TL;DR wrote:Void thinks a lot, then the five cats leave their camp.

𝓥𝓸𝓲𝓭

Some months had passed, and the place where Void had thought to make his solitary home had grown into a place where several cats now lived. After meeting Honey and Nico, more newcomers had joined them, and they were so many now that there were not enough caves for everyone to sleep separately.
Honey had kitted and her kits had grown into apprentices already. Stella and Misaki, also new faces who had joined him and the others in the clearing a while ago, already pregnant, had also given birth, their kits already out and about and getting in other people’s business. There were now seven kits and four apprentices, filling the silence that had filled the forest only a season ago with their joy and games.
One of the new members of the group, Pattern, had taken over the cave in which Void and Akemi had previously stored their herbs, and transformed it into an herbalist’s den. From there, they assisted the queens with their kits and healed minor injuries the cats had gotten during explorations or hunts. Pattern had told him that before joining with the group, they had lived in a clan, a concept alien to Void. They had told stories of leaders and herbalists and deputies and warriors, making Void’s thoughts swirl.
Still, he had had to admit that some degree of organization would prove vital if they were to keep on expanding and growing, and with Akemi at his side as the most senior group member, he had installed ranks.
He himself was to be the commander, Akemi had been crowned his deputy, and Pattern the herbalist. In his opinion, a division of the others into sentries and hunters would also become necessary at some point in the near future, since already they were too many to take everyone on patrol.
All in all, the cats living in the caves numbered twenty. He had never imagined, when he had first fought his way through the bramble barrier, that one day all the caves and the entire clearing would be brimming with life.

Today, Void planned on heading out himself, leading a small patrol through the territory on a search mission – he had had a dream that had deeply unsettled him, and he needed to check something.
It had been a few nights before, and like any other day he had been nestled in his den, rolled into a tight ball to keep warm, when suddenly he had heard a voice calling out to him. A voice he had not heard in a long time. It had been his sister. He remembered leaping upright, leaving the cave in a flash, and stopping outside, listening with a tilted head for the voice to call him again. It had come from beyond the barrier, but when he had tried to fight his way through, the small path they had cleared was gone and the thorns and vines were woven tighter than ever. Desperate, he had tried to claw at the brambles, but every time he slashed through one, two others had appeared in its place, slowly ensnaring him until he had noticed that there was neither a way forward nor back. He bucked and thrashed, but the vines grew ever closer, holding him in place. His sister’s voice was still calling out to him when he woke up shivering, the scent of wisteria inexplicably clinging to his fur.
The last few days he had been pretty busy with helping to care for the kits and expanding the camp so he had not had the time to investigate his dream, but today Akemi was taking care of any needs that could possibly arise among the cats back in the camp, and he would be able to lead a patrol for the first time in quite a while.
He by himself would have had no idea where to start looking for the source of his dream, but Misaki had told him when they had shared a mouse the day before that, when she had arrived, she had passed a wisteria tree emitting the same sweet scent he had told her about. It lay quite some ways out of the territory they had so far claimed for themselves, but with all the new hungry mouths they had to feed, it was only sensible to clear and explore some new hunting grounds anyway. That was also what he had told the other members of the patrol, who were assembling in the clearing after having eaten breakfast. Only Akemi knew of his true purpose, as likely did Misaki. He had told the queen about his dream, and she had shot him a knowing look when he had announced his patrol in the morning.
He did not mind her being aware of his plans, though. He did not want to unsettle his camp mates should his search prove fruitless, but Misaki had understood his dream and he trusted her not to spill his secrets.
With a shake of his head, he reminded himself to stop overthinking everything so much and hurried to join the rest of the cats that were waiting for him near the bramble barrier. With him, they counted five – Tips, a tiny, scarred tom with a jarring scar, his apprentice, Cinder, son of Honey and Nico, already proving to be on the best way to become a powerful fighter, Honey herself, out of the queens’ den for a while now and eager to make up for the time she had been unable to train and hunt with the rest of them, and lastly Sparrow, Cinder’s sister and apprentice to Pattern, with them to point out herbs that would be life-savers in the paws of the two herbalists.
He smiled at the others, raising his voice to be heard over the shrieking kits that were playing on front of the queens’ cave only a few cat lengths away from them.
“Today, we’re going to explore a bit further than we’ve ever done before. We’re growing and we can’t afford to hunt everything that’s left of the prey if we want to survive longer than just this winter.”
“Why?” Cinder interrupted when Void paused to take a breath. “Why can we not hunt all of the prey if we get hungry?”
Void blinked at him. The young cat asked a lot of questions, a trait that he valued, but he could rarely wait until the appropriate time to ask them. Honey next to her son sighed, but Void answered anyway.
“Because we need there to be some prey left so they can reproduce. If we hunt all the mice there are right now, in spring there will be no new mice born, and we will starve because we were too greedy.”
Cinder seemed to think for a bit. “Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks!”
“So anyway,” Void continued, “we will be travelling beyond our borders and see what is there that we could hunt or claim in the future today. I hope the weather holds. Remember to stay together once we arrive in unknown territory and let me know if you spot anything. Okay?”
The others nodded at him, and with a satisfied flick of his ears he led them out of the camp.

