ANNOUNCEMENT
Hello! Remember me? It's been awhile. Again. Yeah, I know. Another horribly long hiatus.
I may have figured out why I just up and left this time and didn't bother with the last litter.
It's because I'm discouraged. This thread isn't getting as much attention as it used to.
But that may be because I'm going about doing this version of the shop all wrong.
Why do I say that? Let me explain myself, and maybe you'll understand what I mean.
I wanted RotR to be different than other shops, meaning customers had more to do.
Instead of just adopting, I added an explore feature to include a little interaction.
But then I hardly ever got around to opening that explore feature, so it sat...forgotten.
Another thing I did wrong was not have litters go up often enough. That's a big one.
That was mostly because of all the emotional trauma and depression I was dealing with.
It's difficult to take care of an adoptable shop when you're feeling extremely sad all the time.
There's also the factor that I'm so strict on what colors and markings the Rah'liani can have.
That was because I wanted to use actual genetics for the breeding because it's fun.
But on the other hand, it makes breeding way too involved and take so long to complete.
I'm sure I could continue, but I think you get my point by now. At least, I hope so.
Luckily, I'm doing a lot better emotionally. Thank goodness for that, right?
I was getting sick and tired of being sad all the time, so now I'm trying to be happy more.
Now that I'm in a better place emotionally, I want to give RotR another try.
But, if this is going to work, the shop needs to change drastically from the way it is.
So, here's my idea...
1. Scrap the entire explore feature of the shop. No more World of Sprig.
Why? Because, like I said, it's been sitting forgotten for so long anyway.
Plus, with it gone I'd have more time to work on everything else.
2. But Panda! Exploring is how we get Dragons, Unicorns, Turtles, etc!
How are we going to get those breeds if there's no more exploring?
Don't worry. It's quite a simple fix. All I need to do is change the adopts.
I'll just add the Dragons, Unicorns, Turtles, etc. to normal adopts.
My artists (if any of them are still around) and I will cycle through the types,
meaning one of us would do a Regular, the next a Dragon, then a Unicorn, and so on.
Or I'd just let my artists pick what type they want to do, with the knowledge
that they need to try and keep things equal. So if one type isn't being done as much,
an artist needs to make one of those and not do any others for a little bit.
3. Waaaait! That sounds like you're not doing litters anymore. What's up with that?
Yeah, I would get rid of doing litters, along with the genetics system.
It just makes things harder on the artists and me when we have to follow strict restrictions,
just so I can use the confusing genetics system I have in place that only I really understand fully.
I'll probably stick with the idea they can only have certain patterns, but colors are free range.
Earth Rah'liani would still need to be based on another animal regarding the markings,
but the Fire, Water, and Air can have any sort of spots, stripes, etc. for markings.
And the colors would be completely unrestricted, as long as they look good together.
No poo yellow colors with blood reds and nasty greens, you know what I mean?
4. Everything else would basically be run the exact same way.
Adopts would either be First Come, First Serve; Best Form Wins; or Guess a Number.
Customs would be available and would still be based on random descriptions rather than ref pics.
Breeding would be available, but it would no longer be done with the genetics system.
Colors/patterns would be randomly put together from the parents as determined by an artist.
The Pound will remain in case anyone wants to give back a Rah'liani.
The Bank system would still be the same, and all Gemstones amounts switched over.
The Marketplace and items would be the same, as well.
That's basically all I can think of right now. All of these changes would mean a brand new thread.
You can keep your Rah'liani from the original thread, plus this version two, if you so wish.
But only the Rah'liani from this version of the shop will be allowed to breed with the new versions.
Now comes the best part. Feedback time! If you took the time to read all this babble, thank you.
I'd love to get some input from any of my customers who are still keeping an eye on this place.
If I don't get any replies at all, that'll definitely tell me what to do next - shut down completely.
I'm not really wanting to do that since I paid a lot for this lineart and worked so hard on the shop,
but I've got ideas for a new sprite adopt shop running around in my head so I'd just move on.
Please let me know your thoughts...
Should I go through with these changes and start fresh?
OR
Shut down the entire shop, get over my losses, and move on?
P.S. Artists, I need you to let me know if you're still willing to work for me in future.
I won't hold it against you if you've moved on to something else or can't help any longer. Thanks!
