    The territory was beautiful.

It was… touched by the paws of StarClan and blessed with the favor of the Stars. Even if the soft, rose-gold rays of dawn hadn’t peeked its head over the horizon, there was something about this place. Something that roused something so deep, so inexplicable, within.

    It was home. Her home.

She lifted her head, tracing the arch of the trees and the branches ━ the way they wove and spun, some gnarled and twisted, and others carving a straight path towards the pale skies. Shadows flitted and flickered, morphing with the gentle gust of the wind. And… something else.

Her pawsteps carried her close to a tree. Knots and stripped bark riddled the tree, carving intricate patterns of swirls and patches. She set her paws on the roots, pulling her paws onto the tree’s base. Her nose wrinkled as a beetle inched onto her paws. It was an ancient tree, perhaps one that had seen better years… but that wasn’t what she was here for.

A small, darkened form perched on a branch, staring aimlessly into the skies. Its gnarled talons scraped along the branch, tapping once. Then twice. At thrice, it turned.

Her heart skipped a beat. Ghost.

The creature’s pale, phantom face peered down at her, unshrouded by shadows. Large and luminous, illuminated by the low light… perhaps it’d even devoured the light. It was striking. Captivating.

    An owl. A barn owl.

She couldn’t look away, couldn’t move. She was frozen.

Dark, beady eyes narrowed into slits as its sharp, claw-like beak parted. Then, a low, haunting note pierced the chilled breeze, mournful and contemplative. A somber song. Talons loosening from the branch, the face swiveled aside. The creature spread its wings ━ wings sheathed with warm sienna tones flecked with speckles of ash tones.

It took flight with outstretched wings. A mere shadow of the early morning, silent and transient, as if it’d never existed.

A soft breath eased from her jaws. It was gone… perhaps to find a last snack, before it retired for its morning slumber. She shook herself, rolling her shoulders. Her paw shifted, claws snagging.

    A loose piece of bark?

She tilted her head, edging to the other side of the tree. Her jaws parted.

A hollow. It’d been hidden, tucked around the other side of the tree, concealed from the prying eye. Her paw dipped into the burrow, scraping the inside. Scents flooded her nose, the faint tang of blood and bitter herbs, as she pulled it closer to the front.

Faint colors peeked out at her. Pale golds, tans and greens… along with a few, cold pieces of meat. (+1 chervil, +1 comfrey root, +1 feverfew, +1 marigold, +1FP scraps)

      PEACECLAN !
The morning breeze ruffled through her pelt, light and airy, laced with the sweet fragrance of wildflowers and fresh leaves. It was perfect. A perfect day for a hunt and for some… gentle teasing.

Cloudpelt bumped her shoulder into a certain tom’s side, holding back a soft chur as his head whipped around. She tilted her head, lengthening her strides.

“Daydreamer.” She tossed him a wink, sliding aside as Oakspeck tried to return the favor. Her tail swished as he missed, pawsteps faltering. “Must have been too busy finding the perfect time to burst into song.”

Oakspeck chuckled. “Right. Y’know, that reminds me…”

She groaned, gaze darting over her shoulder. If he started up again… she shook her head. Nearing the tom, she lightly swatted him with her tail. “Don’t you dare. The prey will be gone, fleeing the premises from your━”

Cloudpelt hissed softly. A twinge shot down her tail, enough to make her claws curl. Perhaps she shouldn’t be swatting with that tail after her close encounter with that… branch earlier. Perhaps she pulled something earlier. (cloudpelt received a tail sprain! -5% health ━ no herbs or rest needed for her to return to patrol!)

Mosspaw brushed up beside her, head tilted. Her jaws were filled with leaves, roots and flowers… almost as if she’d taken a mouthful from the dirt. Her voice was muffled. “You okay?”

She smiled, ruffling her nose along the soft curls atop the apprentice’s head. “Yeah, just a sprain. I’ll be okay━ wait, what did you find?”

The apprentice grinned. “I don’t know! But I think they could be useful!” (+1 bindweed, +1 dock, + 1 fennel)

“Hey, head’s up.” Oakspeck pointed a nose ahead. “Crow.”

The dark bird hopped along a patch of clover, poking around. Cloaked in shadows, it stood out. A bold, striking creature in a field peppered with soft greens and speckles of pastel blossoms.

She glanced over her shoulder, signalling for the apprentice to stay put. “I’ll take the front… you take the back.” She dropped to a crouch. “... I’ll herd it towards you.”

    Oakspeck nodded, breaking off.
The crow was… distracted. Its pointed beak disappeared into the patch of clover, claws prodding at the earthy ground. With a quick dip of its head, it pulled out a long, pale creature. The wriggling worm was caught within its beak and its chest… puffed with triumph.

    But not for long.

