Woodland Saber Drafts

Fanclub - Breeding thread
Old Thread
Originally found and bred on a small farm located on a thickly forested remote island, these large drafts have slowly been exported to all countries of the earth. They have been dubbed 'Woodland Saber Drafts' or simply 'Sabers' for short. Though often found to be intimidating in size or by their large set of tusks, Sabers are remarkably gentle. They are an extremely intelligent bred of horse who are very in-tune with the emotions of creatures around it. They are often found to cuddle with those who are upset, play with those who are happy or try to distract those who are mad with silly antics. Saber's are very friendly. Most requiring a friend of some kind whether its a fellow saber or a friend of another species. Though they get along with almost anything, they have a severe and innate fear of all primates. It is advised to keep them away from any and all primates otherwise their gentle disposition as been known to turn destructive and panicked in their presence.

    Rules:
*This is a closed species, meaning you can not make your own
*Do not claim the species as yours
*You can not sell, give away or gift your Sabers away

*You can not edit or change the original image or design
    *There is no ownership limits
*Each Saber can be bred a total of 7 times and only bred to other Sabers
*You can take your Saber where ever you wish
*They are to remain as Sabers and not transferred to any other species or humans
*All known Drafts at this time are Domesticated, owned by humans.
*They are labeled by anatomical parts on forms, but owners can develop their (already adopted) Saber to have any sexual identify or gender.

Species Information

    Appearance:
Woodland Saber Drafts are large stocky horses, ranging from 16hh to 21hh, with powerful muscles. Their sturdy bodies make them an excellent candidate for pulling work. Their large bodies make for ungraceful jumping and clunky running. They posses cloven or split hooves, these allow them to easily navigate any kind of terrain as well as allowing them to dig into the earth for better grip. One of their most remarkable and noticeable features is the long set of tusks which resemble canines. The tusks are found to be extremely sturdy and while not used for defense, Saber's appear to use them to mark territory and attract a mate. They're ears are curled towards the center of their head.
Woodland Saber Draft's manes and tails can grow to be very long, however when first shipped out they are trimmed to be short. It is encouraged to keep them short as these large equines adore getting messy which quickly results in large painful mats. It is up to the Saber's owner whether they wish to keep them short and trimmed or take on the tremendous task of keeping their manes and tails untangled and clean.

    Behaviour:
Sabers have been described to be over grown dogs due to their personalities. They are gentle giants, aware of their size and power. Meaning that they are conscious of how much force they use when playing with something smaller then themselves. Because of their gentleness, many places have begun to use them in therapy work. They have an innate love for working and often get sad when not given some kind of job or activity.** Being that they are very social creatures, most require a companion of some kind in order to be happy. Companions do not have to be fellow Sabers.
They are extremely territorial. Herds can consist of any number of stallions and mares, however they will only tolerate their own herd within their boundaries. Territories are marked by rubbing their tusk against trees, posts or anything else they can scratch up. It's encouraged to have a decent amount of trees surrounding their pastures...otherwise you'll be replacing fence posts and even part of your barn from all their scratching.

    Colouration:
Woodland Saber Drafts are found in a wide variety of natural horse colours. Almost no colour is not seen, though some like solid white, black and roan are rare to see. Each one carries the genes for white markings, therefore, it is very rare to see one of solid colour. Birdcatcher spots are common to see, sometimes they are the only white found on the animal. While white markings are to be expected on each Saber, Appaloosas are virtually unheard of. While not impossible, something about the appaloosa markings seem to be connected with fatal birth defects. Therefore, almost all Appaloosa marked foals unfortunately perish within the first week of life. Chimeras have been known to occur without danger to the resulting foal.
Sabers have a unique gene that can result in small patches or spots of a darker colour on their coats. This gene results in either no spots, a couple spots or a lot. It has been observed to common to have some number of spots.
Eye colours have been known to range the rainbow, but specific colours have been documented as rare. Such as red, white, purple and pink.

    Diet:
Woodland Saber Drafts are strictly herbivores. They will happily live on grass, hays, grain and fruits. Most prefer a varied diet consisting of different kinds of hay and fresh fruits. They enjoy sweets such as molasses, peppermint candies and sugars. Sabers are known to get extremely sick and even die if fed anything outside of their herbivore diet; i.e meat, fish, diary.

**This is a average temperate of the species. Personalities can swing in any direction and are not limited to that.