Lone Campgrounds
Hemlock and Foxglove trotted through the warm forest together, both felines going at a slow stroll, tails intertwined while they both purred quietly. While Hemlock kept their senses alert for prey, Foxglove seemed to be in her own little world like always, eyes glazed over slightly while she scanned the area for herbs and pretty plants.

The two lovers had gone out into the forest together for a casual stroll and relaxation, though perhaps they could find some food or medical aid while out. The sun shown brightly amongst the canopy, and the sing song of birds beckoned to them.

Hemlock and Foxglove scanned the trees for life. It was such a beautiful day, there had to be some prey to find. They travelled downwind as to not be revealed, and caught the scent of a mouse. Working together they caught it with ease, careful not to alert any nearby animals.

As Gull fretted around Sunny, Ash wracked his mind, trying to remember what herbs were good for what.
He picked through what they had - a few long stalks of rush, some leaves of dock, some leaves of borage, a few tormentil stalks, some wild garlic, and some water mint.
His eyes rested on the watermint for a few heartbeats, before he grabbed it and rushed outside.
Gull looked up, eyes wide.
"Can you fix her?"
Sunny scoffed; she was hardly broken like the two toms were making it seem like, but the two other cats ignored her.
"I just remembered, that watermint you picked up on the way back? It helps aches."
Gull's eyes sparkled.
"Eat it! Oh Sunny eat it now!"
The she-cat sighed and rolled her eyes before scooping it up and chewing. She made a disgusted face and Gull spoke.
"Here, let me get something to wash that down with." Before trotting away and grabbing a vole for Sunny and himself, and the last few scraps for Ash.
The three ate in silence before settling down in the cool sunlight.
Time passed before Ash got to his paws again, he judged the position of the sun and realised it was time for their evening patrol.
"Sunny, are you up to coming?"

Poppyclan
Cloverspark shut her eyes and breathed deeply in the crisp leafbare morning. She shook her fur quickly, scattering dewdrops around her, catching the light of the pale dawn sun. She yawned widely, groaning and stretching. She HATED mornings. Too bright, too early, and much too obnoxious. She was hungry though, so hunting it was.

The fluffy molly crept out of her hollow beneath the gnarled roots of a large cottonwood, pads stinging on the frozen ground and a thin layer of snow catching under her claws. Ugh, her claws ached, she wasn't built for this weather. At least her fur was mostly white, a small blessing that would hopefully make the difficult task of hunting in the snow a bit easier to manage.

Cloverspark sniffed the air, scenting for an unlucky creature to become her breakfast. She quite wanted a vole, but she'd take what she could find. Prey would be scarcer after the storm anyhow.

Her stomach grumbled loudly, and for a moment Cloverspark thought of her old food bowl from her time with her twoleg, never empty and nestled in the corner of the warm kitchen. She shook her head and grimaced. It may have been convenient, but a bowl full of kibble wasn't worth the price of her freedom. No, she'd hunt for herself, hard as it may be, and live unconfined in the wilderness the way she had always known she was meant to.

Bringing her thoughts back to her next meal, Cloverspark climbed the rise before her until she has a clearer view of the landscape, a large meadow edged with towering trees and bramble thickets, set against a backdrop of cliffs and peaks.

Scanning the clearing, Cloverspark decided there would probably be good chances of prey near the base of a thin, leaning pine with thorny tendrils growing up its side. It looked like a decent place to shelter from the snow at least, and its definitely where she would want to be if she were a delicious little mouse. Hah, she would be the most ferocious mouse in the forest, scaring away cats and foxes alike with her terrifying squeaks. If she were a mouse, that is. She may be small, but she was a bit more menacing than a rodent. Hopefully.

