but only one patrol can be active at a time across all of them. For example, if you have two clans, you cannot send one patrol for each at the same time—only one patrol total may be out at any given moment.

➤ You may be creative with your form as long as all the key information below is listed.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Image

➤ Your clan(s) earn experience points (EXP) by successfully completing patrols. Each patrol awards a base amount of EXP plus bonuses for significant achievements.

➤ When your clan levels up, the writer will include any RP and herbs earned, along with how much hunger and health they restore. Be sure to add these items and their effects to your inventory for your next patrol post. Stat points will also be included in your level-up rewards — you may assign these to any of your cats as you see fit.

➤ Writers may award items from the Shop at their discretion, but rewards should correspond appropriately to the user’s current level. For example, a Level 1 reward should not include a legendary item. If you’re uncertain whether a reward is suitable, please consult with fellow staff members.

Level 0 — 0 XP — Starting level
Level 1 — 100 XP — Rewards: +1 RP, +5 Stat Points, +10 CR
Level 2 — 200 XP — Rewards: +1 RP, +1 Herb, +5 Stat Points, +15 CR
Level 3 — 300 XP — Rewards: +2 RP, +1 Herb, +10 Stat Points, +25 CR
Level 4 — 400 XP — Rewards: +2 RP, +2 Herbs, +10 Stat Points, +50 CR
Level 5 — 500 XP — Rewards: +3 RP, +3 Herbs, +15 Stat Points, +75 CR
Level 6 — 600 XP — Rewards: +3 RP, +3 Herbs, +15 Stat Points, +100 CR
Level 7 — 700 XP — Rewards: +4 RP, +4 Herbs, +20 Stat Points, +125 CR
Level 8 — 800 XP — Rewards: +4 RP, +4 Herbs, +20 Stat Points, +150 CR
Level 9 — 900 XP — Rewards: +5 RP, +5 Herbs, +25 Stat Points, +200 CR

SOTF • Death Rolls

Postby winx » Tue Jun 10, 2025 5:18 pm

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Image

➤ Death is off by default to keep the stakes low. Opting in increases risk — but also offers greater rewards:
Double XP gain
Increased crystal rewards
➥ Adds a risk of death by: Predator encounters, border skirmishes, uncured illnesses, accidents, and HP dropping to 0%
➤ Revive (Heartseed) and immortality (Everbloom Crown) items are available in the Shop.

➤ When submitting your patrol form, you can also choose whether to allow injuries and scars. Selecting "yes" opens the door to more dynamic outcomes—your cats may suffer minor injuries or gain scars, and in rare cases, they could lose a limb, ear, or tail. Significant injuries like these will be added to their official image as a new drawing beneath the main form, preserving their evolving story.

DEATH OPT-IN / OPT-OUT FORMS

➤ Link your opt-in post when sending a patrol with death enabled.

To opt out (may only be posted after 3 patrols are completed since opting in to death):

SOTF • Quick Start Guide

Postby winx » Tue Jun 10, 2025 5:18 pm

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Image

Welcome to the Hunting Grounds! If you’re new or just need a refresher, here’s a step-by-step walkthrough to get you exploring in no time.

    STEP 1 — GET A CAT
Before anything else, you’ll need at least one cat in order to explore. You can get one in a few different ways:

Once your cat is accepted and added to the Archive, you’re ready for the next step!

STEP 2 — GET YOUR STATS
Stats influence how your cat performs during patrols. You can request stats for your cat by posting on this thread using the Stat Roll form.

    First-gen cats can either:
➤ Distribute 200 points manually across 10 stats
➤ Or request a random roll, which can total up to 500 points based on luck

STEP 3 — YOUR FIRST PATROL (FREE!)
Once your cat has stats, you’re ready to explore! Just fill out the Patrol Submission Form and post it as a reply in this thread.
➤ You may only have one active patrol at a time
➤ For your first three patrols, your cat will not lose hunger or health
➤ You may send up to 3 cats at once
➤ Choose a patrol type: hunting, border, or herb gathering
➤ Include stat info and any inventory details if you’ve earned items already

Note: If you forgot your cat’s stats, you can always check the Archive for a reminder!

Writers will respond with the results, including any prey, herbs, injuries, XP, or events your cat encountered!

➤ Mini-Scenarios: Writers may include optional mini-scenarios at the end of patrol responses. Users may reply to these scenarios without waiting a full week or posting a new patrol. Responses to mini-scenarios do not count as a new patrol and do not allow changes to cats or stats for that patrol. When responding to mini-scenarios, users have two options:

➥ Option 1: Do not respond to the mini-scenario, wait one full week from the original patrol post, then submit a new patrol.

➥ Option 2: Respond to the mini-scenario right away, but then must wait for the writer’s reply to that mini-scenario before posting a new patrol — even if one week has passed since the original patrol post.

Once the writer responds to the mini-scenario choice, the patrol is considered complete, and the user may post a new patrol if at least one week has passed since their original patrol post.

STEP 4 — UPDATE YOUR CLAN
After your patrol is rolled, make sure to:
➤ Record any prey or herbs you found in your clan inventory
➤ Feed or heal your cat if needed (using RP or herbs)
➤ Track their hunger and HP
➤ Apply any stat or level-up bonuses given in your results

    STEP 5 — PATROL AGAIN!
Once your previous patrol has been rolled, you can send another one if a week has passed since your post.
As you level up and adopt more cats, you’ll unlock the ability to send multiple patrols per week!

Still have questions? Feel free to message a staff member or post in the thread. We’re happy to help!

