You can say something like "My milky way kit was friends with a lot of other kits when he was younger"

you CANNOT say "My milky way it's best friend was steve" if "steve" does not exist. As in, there is no Milky way kit named Steve at all.

Its a bit confusing, but I hope this kind of cleared it up for you.
