What is an Aduiri?
The Aduiri ( Pronounced AH-DU-EAR-EE) are a very elusive, cliff dwelling race. Aduiris are nocturnal creatures that create nests on the sides of cliffs overlooking various oceans and seas, though some have been spotted in various deserts. though Aduiris live in the cliffs, they use the oceans below to cool off , and to hunt fish and shelled shore creatures. They also hunt small game atop the cliffs, and when game is scarce, they have been known to dig up and eat insects.
The Aduiri are equipped with sharp talons, which aid their climbing abilities. They have three tails, used for balance on the windy cliff sides, and can be used as exceptional propellers in the choppy waters. They also have webbed toes, and little fins on their hind legs to help them swim too. The Aduiri have several spines along their neck, which are used to protect themselves from predators. These spines are very venomous and can cause paralysis and death in extreme cases.
Male Aduiri have a single horn on their snout, which is used for defense and sparring for Females. Aduiris have forked tonges, and are cold blooded creatures (while they are nocturnal, they do come out to 'sleep' during the day to stay warm). . They range in size by age. Young Aduiri's are about the size of a chameleon, while elder aduiris can range in size (by gender) from a fox, to a lynx. Though, it is rare that they grow that large.
They have a particularly long lifespan. the oldest recorded Aduiri was 80 years of age, and still considered to be fairly young. Aduiris mate for life, but should a mate die, they will seek out another mate. Though this is the case, They do live in colonies of about 10-15 Aduiris. And in these colonies there is a single leader -either a matriarch or a patriarch. The matriarch (or Patriarch0 will not choose a mate for live, rather will produce offspring with the Aduiris they find to be the fittest and most likely to continue strong genes. Males use their horns to spar with other males atop the cliffs to contend for females. Males also have brightly colors tails and are significantly brighter in color than the females.
Both genders will have markings along their bodies, normally in a series of dots and stripes with an additional unique marking somewhere on their bodies. Reasons for these markings have not been discovered;however, witch doctors, medicine men, shamans, and voodoo folk hold these creatures as sacred (or fear them) due to their tribal-esque markings and are said to hold an ancient and dormant power.
Both genders may have unnatural colored markings, and at night they are said to give off a soft glow.(Some may have dual colored markings, though it isn't common. maybe 3 out of 10) Aduiri's are more often than not natural colored. it is extremely rare to have an albino in their colony. They lay eggs to reproduce. The incubation period for Aduiri eggs are about two weeks (human time) . Due to the harsh enviornments, it is rare for more than one egg to survive.
