the sky was a bruised and bloodied canvas.

as if a warring god had taken a plum and squeezed it of all life, crushing the lifeblood into their fisted palm until the scarlet juices spilled over, terraforming a lovely terran world into an alien battleground. and that same god used the tattered wisps of clouds like cloth to wipe their stained hands all while their laugh boomed like the strike of a war drum, like the thunderous beat of her heart. maybe she was imagining it, and maybe she hadn’t. yet it seemed like a piece of that fractious realm fell, plummeting like a dying firebird to earth. (+1fp scraps, +1fp scraps, +1fp scraps, +1 lamb’s ear, +1 common myo)

“i can’t smell anything.” the fire-curls upon moltencream’s head seemed to droop at his admission. he kicked at a loose pebble, swiping the back of his paw over his running nose. “maybe it got away?” (predator has left the territory; moltencream is also sick </3 he requires one of these herbs to heal: +1 bright-eye, +1 borage leaves, +1 burdock root or +1 dandelion. he'll receive -10% health for every post he continues patrolling without being healed!)

darkthunder raised her head high. the air hung, still and unmoving, bearing not a trace of that rotten-toothed badger. yet, she could sense the prickle of eyes on her like the eight-legged tip-tapping dance of a spider crawling on the ridge of her spine. a slow grin started upon her lips, the taste sweeter than wild honey. oh, she still had her chance for a fight. she most certainly did.

“i think someone’s here.” her guider tensed, all hard lines hiding the undercurrent of a tremor. oy squeaked, tiny sun-splotched paws whitening as he gripped his friend’s ankle in warning. “they don’t seem too friendly.”

a peal of laughter shot through the woods, the sound dredged from nightmares. a taunt, a challenge, an invitation for blood. (rogues nearby!)

The stare of horror came from all sides, engulfing Axolotl, drowning him. The fighting stopped, and timed seemed to freeze itself, all eyes locking in, wide at the sight in front of them. With heavy hearts, chests tightening in grief, one mournful cry cut through the silence, shattering any chance of peace. As the cats left, spitting their heartaches out at Axolotl, the cat couldn't do anything but continue to stare down at the stains on the ground, stains that would ruin not only his own life, but ended another, and changed anyone's life in this cat's family forever. (The rogues have been driven off!)

Light had shook himself off, already unfazed by the terrible ending to the fight. It trotted around the battlefield, humming in satisfaction as he brought up a few things the rogues left behind. A fish, food the rogues so desperately tried to keep to feed their group, forgotten now. An herb, perhaps once meant to keep the clan going even in their hunger. And other shiny trinkets, scattered throughout and unclaimed now, except for by Light. "Hey, Axolotl, you should help me gather this stuff up," Light called out, feeling a bit giddy with all the stuff he found. Axolotl made no move to answer or help, but Light and his dragon continued to gather whatever they could find. (+2FP small fish, +1 burnet, +60 stardust)

Once everything was picked up, and Axolotl was brought to a safer spot, Light stood for a moment, swaying a bit on its feet. "Oh man, maybe they did put up a bit of a fight," he chuckled to himself, easing himself to the ground to take stock of its injuries. Nothing seemed terribly injured, at least nothing time wouldn't heal on its own. "Scrapes, bruises, scratches... But we still came out on top!" Light smiled, proud of its battle wounds. Yet, it still needed to rest, and allowed himself the moment, the battle replaying in his head over and over. ( Light and Axolotl both received minor wounds in the confrontation! They each lose -15% health.)

The night felt too quick, too long, and just right all at the same time. As both Light and Axolotl stirred, the breeze brought a new scent along - the scent of something that made Axolotl's heart squeeze even more painfully, the guilt giving way to fear. No no no no, not now. Not ever. I can't deal with this. He couldn't even get himself to make a noise, but he looked over at Light's widened eyes, knowing that it scented it too. Just as Light parted his lips to make a comment, the howl drifted up to their ears, melancholy and chilling in the darkness. Something was lurking out there. (The patrol picks up the scent of a coyote! Do they pursue it, or ignore it?)
