.: I Want A Mustang! :.
Username: The One & Only Vapor
Have you read the front page?: Yes, I have! <3
Will you pick up this mustang on the 22nd of June?: Of course I will! I wish, in fact, that it would come sooner! qvq
Will you train this mustang?: Absolutely! It'll be super fun to practice my art skills and such <3
What are some of your training plans?: sorry this is gonna be really long okay
So the first thing I would do is allow the horse its own space. I would leave it alone, making minimal contact other than feeding and watering, to allow it to become accustomed to its surroundings. After about a week of this, I'd begin taming the horse. I would use the method in which you work your horse on a lunge line in circles, driving it away until it accepts your dominance. It's amazing how effective this trick is, and this plus a few other trust exercises makes me guess this will take only a week and a half or so.
After my dominance is established, I would begin light training. There will be tons of work on the lunge line, getting the horse used to bits and saddles, and lots of carrots and apples in between. In particular I imagine I would use the trick of weighting the saddle with a bag of sand to mimic the weight of a rider on my horse's back.
During the course of the beginner's training for my still-green horse, I'll be assessing its personality a lot. Is it cheeky? Energetic? Playful? Lazy? I'll try to find out, based on its likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, where it would best be suited in the competition world. I imagine the beginner's training will take a bit less than a month to a month to complete.
Continuing to the intermediate training would be the next step. In the beginning, I would train a bit where the beginner's course ended- starting to ride the horse. I would get it completely accustomed to me riding it, then begin the intermediate training- walk, trot and canter. I'd start by doing each exercise, from ground poles to serpentines, and all the while doing trust exercises to keep the horse bonded with me. For instance, there's the "around the world", done tacked up or bareback- turning around on your horse so you're sitting backwards, and then back again. At the end of intermediate I'd hopefully be done assessing my horse and begin its training for its future career. Again, it would take a month or so to complete.
The last month will be consumed by advanced training, where I'd do whatever necessary to prepare the horse for competition- barrel racing? Gymkhanas? Showjumping? Dressage? Whatever it was suited for, I'd do. This would take up the remainder of the time.
edit ;; actually i think this is too long oops ene