Springing forward, she emitted a low growl, dashing into the clover. A startled shriek left the bird as its dark wings spread, ready for flight. It retreated towards the back, hopping along… right into the waiting form of a certain tortie tom. (+4FP crow)

She flashed a smile, offering the tom a gentle nudge. “Nice catch. It’s a good thing you’re a better hunter than singer━”

“Cloudpelt! Oakspeck!” Mosspaw darted across the field, a frazzled blur coming into focus. “There’s cats! I don’t think they’re part of the clan.” The apprentice panted, sides heaving. “They’re━ they’re near the border, but not trespassing or anything. Are they…”

The young molly’s voice dropped to a low hush. Her paws shuffled along the ground. “Are they dangerous?”

A rogue group has been spotted near the border! They don't appear to be trespassing or to pose a threat... or perhaps not yet.
Does the patrol leave the rogue group alone or choose to confront them?

    totals;

notes; hi there, your coding looks really pretty, ahh! i like how easy it is to follow! a quick thing, but make sure you throw in your word count somewhere, please! it just makes things easier for us writers when doing replies! apart from that, everything looks absolutely perfect! <33

The two girls cautiously trekked home for backup, knowing exactly who would be chosen for this position. The new member to Ocean Clan, Wanderer and his travel companion lizard Tiki. Wanderer, despite being new to the clan, was most definitely not new to the dangers of this world, he even had the scars and stories to prove it. Some... were a bit extra but what's wrong with a bit of pizzaz? Peachcrown snuck into camp after telling Squirrelpaw to stay put at the entrance just a paw step away from the smooth stone ramp. She crawled into the warriors' den and in a loud whisper called, "Wanderer? Tiki? Either of you in there?" She saw a sandy form stir and a bright black and orange small shape approach her.

"Eh? What's wrong Peachcrown?" He asked as she quietly led him to the entrance where Squirrelpaw had been waiting. Both she-cats explained everything. Wanderer soaked in the information calmly and thoughtfully whilst his companion sat upon his shoulder with his blank black beady eyes shining as if he was doing the same things as Wanderer. "Ah, okay, I see. How about I get my son to come with us in case this occurs again? The fox might not even try to tangle with four cats of our size." He mewed in a suggesting tone to the girls. "Bolin, you mean?" Squirrelpaw asked curiously. Wanderer nodded quietly, "You two go wait at the base of the ramp and I'll go wake him and Albie." Albie happened to also be Bolin's travel companion, just like Bolin's father had.

Several minutes of Peachcrown pacing and Squirrelpaw rolling around carelessly in the still-warm sand to warm herself, Wanderer, Tiki, Bolin, and Albie were finally ready to come over and assist them on their next patrol. "Alright girls, you ready?" They both nodded to Wanderer's words and stood. He'd make a wise deputy... Peachcrown thought but quickly scolded herself, he had only been there for two weeks. Squirrelpaw bounced over to Bolin and began happily chatting to the sweet-natured tom Peachcrown had noticed Squirrelpaw had begun to take a fast liking to. Peachcrown liked him but clearly not as much as Squirrelpaw did. "Off we go then," Wanderer said, breaking Peachcrown away from her rapid-firing thoughts.

Squirrelpaw, despite chatting it off with Bolin, was wobbling and her eyes were slightly droopy if that makes sense. Peachcrown cleared her throat to get Squirrelpaw's attention, "Hey, why don't you go rest? You've been patrolling nearly the entire day and Brokenscar needs you to work hard tomorrow too." Squirrelpaw pursed her lips slightly and looked between Bolin and Peachcrown before bowing her head in defeat and smiling, "Oh fine... goodnight everyone." She trotted back up the ramp and a moment before the group was able to leave, a tortie head popped out of the entrance, looking at them curiously, Dang it, she must've heard from all the talking. Rosetta slid gracefully down the ramp with her bunny friend Gray right behind her, per usual.

"Do you have another space for one?" Gray headbutted her in the leg and she laughed quietly, "Sorry, space for one point five?" Gray rolled his eyes and nodded to the other male companions, Albie and Tiki. "Sure." Wanderer murmured before looking up at the sky. Midnight. "If we want to finish, though, before sunrise we better get moving pronto."

    people can surprise you sometimes.
and... that had never been more true to goldenblossom.

there wasn’t even a note of disapproval laced in reality’s lovely cadence.
all she heard was the hushed vibrato of silence… there’s wasn’t even a single peep from the
entire patrol. and it was.. sweet. almost. but, she had never felt this... feeling in so, so long.
like she had finally done something right.

it felt serene.. as if her heart had become a beautiful swan, a silent creature who represented love in the most tranquil of ways. and it was strange,
really. how such a simple thing could make her feel so.. accomplished.

“ah, i can’t thank you enough… “ soft gold eyes fluttered to meet hers.. fennel’s.. with a gentle light to them as the fragrance of herbs
blossomed all around. “please, forgive me.. i don’t believe i remember your name.”

