good afternoon / morning everyone! I am happy to announce baltic huskies are now open, and our welcoming event is beginning to kick off! : )

before that, please welcome honeybunchesofoats and conversett to the staff team!

conversett will be joining us as a welcome committee member. not only do they have experience with baltic huskies before, but they are someone with great prior experience as well! i have no doubt that they will excel with everyone here. so, before she begins welcoming you all in proper fashion, lets give her a big welcome and congratulations!

you also may notice I'm pinging oats here again: due to her hard work with the huskies archive, its been decided that she would do best upkeeping it. she is not only familiar with all of the dogs currently in the archive, but due to being able to communicate with me easily to resolve any conflicts, it makes it easier for us to quickly solve anything. so, please give her a congratulations on the additional staff position! she will be here still as a welcome committee member, so you'll still see her in the chat - she will just have a more behind the scene role as well now!

thank you everyone for your continued patience and understanding, as well as your enthusiasm! we could have not done any of this without you. we're very happy to present our new welcoming event, something old owners may be familiar with! this will be a rendition of one of our former popular events, except a lot easier - additionally, this time you get a chance to adopt dogs that never got an owner! so, if you had a readopt doggie who did not have a home, keep an eye out ; )

Hello Hello agian!! I'm Oats for those of you that don't know me already. I've been in the species Welcoming Committee since the beginning of the new lines thread but I'm happy to announce personally that I am also on the team as your archivist now!! That being said the archives are completely up to date so feel free to check them out! If you notice that anything needs to be adjusted or changed pls feel free to PM me here or DM me on discord! official transition + guide ahead

with all these changes, you may be wondering, whats new? is there anything I should know? how do I understand all of this?

important changes
the main changes implemented are with the systems! adoptions and the kennel clubs remain the same, but everything else has been given some love!
- the breed itself has more bloodlines added in, as this will allow more flexibility with genes AND allow you to do more stuff aside from just sledding!
- as such, new genes were implemented, such as fur genes! mutations are still being added as we go, but we've made some updates to the base genetics every husky will have! : ) it not only allows for some cool combos but some new genetics!
- founders were added! while these will be closed until the end of the event, but anyone who wants to get their feet into the community will be able to get a starting founder to kickstart their kennel! this is helpful for anyone who has tried to get a baltic husky, but does not have one yet.
- a shoppe has been implemented, as well as specific transfer and custom threads! these will not be open yet as our artists are working hard on the event, but now you will be able to purchase items such as customs and have your purchase go directly towards new things for the species!
- the title expo is perhaps the biggest change. old baltic husky members will recognize that we have ditched the old sledding races, and instead implemented an around the clock competition thread! this functions at a base of rolling to see how good your dog does, and if your dog does well enough, you rank up and get a new title (with some prizes as well)! no one is forced to participate in this, but the requirement is just a submission of a form. anyone who does extra such as art/writing will gain bonus points, but this way people who do not have as much time will still be able to participate! more information about this located on the title expo thread!
- the archives have been completely redone! honeybunchesofoats worked quite hard for many hours making sure we had a functioning archive. not only is it up to date in ownership, but it also is up to date in numbers! many dogs were incorrectly numbered, so these are all fixed - while some v1 dogs may have the same numbers as v2+ dogs, each dog now has its correct number! yay : )
- the bank has also completely been redone! it is hosted on google docs, and now instead of spending 10 minutes trying to search to find your items or how much currency you have, all you do is just... put in your info. and thats it! legitimately, that is all you need to do. once you type in your information, the bank will pull up any records we have of you! : ) its easy, its simple, its free, its putting your socks into the creek
- the discord has been completed and redone completely! now we got some nifty roles and some nifty channels! we welcome everyone to join, if not for the special perks but for the fun! : )
- breedings are currently the only thing that is not implemented or open right now. they will, hopefully, be open in the future - however, as our main focus is getting the initial adopts set up, breedings are to be treated as nonexistant for the time being!

of course, these are all helpful notes for old members. however, I know we have a lot of new members too! some people may be unsure how any of this works, so this might help with learning the way of things here and how baltic huskys are run!