Ugh, she needed to stop daydreaming. A mouse could have run right beneath her paws and she wouldn't have noticed a thing, distracted as she was.

Twitching her ears, Cloverspark began making her way towards the tree, refocused on her hunt and licking her lips at the prospect of a good breakfast.

“Stop pretending I almost died,” the she-cat answered, though she was rather amused than irritated. Rolling her head from her right shoulder to her left, she purred contentedly. “It still feels a tiny bit sore, but it’s already gotten better.”
Gull to her right looked at her with worry in his eyes. She flicked his nose with her tail.
“It’s really all good, I promise. Let’s go!”

Ash led the way and Gull and Sunny followed him side by side. She was happy the three of them worked so well together and felt like she was able to trust the other two with her life. Particularly Gull, if she was honest with herself. She wasn’t sure what it was about him, but it was fun spending time with him. He always seemed to try and stay at her side, chatting with her about all things that came to his mind, and it was fun listening to him. She was glad she had found two good friends in the two toms that were her tribe.
Right now, he was trying to tell her about some interesting new hunting techniques when Ash lifted his tail and hissed for attention.
“If you paid closer attention to your surroundings instead of trying to impress Sunny, you’d have noticed there’s a mouse somewhere close,” their leader meowed, amusement twinkling in his eyes.
Gull smiled at him apologetically, then winked at Sunny. “Allow me to demonstrate.”
Sunny blinked back, then watched him vanish between some dried ferns that lined their path. She exchanged a glance with Ash as they waited for the tom to come back.
There was a flash of grey between the grass, then a rustle and a squeak, then Gull came back with the mouse between his teeth, his head held high in pride. Sunny made sure he heard when she purred, feeling he would appreciate her praise.
[+2 FP, +1 Mouse, +2 XP]

As they continued through the territory, they passed a bush of lavender. The flowers had long dried off and died, but still they took a few stalks with them to see if they could be useful in the future.
Close to their home, Ash also decided to take a small, straight stick. It might prove useful in the future if they had to stabilize a broken leg or tail, he thought.
[+1 Stick, +1 Lavender, +2 XP]

Sunny stumbled upon something weird she couldn’t recognize – a strange thing laying on the forest floor. Carefully, she picked it up, carrying it back to the camp between her teeth.

On silent paws Cloverspark crept closer to the roots, opening her mouth slightly to scent for any prey. There! The delicious smell of mouse, although it seemed to be slightly stale. No matter, every trail was worthy of being pursued in these desperate times.
Her nose twitching, she followed the scent to its source and squinted her eyes in dismay when she arrived. This was no mouse, though it possibly had been one, once. Now there were only scraps left. Another animal must have already fed from it. In any case, even the little meat that was left on the mouse’s bones would prove useful to her, and so she gingerly picked up the remains anyway. At least they still smelled edible and showed no signs of decay.
[+1 Scraps, +1 FP, +1 XP]

On her way back she spotted some celandine of which she removed a few of the dried stalks. Surely, she would need them at some point in the future.