“oh. i--” pausing a little to glance up at the unfamiliar cat, her paws danced over to a blade of grass.. a delicate shred of emerald hues. “ my name is goldenblossom.”

“ah, yes... thank you, goldenblossom. you’ve done so much than anything i could’ve ever asked for.” their gold eyes danced.. danced a tango that
landed on each and every member that stood among the patrol. “thank you all. i don’t know how else to say, but perhaps i have something to
    repay the favour?”

    fennel grinned.

and what goldenblossom saw next... it was dazzling.
she had never seen so many fireflies trapped in a glass jar at once.. but there was thousands of them tangled in that clear cage. millions, fluttering
about… spiralling around each other to create a tornado of light. it was magical.. like a lover’s trance.
(+1 common edit from fennel!! )

“i- this isn’t necessary, fennel.. believe me.” the only response she received from the mysterious cat was a sheepish smile.. a grin adorned with herbs.
and they seemed.. pleased. ecstatic even.
“thank you, my friends. i hope to see you again. ” muffled by the bunch of herbs laced in their jaws, the stranger was there one moment and gone
the next, with nothing but an ivory flower to mark his place.
    feverfew.

    “fennel, wait! you dropped-”

    it was too late.
    he was already gone.
(+1 feverfew [check the box below ^^)

“i’m sure their friend will be fine.” turquoise eyes glinting, smokestorm gently placed a paw on her shoulder.. a comforting gesture from the tom as she
gathered up the fallen herb, delicately picking the flower between her teeth. “you know that right?”

“we'll never know for sure. what if-”

“come on, goldenblossom. it’s going to be fine.” he grinned. “besides, i found another herb. it’s always nice to have another addition to your herb storage.”

    the dawn skies were alluring.
dancing with the most ravishing of colors.. the hues of a thousand shades of rosy pinks and periwinkles had been streaked together into a delicate ombre. and the gentleness of it all seemed almost surreal.
but it was all real.. real to infernoheart.

and so was the little red creature frolicing around in the fallen leaves that were lain across the earth. a squirrel.
and in it’s delicate fingers, a little acorn was hugged close to its chest. gleaming ever-so softly in the lights above. it was sweet, really. in a way at least.

breathing a quiet sigh, infernoheart’s footsteps were gentle across the earth.. quiet. and it seemed almost as if she wasn’t there. and perhaps, the little
red critter could live in peace until its days ran short.
unfortunately, things couldn't always be that way.
    (+3fp [squirrel], +3 exp )

but.. dawn was quickly fading. too quickly, it seemed.

but only one thing was for certain.. she had lost track of time. and the trees that danced all around her were unfamiliar.. unlike the ones she had seen when she
was with the rest of the patrol. she was... far from home. way too far.

“hawkstripe? ivypatch?” she paused, her heart’s melody skipping a beat. “are you all there?”
nothing. just nothing. not even a peep.

    she had been remarkably foolish.
her.. one of the best fighters of duskclan had gotten lost. and that.. was that a kind-of thing that could damage her reputation. she had to go back and
find the others.. before they realized she was gone.

on a second thought, they probably already realized she was gone.

teeth lacing through the scarlet curls that adorned the limp creature, time seemed to tick by all too quickly.. slipping from her fingertips. how far had she
    gone?

because one moment she was running through the forest.. then the next she had fallen, winded by a rotting log.
letting loose a soft hiss, infernoheart shook her head.. a little ivory flower descending to the earth once more as she rolled to her toes. feverfew. maybe..
    that would explain her absence.

“infernoheart? is that you?” a deep vibrato in the hush that radiated throughout the entire forest, she reconginzied the voice all too well. hawkstripe. the last

“i-i was out hunting.. i think i got a little carried away.” struggling for the right words, she dipped her head, unable to meet those vibrant eyes. ones
that reminded her of the heavens above. “i apologize.”

“i see.” eyes slightly narrowed, it wasn’t hard to see the irritation glinting in those sky-blue depths. it was obvious.. almost too obvious. “while you were
out on your.. expedition, the patrol caught some prey.”

