Hi! Im no mod or anything but i do know the answer! Marking is important if you want to adopt,because, if you read the rules up front, you MUST mark this page. Other wise, your adoption form will be ignored.Its probably because they want to make sure you are following this thread.
To adopt, click on the 1st page,where you'll see pictures of other "color ins", and they'll be made by different artists. Again,read the first page of each if they have or haven't been won already, or being judged.