new users guide
- baltic huskies are a cs based adopt! the main adopts are free to adopt, and the only time you would ever need to pay for anything is if you were to purchase something extra, like a custom, from the shoppe! however, you will still be able to win cool items for free, so this whole thing is not just 'pay to win' or anything like that. anything made from the shoppe will be put towards baltic huskies itself, such as getting new nursery lines! : )
- in order to adopt, you need some form of storage thread dedicated to baltic huskies (or dogs in general). typically, this is called a "kennel" and is something every baltic husky owner needs! for more information, you can look at the kennel club section on kennels here: Forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=4331178#p130351670
- adopting a dog is incredibly simple! look for an open dog (likely a dog without a harness) and follow the competition rules. every competition will ask for the base same information about the dog: the kennel, and name! but what exactly is a name?
- baltic huskies typically have two names. a "show" name and a "call" name. the show name is typically a longer, unique name. think of this like how your full name is something used for legal stuff, but its rarely someone ever goes "first middle last name" informally. show names can be whatever you want, they're just supposed to be so that if we have three dogs named morgan, we can easily distinguish between them! only one show name can be used in the whole species, so each one has to be unique! this typically isn't used as much, its mostly an identifier for titles + a place to get creative. you can look at examples in the archive!

the call name is just what you would "call" the dog. I wouldn't call for my dog by saying "1000 degree knife" but I can call him jay, since that is his name I "call" him by. consider this just a nickname or a name you'd use every day for your kiddo!
- once you adopt, you can do as you please within species rules! you are free to develop your kiddo, draw art of them, talk about other husky owners with them - including put them into species events or expo competitions!
- what exactly IS an expo competition? to put it shortly, it is an around the clock competition where you submit your dog in a sport! you can find more information about the expo on the title expo forum!

if you are an older user who has some sort of overdue custom, or a breeding that was never done, or anything that was promised underneath the old ownership but was not fulfilled during that time - please reach out to me privately! I will be happy to honor everything that was promised in the past, including overdue breedings. please pm me so we can discuss specifics if this includes you! : )

this, theoretically, should be everything - this thread might be quiet for a little while as we begin with our welcoming event, but we hope to see you all around! stop in, enter for the raffle, maybe try out for some dogs - whatever you would like!

however, before I end my last message about the changes and set up, I would like to say: thank you.

I never would have imagined baltic huskies coming back the way they have, not only with the amount of support but with the hard work being put into them. none of this would have been possible without you guys! this sounds a bit cheesy, but this species would have never been made public again without the support and love from all of yall. I'm very excited to get this species up and running, even if it required being built from the ground up again! from both the staff and myself, thank you for your patience and understanding with us while we set everything up.

good morning everyone! more announcements for today!

for those in the discord, you might have noticed that honeybunchesofoats has lost her purple color and has been given the blue admin assist role. as you also may have noticed, our co owner yeena has unfortunately had to resign. as of late yeena has been struggling with some real life troubles, and unfortunately did not have the time to dedicate to baltics. out of respect for everyone, she resigned so that I could have someone else step up to the plate. however, we wish her well and hope she enjoys her next adventure!

that being said, oats is getting a promotion! she will be filling in an admin assist position - oats has been helping do a lot of the set up work, as seen with the archives she did from scratch and all the work shes done to fix errors, so now she will be helping the community in an official capacity. her role is unique in that she has all of the admin permissions, but she will not be doing any moderating outright.

all this means is that oats has all the capabilities I do, but that she won't be the one to directly step in with any moderating issues - she will, however, be the one helping guide things behind the scenes or helping make important decisions if I am not there! she also will be retaining her positions as archivist and welcome committee member, so no need to worry about her not greeting everyone <3 please give her your congratulations!

I am also making another exciting announcement: Luxio will also be joining the team! lux will be starting a trial moderator position beginning today. I know we are very happy to have them, and I know they are super happy to be helping yall! while we haven't had any issues, if you ever do, please now feel free to also reach out to lux should you need anything moderator wise <3 in proper fashion, please give them a big welcome!
