Hello there! Welcome to Saukko, a brand new species that's been
in the works for just over a year. Even though it isn't necessary,
you may find it helpful to read the lore down below. However, if
you're a little short on time, just the rules will do. Thank you for
stopping by, I hope you have fun while you're here!

☾ You may not make your own Saukko, this is a closed species.
☾ You may gift, trade, or readopt Saukko, but you may not sell
them for any type of currency. When rehoming your Saukko in
any of the ways listed above, please contact me so I can update
the archive.
☾ As of now, you may own up to twenty Saukko. This
includes customs and those obtained from nursery batches.
☾ There is lore for Saukko, however, you can choose for
your Saukko to live in an au if you wish.

What exactly is a Saukko?
Saukko are a rather odd mix of an otter, ferret, and feline.
They are excellent swimmers and have smooth, slick fur
that water can easily slide off of, as well as allow them to
move faster in the water. These creatures are relatively
large, but usually don't grow any larger than your average
serval. Trees are a common home for them, but it
varies with each clan, which you can read about down
below. As for their diet, it mostly consists of fish and
berries. Behavior-wise, Saukko are very playful and
mischievous. They love to play tricks, and if their territory
is invaded by another clan or by a predator, they will often
scare off the intruder using pranks and traps. Saukko are
also extremely flexible and agile.

Five clans live on the island of Saajia. Vesi, Puu, Maa, Luola, and Pilvi. They are each unique and essential in their own individual ways. Although they do not always live in peace, the clans try to keep their distance and live their owns separate lives. They have been around for generations upon generations, humans never touching the small island due to thinking it was uninhabited and had little resources. Storms often hit the island, especially on the coast, and the days are often hot and humid. Saajia gets quite a bit of rain, which helps keep the freshwater river flowing. The Saukko, except for Pilvi, have many different stories of where they came from. Some believe they've just always been. Others say they migrated from another land mass in order to escape human population of their habitat. Still, others believe their water-breathing ancestors came up from the ocean and discovered land was more habitable. Some don't think anything of it and want to focus more on the present.

The Saukko are an interesting species. Below, you will find information on all five clans.

Vesi Klaani
(Water Clan)
Leader
The oldest and most populated of all the clans, members of Vesi live
on the lush banks down east of the river. The area is overgrown with
with bushes and greenery, providing good cover from predators and
shelter from the weather. They feed almost entirely off of fish, as
it is in great supply right inside their territory. However, they do
feed off of berries and sometimes other vegetation in order to
keep a healthy and satisfactory diet. Vesi often compete the most
with tree clan, who always seems to find themselves in Vesi
territory. They also populate part of both sides of the east river
area, as access to each side is easy to swim to.

Puu Klaani
(Tree Clan)
Members born into Puu live high up in the treetops, above predators
and other intruders. It is quite safe up in the tangle of branches,
but hungry birds and the dangers of falling threaten their daily life.
There is a complex structure that these Saukko have built into the
trees made out of wood and branches in order to create a sort of
sky-high city, complete with platforms and bridges from one tree
to the next, even carving out holes in the trees to sleep. They
mostly eat nuts and berries, as well as sap, and occasionally venture
down to the nearby river to hunt for fish. However, they must be
cautious of their rivals, Vesi, however, who aren't too far upstream.

Maa Klaani
(Ground Clan)
Living on the ground is a dangerous choice, as predators hunt in the
forest. Saukko in Maa must be careful and have a well-guarded
camp. However, food is abundant for them. These Saukko have
branched out in their diet, not confining themselves to fish. With
Puu and Vesi dominating the river, members of Maa must go hunting
for other sources of protein. They eat more meat and are better at
hunting than any of the other clans, dining mostly on small rodents
and bugs. Berries are a go-to when prey is scarce, however. Maa
also tends to suffer frequent attacks from Luola Klaani.

Luola Klaani
(Cave Clan)
Leader
Probably the most secluded of all the clans, Luola live deep inside
a cave that has several winding tunnels. These are good for confusing
wanderers and trespassers, and there have been very few attempts
by any of the clans to attack Luola. There is a sparkling pond down
one of the tunnels where, strangely enough, many fish thrive. If the
clan gets sick of fish and need some variety, they may venture
outside in search of other food. These Saukko have adapted so they
can see very well in the dark, however, they do tend and keep fires
in the caves so they can see well. This clan has the most history
of violence and dominance, and they can be quite difficult to get
along with.

Pilvi Klaani
(Cloud Clan)
Leader
Pilvi is definitely a strange bunch, believing that they descended
from the sky and were sent to the earth to bring peace to all. Some
can be rather arrogant, believing they are godly beings and that
they deserve the royal treatment, but most are actually very kind
and humble, so don't be too quick to judge if you come across one.
They live in a large, open clearing and live carefree lives. Because
of this, they are very easy and open to an attack. If one had a
reason to pick a fight with them, that is. Some Pilvi are
messengers, carrying reports and news between clans as well as
letting the other clans know of any major events. They believe in
the good of all. Well, most of them do, anyway.

To Staff...

Staff members, if active, will receive a One Rare Trait Custom each month. In order to earn this, you must complete at least three adopts/nursery batches in this month-long period. If you will be inactive for whatever reason, please let me know so I don't think you just disappeared for whatever reason, haha. You may stack your staff customs for a maximum of four months, however, you may only have a max of three rare traits. If you decide to save it for four months and combine them all, you will get a myo with one very rare trait, one rare trait, and unlimited traits underneath.

Artists...
1) You may make up to two uncommon adopts a month. Any other adopts you make must be either common or standard. Rare adopts will be made every fiftieth adopt, and we will discuss who gets to create it beforehand.

2) Every Saukko must have a clan marking, and only one. It is almost always on the left shoulder, which is the one facing you. If you wish to put it anywhere else, please ask me first. It may be any color you wish, but it may only be one singular color. The marking is a tattoo that the Saukko is given at birth, and is how they are accepted and considered as a member of the clan.

3) Be sure to number the adopts, and double...no wait, triple-check that the number you put is the correct one so we don't have any issues with the archives.

4) You may conduct your competitions however you wish. They can be raffles, impress-me, gif comp, naming comp, responding to a prompt, etc. Get creative!

5) If you will be inactive for whatever reason, please let me know.

Mods...
1) It is your job to answer questions and hand out warnings on any thread (main, nursery, customs, etc.) when needed. You are my rule enforcers.

2) If you don't know the answer to a question, PM me or let someone else take care of it!

3) As for your staff custom, it will be judged differently than the artists. I will decide based on your activity, ability to handle issues, you know, things along those lines.

4) I can't restate this enough, if you will be inactive for any reason at all, please let me know.

As a guest artist, you get a one month trial in which you get to make four adopts maximum. One may be uncommon, the rest must be below uncommon. Once the month is up, staff will vote on whether or not to keep you on as an artist! To become a guest artist, you must make entries on the artist search.