Ah. Just my luck. The corners of Charlie’s mouth tightened as she considered the stranger. In the little time that she had left before the kittypet’s arrival and the morning’s dawn, she hadn’t slept, turning the shape of her problem over and over in her mind. Lucky for them? It was lucky for her that that mouse had practically scurried between her paws, or she might have missed entirely. This loner… was a welcome distraction from her problem.
She shook the dust out of her ears and straightened up. “I’m sorry… Fennel, was it? It’s not often I get visitors around these parts, and just this morning I have two. So you see, you took me a bit by surprise, but I may be able to help you. Is your friend-- Ah…” Her eyes flicked over to the young apricot kittypet, eyes now wide as they stood halfway backed up into the hay bale, thick hair raised jaggedly along their spine. “You’ll have to excuse me. My young friend here had a rough night himself.”
Charlie padded over to them, winding her body around theirs and purring to warm them up. She murmured, quietly enough that Fennel could not hear, “Don’t worry little one, he can’t come out while the sun is high. You’re safe. Come, let’s go for a walk. Take your mind off of things for a while. We can talk later.”
“Celery,” they squeaked.
“I’m sorry?”
“My name is Celery. You didn’t ask.”
That caught Charlie by surprise, and she let out an odd half-cough, half-chuckle. Heavens. Maybe they wouldn’t be so traumatized after all.
---
“So your name is Fennel? Mine’s Celery. That’s a vegetable too. All of my siblings were named after vegetables. Well, my littermates. Not my foster-siblings. Were your littermates named after vegetables too?”
Heavens indeed. Charlie lifted her face to the sky, watching the clouds drift by for a moment. Behind her, Fennel and Celery walked side by side, the brown tabby cheerfully absorbing the brunt of the younger cat’s manic energy. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Celery’s tail still bushed up, betraying the nerves that they were trying to talk their way out of.
Well, she was nervous too. When Fennel had described their lost friend’s path to her, Charlie had agreed to escort them south as far as the open Barrens, where Fennel might be able to catch a scent on the clear-cut winds. She was becoming increasingly on edge, however, as they approached the edge of the Twolegplace that squatted in the heart of the valley.
Charlie had watched from afar as the Twolegplace rose up like a skeleton out of the remnants of her old home, but she dared not step foot within. The trigger-happy gang of rogues known as The Stones that patrolled the streets were the least of her worries were she to be caught past the border. If Steadystar found out that she had left her exile, even now…
“Oh! I think I smell her! Come on, little vegetable, let’s go!” Fennel nudged Celery’s shoulder with their own and the two went dashing off in the direction of a weedy gravel boundary.
“Foxdung,” Charlie cursed under her breath as the two young cats pushed past her. I’m too old for this now. Panting, her tongue lolling lightly out of her graying muzzle, Charlie bounded after them. Her eyes flicked around for whoever--or whatever--Fennel was chasing. Was that a tabby tail curled over a windowsill? Were those eyes watching them from that strangely geometric bush? Was--
A scrawny smoke tortoiseshell crashed out from under a monster’s chin, tumbling to a landing directly in their path. “Well, well, well. Wot ‘ave we ‘ere, mates?” She got up in Fennel’s face, flicking her tail under their chin. “Y’all wandered riiiight on into Stones territory, innit?”
Unperturbed, Fennel offered a toothy grin. “Hey there, pardnerrrr,” they drawled in an equally silly accent. “We be lookin’ for me matey round these parts. Have ye seen yarrr?”
Was Charlie seeing things, or did the scrappy rogue seem genuinely hurt? “Ay. Don’t be goin’ on makin’ fun o’ my talk. Now yer realllyyy in trouble, ya hear? I’mma bring y’all straight ta y’all’s friend now. She’s with the ol’ once-a-week, guvnah!”
Celery scrunched their nose quizzically at Fennel, who only shrugged. “I don’t know what that means either, ‘mate’, but I think she’s going to lead us in the right direction anyway?”
Charlie clicked her tongue in impatience, but it appeared that Fennel was right. The funny little street cat was striding off, tail high, clearly expecting them to follow. She appeared to have no backup in sight, but there was no telling who would await them at their destination deeper into the next of apartments. As long as we make it out of here by Sundown…

Though tranquil silence rested over them, Fadedhaze could hardly keep his thoughts together. While some found this a peaceful time, the healer constantly found himself binded to his anxeties, various worries and fears plaguing his mind as he padded alongside Maplewish, his stride stiff and heavily cautious. He allowed his gaze to roam, a singular amber eye free to do so, without a large lock of fur hindering its ability to complete the task.
XXXXFadedhaze had journey alongside Maplewish in order to collect some herbs, as customary to their kind. Though, he would've felt more at ease with a member of Junud alongside them, or better yet, not be out here at all. Among his fellow healers he felt safe, secure even. There was always another to take the lead, offer a word of wisdom and even those who saved him the trouble of taking on such tasks to begin with. And yet on this particular night, he held nothing of such a nature.
XXXXAt least the caliby harbored some sort of interest in herbs, but her never-ending questions and lack of actual knowledge concerning them didn't help his cause. In the end, he was still very much on his own. The tom let out a shaky breath at the thought, before forcing his attention upon the task at paw. It ran through his mind, a steady line of words. Find the herbs, find the herbs.