SOTF • Writer's Guide

Postby winx » Tue Jun 10, 2025 5:18 pm

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

➤ Step 1: Read the post & confirm the basics
      ➥ Patrol type: border
      ➥ Cats on patrol: 1
➥ Stats eligible for border patrols: STR, FGT, END, CHA, STL
      ➥ Deadly events enabled: Yes
      ➥ Scars/lost limbs enabled: Yes
➥ Has the user used up their free patrols? No, this is 1/3 free patrols. Health and hunger will not decrease, so disregard deadly events and scars/lost limbs.

Birchstar is healthy and the post is 350 words long → qualifies for +20% reward bonus (301–500 words).
(Note: Word count bonus applies only to XP and Stat Points, not Crystals.)

➤ Step 2: Roll for Encounter Type
➥ Use a d100 roll to determine encounter category for a border patrol.
➥ For example, I rolled a 79. According to the border patrol table in section 1, Birchstar will receive a hostile encounter.

➤ Step 3: Choose Stats to Roll
➥ Writers should choose at least 2 stats, up to all stats for that patrol type, to roll for each cat on the patrol.
➥ For this encounter, I'm going to choose all 5 of Birchstar's eligible border patrol stats:
        → STR: 48 / FGT: 31 / END: 35 / CHA: 9 / STL: 7
➥ Next, I roll a d100 for each of the chosen stats which determines if Birchstar is successful or fails against the current scenario.
        → STR: 42 = SUCCESS / FGT: 84 = FAIL / END: 25 = SUCCESS / CHA: 12 = FAIL / STL: 62 = FAIL
      ➥ Successes: 2/5 → 40% success rate

➤ Step 4: Interpret the Roll Results
➥ Using the success % table in section 3 of the Patrol System Guide linked above, a 40% success falls under the Mixed Result outcome.
➥ In a Hostile Encounter with Mixed Result, you’ll:
→ Narrate some kind of tense or dangerous event
        → Consider minor injury roll
→ Give moderate XP and SP
→ Since death is enabled and it's hostile, roll injury and illness chance

➤ Step 5: Injury/Illness Rolls (JUST AN EXAMPLE, does not count for current patrol post since this is one of Birchstar's free patrols)
➥ Because it’s a hostile encounter, success rate is <50%, and deadly events & injury are enabled, you would typically roll a d20 for injury/scars and/or illness and compare result to tables in section 7:
→ Roll a d20 for injury. Let’s say: 16 → Minor injury (HP loss, light setback)
→ Roll for illness. Let’s say: 11 → No illness

    ➤ Step 6: Determine Rewards
➥ The encounter type sets the base reward; the outcome tier adjusts how much of that base is granted. See section 5 for reference.
      ➥ The base reward for a hostile encounter is 30 XP / 5 SP / 25 CR / Large prey/herbs.
➥ Adjust for mixed result outcome tier, –10 to –20% XP/SP/CR.
        → 30 XP * 0.8 (100% - 20%) = 24 XP.
        → 5 SP * 0.8 = 4 SP.
        → 25 CR * 0.8 = 20 CR.
➥ Apply word count bonus (+20% for 350 words; applies to XP and SP only):
        → 24 XP * 1.2 (100% + 20%) = 28.8 XP, round to 29 XP.
        → 4 SP * 1.2 = 4.8 SP, round to 5 SP.
→ Crystals remain 20 CR (word count bonus does not affect CR).
➥ If death is enabled for this patrol, double the total earned XP and Crystals.
        → XP: 29 * 2 = 58 XP
→ SP: 5 SP (SP not doubled)
        → CR: 20 * 2 = 40 CR
➥ The writer may decide what prey, herbs, or crystals are found during the patrol, as well as assign appropriate RP (Ration Points) for prey or HP (Health Points) for herbs. For example, Birchstar will find a rabbit on their border patrol, worth 2 RP — enough to restore 20% of a cat’s total health when used.
      ➥ Total reward: 58 XP, 5 SP, 40 CR, 1 rabbit worth 2 RP

➤ Step 6: Fill Out the Encounter Roll Template (This is completely optional for writers — you're welcome to track your outcomes however you prefer. I just wanted to provide a convenient template in case it’s helpful. You can find the blank version in Section 10. Below is a completed example based on this scenario.)
    Code: Select all
    Patrol Type: Border
    Patrol Members: Birchstar
Modifiers: Word count bonus (+20% XP & SP only)

    [d100 roll for encounter: 79]

    Encounter Type: Hostile Encounter

Stats Rolled: STR, FGT, END, CHA, STL
    (Roll based on patrol type)

    Roll Results:
    Birchstar: STR 42 ✅, FGT 84 ❌, END 25 ✅, CHA 12 ❌, STL 62 ❌

    Success Rate: 40%
    Outcome Tier: Mixed Result
(Outcome Guide: Major Success 75%+, Success 60-84%, Mixed 30–59%, Failure <30%)

    Narrative: (see above)

    Rewards:
    +29 XP
    +5 SP
    +25 CR
+1 Prey Item worth 2 RP (Rabbit)
(Check if XP gain causes a level-up and apply level-up bonuses if needed.)
(If death is enabled for this patrol, double the total earned XP and Crystals.)
(Major Success bonus: +10–20% bonus XP, SP & CR, plus possible extra items.)
(Word count bonus applies to XP and Stat Points only; Crystals unaffected.)

    Injuries/Scars:
Minor injury — Birchstar loses 10 HP (DOES NOT APPLY AS BIRCHSTAR'S FIRST PATROL)

    Illness:
    None

    New Clanmates:
    None

    Death:
    Not triggered

    Notes:
    - Word count bonus applied (+20% XP & SP only)
    - Injury and HP loss noted for user to update (DOES NOT APPLY AS BIRCHSTAR'S FIRST PATROL)
