Deep in the Neskoze mountains live powerful beings called Ispilu
These dragon-like creatures have lived deep in these mountains for centuries, on clear nights the humans of nearby villages could sometimes see their mirrors reflecting the dim light. They possess the ability to see into the past and very little into the future using the powers bestowed upon them by the gods through their mirrors. The mirrors on their foreheads allow them to see the true intentions of any human they encounter. They are seen as symbols of wealth and power and are treated like equals. No one owns an Ispilu, instead the lspilu will choose a person that impresses them and decide to hang around.

Cracked/Broken Mirrors
The mirror of an Ispilu is the way they get their magic. An Ispilu simply isn't an Ispilu without their mirrors, but just like any regular mirror, an Ispilu mirror can break too. Although they are stronger than the mirrors humans can produce, they aren't indestructible.

What happens when a mirror breaks?
An Ispilu is still able to live with a broken mirror, in most cases, but they may have weaker magic or in some tragic cases lose their magic altogether. Weakened magic isn't an issue on a physical level, but it can really take a toll on an Ispilu's emotional state. Without their magic they can no longer see the intentions of humans, nor can they predict the future. This can cause great confusion for the dragon. They've always been able to see what humans want, and it can be startling and scary to not know anymore. In some cases this loss of ability has driven some unfortunate dragons into insanity.

Why No Square Mirrors?
To understand the square mirrors we must look back into the past, long long ago to the first group of Ispilus

There once was a dragon who had a square mirror, his name was Birsha. Unlike the rest of the dragons who could see the true intentions of humans, Birsha was greatly limited. His mirror was only able to detect the deepest, darkest thoughts of the humans he encountered. No matter what human he came across he always saw their evil "intentions'' He didn't understand why all the other Ispilu were so kind to these clearly evil beings.

He swore that he would put an end to the evil creatures that walked the earth with them. Birsha made a plan, rallying up a few of the less kind Ispilu for help. There was a plan to attack the nearby human village at night and slaughter them all so they may never plague the Neskoze mountians with their evil again.

Luckily the eldest, and most powerful, Ispilu, Mystra, heard about this plan the night before. If Birsha were to carry out this plan it would spell disaster for all of the Ispilu kind. Mystra was a kind and sweet woman, but she knew what she had to do. She came to Birsha and struck him down, shattering his mirror into a thousand pieces. In order to prevent him from causing any chaos she imprisoned him deep within the mountian.

Legend has it that if you listen to the wind howl on a cold night you can hear Birsha's growls of revenge in the air