"Did you find anything yet?!" A sudden voice more or less yelled at him, though the inquiry was sincere and held curiosity and excitement. Once his racing heart had settled, Fadedhaze turned to the caliby that stood nearby, her whiskers quivering with anticipation. "N-No. Not yet." The tom replied, before turning back to his search. How on earth had he ended up with Maplewish of all cats was beyond him, but at least she was friendly. Other hunters were mildly intimidating, and he wouldn't even begin to think about how the soldiers were. Sure, he felt safer from harm with one alongside him, but they could be so...intense.
XXXX"Aw! Well, I'm sure you'll find something soon!" The hunter replied, startling the tom again. "Maplewish, please! Don't just break the silence like that...you're scaring me..." Letting out an 'ugh', the tom hurried away from the excitable hunter and decided it might be best to work alone for awhile. Perhaps a few moments by himself would aid in his success and temporarily soothe his mind.

♠` A crispness was in the air. It was a quiet mist that covered the forests floor, and a stirring was filling the air. Brisk fog lifted amongst the trunks, branches wearing thin, and bare, and a thin layer of white covererd every surface imaginable. It was cold, not to harsh, but just harsh enough to bite the toes of those who dared tiptoe around the territiory. The sky was grey as ice, the sun hiding meekly behind several cumulous clouds.

♠` It was the season of Lonely-Branch for the cats of Comet. Being atop a mountain peak, where the air was super thin made the chill of snow banks and lack of prey. It was like an early winter for those who were unfamiliar, but to them it was normal. This was the season of high alert, and readiness for then next, as it would become hard to live soon. Unlike many clans, this would be time to start storing, and preserving food for the months to come. They already had some stock, but word of starvation was going around, and word of mouth became clear. Hunting was going to be necessary.

♠` SunStar, a large overly thin tom cat with long blonde fur, and plenty of scars on his left side, was in charge of this humble clan. His golden eyes pierced his peoples hearts, and assured them a safe future, and at the moment, in his warmer den, he was contemplating the situation at hand. It was going to be a rough 'Snow-Wrath' if they didn't do something soon. Cleaning his legs he purred softly to calm himself. Sun's den was nicer then the rest, bigger, and more cozy for certain. Straw, bamboo, and other brush lied the floor, while his opening had a nice view of the mountainside, but deep enough to be cut off from the blustery weather. Most of the other dens were much deeper underground, and didn't have a great view, but were safer from enemy attack.

♠` The old cat leaped from his abode, and strutted down one of the dug out corridors of the mountainside. These cats slept like rabbits really, due to the weather and dangers of the mountain peak, they adapted. As he hurried down the feline slid into another cat resting cave. Inside was a much larger cat then him, mostly due to muscular value then anything, but the opposing cat's height was more then the leaders. He was a white tom with a red striped tail, and red topped head including his ears. This was TagetsePelulia.

♠` Tag stared at his leader in amusement, sniveling in defiance. "What would you want this bright and early morning." The sun had risen not to long ago, so it wasn't that early, but the joke was fitting to the situation. His voice was rough and filled with cracks which made other cats flinch as they walked by, followed by a nasal filled croak. Tag was clearly ill.

♠` "Go see the Angel Leaf Tagetse." Sun persisted, waving his paw out towards the direction of another nest that wasn't visible from here. 'Angel Leaf' is a term referring to a cat whom was an expert in medicine, and illness. They were called angels due to there impressive god-like ability to heal, and there connection with Star Clan was formidable. No one argued with whomever the Angel Leaf was assigned to.

♠` Tag went to refuse, but got off his rocker, and slumbered out of the den. He had to pass several halls to get to the 'medicine cat', but arrived with little delay. As he passed around the leaf covered entrance, a pleasant short haired tom greeted him. The angel was also mostly white, with patches of black that was covered in gold specks. His blue eyes lied carefully on the big white feline.

♠` "Finally decided to show up?" The angel spoke, his voice that of a younger cat, calm and smooth. "You have quite the cold there. Here let me wip you up something soothing." The cat kept his smile as he rummaged through his storage of herbs.

    •••○☼○•••

♠` After that business, Tagetse felt a lot better. He knew the Comets wouldn't let him leave camp however, no matter how good the medicine worked on his sinuses. Food was necessary however, and he was in charge of the hunting. He wouldn't get passed the entrance of the tunnels, but he could convince his fellow Dragons to hunt for him. Tag quickly decided who to send out, and launched for the dens they slept in hoping they were still home.

♠` The first cat in mind was RippleSong, a molly who's heart and legs were as strong as a cat three times her age. She was young, but amazingly skilled, and Tag trusted her to bring home a descent meal. She was also the closest to the medicine den out of the cats he wanted to leave for him. The black tabby eagerly agreed, stating she would get the others for him, and to go get some rest. With that, the older man slumbered home.

