Erasthenes shot a glare at his younger sister. "I know! But I just want to find out what this is!"

He'd never seen such a peculiar phenomenon. A strange cold had descended upon his homeland, bringing with it white stuff that floated down from the ground. And the pond... The pond had gotten a sheen on it overnight that Erasthenes had never seen before.

He was determined to figure out the mystery of why this was so. And with his tongue as his primary tool, Erasthenes was certain he would be able to crack this case.

Erasthenes flicked his tail over his sister's mouth as he peeked outside. There were indentations in the layer of white covering the ground, leading away from their hillside cave home. With luck, his parents wouldn't return until he was finished with his exploratory escapade.

Making his way to the pond that lay just a few tail-lengths from his home, Erasthenes paused at the edge. When he tested it with one forepaw, Erasthenes found that it was hard and cold to the touch.

Alright, time to put his sleuthing skills to the test. Erasthenes used his long tongue and swiped it over the surface of the pond.

Or, at least he tried.

When his parents returned an hour later, they found their son weeping by the edge of the pond, his tongue firmly stuck.

It was then that Erasthenes learned the name of this substance.

Ice.

Demeter didn't see an issue with what he'd done. He hadn't understood something, so he'd done his best to learn everything he could about it. How could he learn everything if he didn't try to taste it? It seemed like such a simple conclusion, and the farmer wasn't sure why he was the only one who saw it.

"Demeter, I understand that you wanted to learn more," Perseus said, looking like he'd rather be doing anything else than having this awkward conversation, "but you can't just go and lick someone, especially the Oracle!"

The black lion just frowned at his friend, still failing to understand what he was saying, as the victim of his curiosity, Delphi, kept a comfortable distance away from him. "I don't see what I did wrong."

"If you have questions about me," Delphi said delicately, far more delicately than Hades had when she walked in and saw Demeter attempting to lick the Oracle of the Mountain Pride. There had been quite a bit of screaming and cursing of some of their previous kings and queens as she stopped Demeter, "you can just ask. You don't need to lick me to understand; you won't understand anything about a lion by licking them, except that most lions don't appreciate being licked."

"I still don't get what I did wrong," Demeter repeated, and Perseus shrugged helplessly as Delphi breathed an amused sigh. "Seriously, what did I do wrong? And what's so funny?"

Toi stared at the creature with intense curiosity. He had never seen anything quite like it before. It was small and had a band of black and yellow striped going down its body. It flew from flower to flower, not paying any attention to the lion lurking over it.

He tilted his head slightly as his long green toungue approached the creature. He touched it, noting that it seemed kind of fuzzy. The poor creature buzzed in reaction. Toi felt its wings try to move, but it was stuck to the tip of his toungue. The creature buzzed more violently, moving further across the toungue. Toi suddently felt a prick on the egde of his toungue, followed by a violent sting.

"Mow!" he eclaimed, spitting the small creature out of his mouth as he stepped back. He stumbled around a bit, his toungue gradually swelling up. He saw it had some bumps it didn't usually had and had swollen up, making his toungue to large to fit back in his mouth. He tried to touch the toungue with his paw to comfort himself, only to find that touching his toungue made it hurt more.

"Bthat hurths". he muttered. Toi stopped, a little surpised with himself. He found it strange that he couldn't talk as well as he usually could.

He managed to find his way back to the pride, later learning he had encountered what the pride called a 'bee'. Apparently beesget angry when licked (or touched in general).

My apologies for the long wait! It seems that although I went through all of these competitions and noted down winners in a document on my computer, I accidentally forgot to actually post on the threads. I'm so sorry for that!