Ocean Clan
Tansypetal sighed and snatched the mint, quickly hurrying back to Leafpaw. "Follow me. I'm sure you might be a bit hungry." She smiled warmly at Leafpaw and set her tail on her shoulder to lead her back. "W-where did you come from? Did you follow me?" Tansypetal asked worriedly. "They could have killed you!" Leafpaw shook her head, "Yes, I did. But those mouse-brains couldn't see a squirrel if it was in front of them in the daytime!" Leafpaw snorted. "I've been tracking you for days, when I finally found your proper scent trail that starclan forbidden fox attacked me." She growled, "Oh and thanks for helping me out with that one." Tansypetal turned to her, "You should be careful okay? And of course, Leafpaw." She hugged her and licked her ears affecionately, "I missed you, Tansypetal. Life has been rough since you left. Cats were killed by this... disease but me and this other cat never caught it. I touched this flower and... he says that's what might've prevented it." Tansypetal's eyes widened as they climbed the smooth stone slope leading to their oceanside cave system dens. "Wow... but you didn't eat the flower?" Leafpaw shook her head, "Nope, just touched it." Tansypetal heaved herself one last step and walked into the cave. "This... if you wouldn't mind staying, is my home and can be yours too." Leafpaw laughed in awe, "Are you kidding? That's the whole reason I followed you! So that I could find you and live with you!" She smiled and nuzzled Tansypetal affecionately. "I missed you!" She hugged her and they shared stories for a while, sitting by the entrance and watching the sun warm their pelts. "Alright." Tansypetal began as she stood to stretch and yawn. "I think it's time for a tour, yes?" Leafpaw bounced around excitedly. "Yay yay yay!" Tansypetal smiled, "Alright then, follow me closely." She led her down the smooth stone cave walls littered with light from the natural holes in the cave walls. "Isn't it beautiful? My brother and I... I wish he could see what he helped me achive." Leafpaw stopped dead in her tracks. "Wait... where is h-he?" She asked and began shaking. "They killed him when he was helping me make my escape that night." Leafpaw sniffled and continued following her, she knew her and her brother had an awfully close bond. "I'm very sorry about your loss..." She whispered hollowly. They kept a mournful silence until they arrived at the apprentice and warrior den. "This is the warriors and apprentices den but you can sleep in my den till more cats come to live with us." She smiled weakly and showed her further down the cave halls stopping by a large cave with herbs smell, "Medicine cat den is here and theres a smaller cave behind it with the herbs I've collected so far. If you ever begin to feel sick, please tell me. It's leafbare as you know so I'm sure you're aware of all the sickness that spreads around but rest assured, we have loads of herbs to use in that situation." Leapaw smiled and nodded thoughtfully. "Sure." They walked back over to her den and they both laid down. "Alright, short nap and then we can go outside for a bit. I will be your new mentor." She touched her nose to Leafpaw's and nuzzled her cheek. "Rest well and then we'll head out for a while and go exploring some more." Leafpaw nodded excitedly and tucked her paws neatly under her. Leafpaw's breathing slowed and she closed her eyes, falling asleep quickly. Tansypetal sighed happily and looked up to the top her den, "Thank you, brother." She laid her head on her paws and fell asleep. (She would soon wake up and go out to look for herbs. In parenthesis = not counted for words)[ 625 words ]

The Tribe of Singing Wind
(A quick note before I begin, in the last reply the writer stated I gained 0% hunger, but I only fed Flower and Songbird, so I added 10% HUP to Snow. Was this ok? If I made an error I will fix it asap, sorry for the confusion!!)

Flower sat next to Songbird, sharing tongues. He felt guilty for letting Songbird come on the previous patrol. ``If he hadn't come, maybe his paw would be better by now?``, he thought while grooming his friend. He felt overwhelmed, worrying about Songbird's injury and the short-tempered she-cat that sat on the other side of camp. There was some sort of divide between Songbird and Snow, an unspoken distrust between the two? ``I'll have a chat with her today during patrol...``. The tribe leader stood up and let Songbird he was leaving with Snow for a patrol. Songbird protested but saw the worry in his leader's eyes, and quickly gave up. ``Snow? Can you come on a patrol with me?``, the leader called out to the white she-cat, ``Songbird is staying behind this time to rest``. Snow stretched and yawned, and began walking out of camp. ``I'll meet you outside``, she meowed quietly. Flower gave a concerned glance to Songbird and followed Snow out of the camp.

The two were walking quietly until Flower broke the silence. ``Snow, why do you and Songbird bicker so often? We all need to work together as a team if we want this tribe to succeed.``, they meowed, soft enough so prey hopefully wouldn't hear. The she-cat lashed her tail irritably, and responded. ``I care about this tribe as much as you do, I just don't show it in the same way. I hunt and I fight, I don't worry over every single cat like I'm their mother``, she responded coldly. She stopped and faced her leader, calmer now. ``I don't hate Songbird, I think he makes foolish decisions. I'm not fond of him either, but I don't hate him``.

The two cats continued onward, trying to find prey on the cold day. Flower felt somewhat better about their situation, now knowing that Snow had the tribe's best interest in mind. Once the tribe was bigger he wouldn't be able to take care of every individual cat. With that in mind he lead the way, a new perspective fresh in his mind.

Clan of Roaring Silence

Badgerstar began his long journey from the farm he once called home to the territory he’d received a vision of. He had long been acquainted with clan cats around his farm, his interactions with them ranging from amorous to going to war to defend his farm. Growing up defending the farm from vermin and foxes hardened the Tom into a skilled fighter and hunter, wearing the large scar across his muzzle from defending his chickens proudly.