♠` Ripple brought her best friend SolumnBlossom, and the recommended Greyfox. Solumn immediately agreed, her joy was intangible to stop when her friend said to go, especially since at least one Fire, which was Solumn's rank in question. A rank that was basically the same as Ripples, but rather then just Patrolling, they would be protecting the clan. Normally they wouldn't be hunting, that was left to Teeth, but a few Teeth would be out and about hunting as well, if they caught anything it would be more a 'on the way' sort of thing.

♠` Grey refused. The two of them stood there in disbelief of the grey shortie, but the cat didn't budge. Could you blame the fella though? He as surrounded by girls, he was shorter then the rest of the clan, and no one trusted his skills due to his missing eye. The grey cat hunched over his brown belly and grimaced at the two, but then they remarked they didn't need any help, and that if they saw anyone that asked about him, the girls would simply bark that 'GreyFox was a coward who wouldn't protect women". This got the feisty tom to his feet and the three of them left for patrol.

    •••○☼○•••

♠` MistLeaf peered over his collection of medicine. The Angel Leaf had been worried that this would happen as of late, and knew that it would come to either him, or his assistants to fix the issue. They were low on herbal remedies. Some leaves here and there, but not enough to get them through Snow-Wrath. He frowned and turned to see DreamCloud at his heel.

♠` The cat was simply stunning to all clan members, even Mist had his jaw dropped now and them. The Medicine expert was a violet sheen with a mostly white body. Only her points showed the purple color, and while unnatural to cats in general, it looked perfectly normal on the molly. On top of the Amber eyes and soft coat, she had two tails flicking about. Mist found himself staring. He wasn't attracted to her, but she was a nice sight to look at while waiting for her lips to part.

♠` It quickly did. The she-cat purred softly in a honey toned voice. The kind you expect from movie stars. "Out of Borage Leaves?" It was sarcastic, as she knew the lot was entirely empty. Her paw wavering over the cubby where the leaves would lie. Her eyes only peered over the spot for a second before staring at her 'higher up'.

♠`Mist responded slowly, making sure not to offend, but more or less picking the right words was important to him. He was extremely articulate, and always cautious with every action he took, including that of avoiding jokes which made him a bit dry at times. "Yes. Fetch some for me please."

♠` Dream simply nodded, understanding that the Leaf wasn't in the mood to be humored, sauntering out of the medicine den rather silently as to not disturb Mist's thoughts. She hopped through and past many sleeping quarters, dens, and storage holes. Eventually reaching a rather small entrance to the snowy mountain top. There she approached a very soft medium furred molly, and cued to her. "Snowbell sugar, care to take a walk with me?"

♠` The dust colored tabby turned her head and stared empty like towards the other Angel Thumb with golden baby doll eyes. She seemed like a ditzy fool to most who met her, but she was just a little lost in her own thoughts really. She followed without saying a word, as if to also admire the looks of Dream's fantasy like pelt.

    •••○☼○•••

♠` With all cats accounted for, Sun stumbled to his brush covered bedding, lied his head over his paws, and dozed off slowly to sleep. The leader would hope for pleasant dreams, and to be awoken with fresh prey at his feet from his dearest member. As a Comet he was in charge of making sure everyone got there share, but his fatigue wanted to let the others monitor themselves, as they usually behaved without enforcement. Good dreams he hoped.