His two-legs were an elderly couple who’d cared for him and his family for generations, though as the moons passed the old man who once tossed them scraps began smelling differently, like disease and it wasn’t long after that he stopped coming out of the farm house all together. Strangers came soon after and began trapping his family so Badgerstar, then Harley had no choice but to leave. It was then when he received a vision of a mist filled valley that was bountiful in prey and safe from two-legs like the once who took his family.

As he traveled on the borders of clan territory, he was careful not to leave too much scent on the dense brush and bare trees. Even as he grew tired and hungry he kept going until the cooling ever present mist of the valley surrounded him and he finally allowed himself a moment to stop and drink from the river before beginning his long waited for hunt.

Thistleclan

Smoulderfur's patrol returned with a squirrel, which was a decent catch in these cold temperatures. They left the prey they found at the prey pile and sat by the sunning rocks. Unless it was really sunny, it's not good to sit on the rocks in the cold because it saps the warmth right out of you.

It was the same for the winter months. Never enough prey to go around. They were starting to ration the prey, and Briarstripe was doing his best. He had been getting close again with Snowrush, talking about old times and what the weather was like, but he had to unfortunately start to put aside their talks to organize more patrols to feed the clan. One particular morning, it was white a windy outside. They were experiencing a blizzard, they are as bad as they come.

Briarstripe awoke that morning, tired and overworked. He had been getting help from Ravenwing, who was a senior warrior. They had worked closely together since they were warriors both intent on become deputies. Briarstripe eventually rose to fill that spot, but has not forgotten about her. Whenever he needs a break, Ravenwing is more than capable to take over.

"Ravenwing, are you out there already?" the black she-cat waved her tail. The camp was mostly sheltered but it was still hard to see because if the wind.

"Yes, I'm here! I've got the patrol ready. We need more herbs, we can't have anyone getting sick, especially with a new litter in the clan. Primrose is doing a good job with comforting Willowbreeze, but she's still worried about Hawkmoth."

Briarstripe sighed. This was their worst winter in many, many moons. Some cats could die. he had to stay strong for the clan. "Alright. I want you to take out the patrol, and as soon as you come back get inside. I'm not going to take any risks. If anyone is showing signs of sickness, we move them to the medicine den, even if it's a false alarm. Better safe then sorry."

Ravenwing nodded. "Yes, I'll get them now." She walked over to the warriors den to get the patrol, and Briarstripe walked over to Sorrelstar's den. As he approached the entrance, Thistleclaw stopped him. "Stop! Don't come any closer."

"What's wrong? Is everything ok?" he asked quickly.

"It's Sorrelstar, she's got a cold. It could turn into something worse." Thistleclaw muttered.

Briarstripe gasped. This was one of the worst things that could happen, how did-

Sorrelstars' raspy mew snapped him back into reality. "I'm fine, you toad. I just need rest and some herbs. Please don't waste your energy on me. I have lives to spare." she paused to cough. "Now go, I don't want anyone else getting sick."

Briarstripe nodded, and walked away reluctantly. He wouldn't tell anyone except for the senior warriors as to not spread panic. Ravenwing's patrol was ready to head out, but Briarstripe stopped her. "I need to borrow you for a moment. Get the senior warriors for a moment."

Ravenwing nodded and went back into the warriors den. She emerged quickly with the rest of the senior warriors following close behind. Briarstripe led them quickly to a corner of the camp.

"I have news. Only me, Jay's Wing and Thistleclaw know. Sorrelstar has a cold, but Thistleclaw says she's getting worse. We need to be on top of things. What's a clan without it's leader?"

Pumpkinpelt looked down. He had a concerned look on his face. Flamefall brushed his tail on his back, trying to comfort him. "It's going to be fine. Jay's Wing is the most talented medicine cat this clan has ever seen, and we will push through."

Briarstripe nodded. "Yes, we will. I have an idea as well, one that will keep our sanity's safe as well as our warriors. Every one of you will be in charge of a group of cats. You will hunt every day, but the groups will take shifts. We need to find more herbs and prey. We have three kits to care for for Starclans sake. No one will die this winter."

The three senior warriors mewed their agreement, and went to organize their groups. Ravenwing took her patrol out, and Briarstripe stayed behind to manage the camp. He took inventory of the herbs with Jay's Wing, reinforced the nursery, and dug a hole lined with now to keep the prey fresh.