he wind whipped the patrol’s fur and whiskers; they were past the natural wind break of the forest as they bowed their heads towards the rocky cliffs that overlooked the sea. It currently was the tail-end of wave’s rage (summer) and it wasn’t leaving without putting up a fight. The long sunny days were slowly becoming tamer as wave’s rest (fall) crept closer.
Rhythm’s long fur usually served him well during these windy days, protecting him from the biting breeze and ocean spray. He and Pillar stood shoulder to shoulder when they finally arrived at the edge of the precipice while the other two cats hung behind, checking little grass tufts for critters. Rhythm looked to Pillar and observed his content state, standing still and tall with his eyes shut and a peaceful hint of a smile that contrasted the wind gusts and crashing waves around them. Every few waves, some droplets would reach the cats high above the sea.
“How does the sky look today?” Pillar had to shout to be heard.
Rhythm glanced upwards. “Uh, gray, I suppose.” He didn’t really see any other way to describe it, but that didn’t satisfy the Rex.
Pillar took one last deep breath of the fresh salty air and turned back where their other two companions were waiting. “How does the sky look today, Key?”
The youngest cat joining their patrol today, Lucky Dice, studied the sky for a moment before nonchalantly replying, “Gray and cloudy.”
Barbed Wire sniffed disapprovingly. “A kitten would have a more apt description than that.”
“I’d love to hear your input,” Pillar unknowingly cut off Dice’s retort with his sincerity.
“The sky itself is a dusted, muted blue while thick gray clouds almost completely cover it from view. Lighter, wispy clouds blow through occasionally, so it will probably be windy again tomorrow.” The dilute tortie puffed up her fur, “We should get back before Dice is blown off the cliff.”
Pillar hummed happily, it seemed like the wind didn’t affect him but he started walking back just the same. “Very wonderful sky today, Wire,” He complimented. The molly accepted with a brisk nod.
“Why does it matter?” Dice asked.
“Why do you ask?” Wire corrected her old trainee with a swipe to his shoulder.
“It is nice to observe what nature has painted for us today,” Pillar ignored the original question’s arrogant tone; he had grown used to Dice’s sharp, unfiltered tongue. He even found himself enjoying the tom’s blunt honesty the more he had to put up with others’ careful diplomatic answers.
“You think it’s supposed to be windy again tomorrow, Wire?” Rhythm couldn’t help but change the subject.
“It just might be an old superstition,” Wire shrugged, “but my mother would always say that it’d be windy the next day if there were wispy clouds the day before.” Wire looked up at the sky again; all had forgotten the chill they felt from the wind now as they slowly sank back into the thicket of stout pines.
“We’ll have to see if it’s accurate tomorrow,” Pillar said brightly, “Every superstition starts with at least a drop of truth.”
“We shall,” Wire naturally stiffened as the small cluster of weathered cabin ruins that served as their main camp came into view, “Good day, Vicecomes Dice. Comes Rhythm. Rex Pillar.” She ended each of her farewells with a polite bow of her head in which they returned.
“She’s always so formal to everyone even me,” Dice grumbled.
Pillar rested his tail across Rhythm’s flank. It clearly said, I trust you to handle this, as the Rex excused himself.
“I wouldn’t feel too upset,” Rhythm said.
“Who said I was upset?” Dice protested.
Rhythm raised his tail to silence him to continue, “She was raised that way as she joined the Vow when she was just a kit. I doubt she remembers much of her life before here.”
“And so if you grow up here, you’re just going to keel over and be boring?” Dice kept his voice even but his lashing tail betrayed his sincerity.
“Try telling that to Wire,” Rhythm’s voice dropped lower, hinting at his growing annoyance, “there is nothing wrong with following traditions or titles. At the end of the day, isn’t it what she is most comfortable with doing?”
“I guess,” Lucky Dice frowned, only managing to make eye contact with the ground, “thank you for…today…Comes Rhythm.”
Rhythm’s chest swelled from the praise and he cuffed the young tom on the shoulder. “You can call me Rye,” He caught the surprised tom’s eyes and winked, “but you have to promise to talk to Wire about stuff like this next time. Even though she’s not training you anymore, she’d still like if you ask for help.” Rhythm’s eyes narrowed mischievously, “or should I mention that you rather fancy her one day passing by?”
Dice automatically lunged forward hooking one of his claws in Rhythm’s fur with his eyes wide, “If any of those words ever come out of your mouth again, I will take any rank demotion to silence you forever."

ɪt was time once again. Pillar woke early and slipped out of his nest carefully as to not disturb his still slumbering mate. The full moon was expected tonight, he and Vibrant Goldenrod must be prepared. He kept his paw steps soft and quiet, still fearing to awake any other cat. There was something almost surreal about the mornings of full moons; the unnatural silence that smothered the start of the day made him shiver with…excitement? No, it was more like anticipation as Pillar felt something was going to happen deep within his very bones.
The spell was broken as he arrived at Goldenrod’s medicine alcove; he could hear the Proregina bustling around and rummaging through her herb store from the entrance. Pillar purposefully scattered pebbles with a paw and the noise paused. A frazzled head popped out of her shelter, almost meeting Pillar nose to nose. “Good morning, Goldie.”
“Pill,” she greeted in return, “you’re early as usual.” She ducked back into the shadows while clearing a little spot of dust. Pillar followed her guiding tail to sit in the spot she prepared.
“I’m only excited,” Pillar said truthfully. There was not a full moon that passed that he did not enjoy.
Goldenrod’s tone softened, “Seeing the heavens will never grow old,” she agreed, “do you ever regret accepting your role as Rex?” She was probably the only cat in the Vow that could ever dare to ask that question as she herself knew the sacrifices that came along with becoming the ruler.
“Blindness could be worse,” Pillar uncomfortably kneaded the dirt in front of him, “I do not have many issues finding my way around the territory; these paws hold memories of many lifetimes before mine. All I have to do is trust them to carry me to my destination.”
“Yeah, yeah, how noble,” Goldenrod’s laugh was like the high jingle of a bell, “must have been a shock after having your vision for most of your life.”
“That’s why I like full moons so much,” Pillar stretched one paw towards the heavens. His claws instead snagged on a hanging cobweb that dusted the ceiling of the alcove. “Apologies, Goldie.” He shook it off as the Proregina hissed in annoyance.
“I can’t get everything ready for today if you’re going to loaf around,” Goldenrod pushed the Rex back out into the morning air, “I have our herbs ready so just give me a few more minutes to sort out other potential rations. Ah, Essay. I was almost ready to fetch you.” Goldenrod bowed her head as Marchionissa Constant Essence came around the bend and stood among the fronds that protected the medicine alcove from the rest of the bustling camp. She and Pillar exchanged warm morning greetings. “I will show you which herbs are for which issues if any should arise,” Goldenrod stepped back to allow Essence entry to her alcove, “and then your brother and I will be on our way if you feel comfortable enough in charge of my herb store.”
“As long as nobody gets deathly ill all of a sudden,” Essence said confidently, “we’ll be just fine here. I’ve cared for fevers and colds during past full moons.”
“Of course,” Goldenrod finished sweeping the herbs into their respective piles. Thankfully, Pillar had stayed outside leaving the rest of the cobwebs where they were supposed to be. “I appreciate you feeling comfortable enough to look after common ailments when I am unable.”
“I gladly serve the Vow and my brother,” Essence glanced around the alcove at the different piles, “everything is in its usual place?”
    “Yes.”
“Wonderful,” Essence sat down with a level of ease only taught to the noble lineage, “have you thought about taking on a student? I don’t mind tasks like this but a student would help you greatly for your day to day activities.”
Goldenrod shuffled her paws with a frown, “I wouldn’t be so opposed to the idea if there was a promising prospect, but there has been no interest raised by any of the Baros nor word from the Ancient Powers.”
“Of course there is no need to rush,” Essence placed her tail on the other molly’s shoulder, “it was only a thought. You better run along with my brother now before he starts off on his own.” She laughed as Goldenrod’s head snapped worriedly towards the outside. “You know it wouldn’t be the first time he’s done something foolish like that.”
“We’ll hopefully be back around this time tomorrow,” Goldenrod snatched up their bundle of herbs for the journey and trotted out, “Be safe, Essay."
“Take good care of each other,” Essence carefully arranged herself into a comfortable laying position. There weren’t any sick cats starting off the day, so her plan was to catch up on some of her much wanted sleep.
    •••

ire watched her old student in amusement as he paced back and forth, clearly trying to gather up the courage to approach someone. Perhaps he has a crush, she thought while chuckling to herself, oh, his poor little heart. She was too distracted watching the semi-frantic tom to realize that the long grass waving in the wind had wrapped around a barb of her piercing that was also her namesake. Wire let out a soft hiss as she tried her best to untangle the strands but only managed to prick her paw instead. Her rough tongue took care of the small drop of appeared and by the time Wire was ready to attempt to remove the grass again, a shadow blocked out the sunlight filtering over her. Raising her eyes, she met the unsure gaze of Dice.
“Would you like me to help?” Dice drug his eyes away from hers and landed on the knotted grass, “Comitissa,” He hastily added.
“No need to be so formal with me,” Wire assured him while tilting her head to give him easier access. It was unusual to see Dice so candid and she found herself enjoying the informalities. “We’ve spent so much time together while fixing your mistakes during training that we can talk casually.”
Dice seemed to regain his normal confidence and a mischievous twinkle appeared in his eyes. “Does this mean I get to call you Pants as well?”
In an instant, Dice was sent sprawling in the dirt with a tuft of fur missing from his cheek. “What?” He protested while clambering back up to his paws. “I heard Pillar call you that on a patrol once!”
Wire shook her head making sure to hide the smile that wanted to dance across her face. The nerve! “There’s something you are missing from that equation.” She tried to claw the rest of the grass off but it was difficult when she couldn’t see what she was doing. “You’re not the Rex.”
Dice shook the remaining dirt from his fur. “Fair enough,” He batted her paw away from her ear and carefully freed her piercing.
“Thank you,” Wire blinked slowly at Dice, “that reminds me…who were you going to talk to earlier?” Seeing his confused expression, she continued, “I saw you pacing and figured you were anxious to meet someone.”
“Oh, that,” Dice grew flustered and adverted his gaze, “it wasn’t anything important."
Wire stood, “If you say so, Key,” She spotted Essence lounging in front of the medicine alcove. Pillar and Goldenrod must have left already, she thought. “I’ll see you around, I’m going to have Essay put some ointment on my paw before my next patrol.”
    “See you around, Wire."

"Holy Twinklepaws!" Cloudpelt exclaimed. "I think we should go meet them. As long as we don't seem fierce, they'll probably leave us peacefully."

"I admire your bravery, Cloudpelt! Maybe they're lost? We should go check it out." Mosspaw said.

"Yeah, that's a good plan!" Oakspeck peeked behind an oak tree to spy on the cats. "They don't seem all that fierce; they look worried."

"Well, I guess we should go see then," Cloudpelt half smiled.

The three cats slowly went over to the strangers.
