Using my
Aspen and
Tigressa's Cecily! A little backstory:
Aspen is from the future where war and sickness ruined everything and food is scarce. He managed to contact Cecily in the past and created a time travel machine with scraps to travel to meet him. Aspen wanted to make cookies but.. some of the ingredients were new to him.
Aspen narrowed his eyes, studying the recipe in his hands. Flour? Did it mean flowers? What good would flowers be in the cookies? Maybe flowers and flour were different things. He longed to asked Cecily, but then the surprise would be ruined.
He looked it over again before sorting through the cabinets for the needed supplies. A few of the items on the upper shelves fell and Aspen lunged to catch them, flinching as a few clattered to the floor. Lucky for him, only one of the bags broke open. Brown sugar. Aspen let out a heavy sigh. Of course it had to be one of the things he needed.
Carefully, he cleaned the mess off the floor, returning the items to their rightful locations in the cabinet. He spared as much of the brown sugar as he could, hoping it would be enough. In the cabinet he located a bag that said flour but when he opened it, the only thing inside was a soft white powder. It reminded him a little of powdered sugar, but when he tasted it he recoiled with disgust. It was bitter, not sweet. He sniffed at it and sneezed, dropping the bag and cursing. This wasn’t going as well as he anticipated.
‘Okay,’ he mused, ‘Maybe flower and flour are the same thing. Flour is probably just… flower powder.’
Aspen walked over to the door, glancing into the garden. Could he just make his own? What kind of flowers were used in flour?
Sneakily he snuck out the back door and grabbed a handful of them; daisies, some lilies, and a rose for a touch of extra love.
How does one grind up flowers? Aspen looked around the kitchen, not seeing anything that would suffice. In the end, he just gave up and pulled out the butcher's knife, cutting them as finely as he could manage before dropping them into the bowl with the other ingredients.
‘Butter, eggs, sugar, flower, chocolate chips… What am I missing?’ Aspen stared at the recipe again, eyes narrowing. ‘Chocolate chips! Does he even have chocolate chips?’
Aspen searched in all the cabinets and couldn’t find any chocolate chips, defeat settling in his heart. There was probably no other chocolate in the house. Perhaps he could run out for Hershey Kisses? That’d be a nice touch.
He thought a little, considering the baking time of the cookies and the amount of time it would take to run to the store. He soon decided that he’d have enough time to slip out while the cookies were baking and still have enough time to stick a Kiss on top of each before they were fully done but not enough time left to melt the Kiss. It would be perfect!
Aspen excitedly molded the dough into little hearts, his own racing. This would be the most perfect Valentine’s day! Cecily would love the cookies!
Once he finished, Aspen slipped the cookies in the oven and triple checked the temperature he set it to. Glancing at the timer, he raced out the door to get the finishing touches.

With a bag full of gifts, Aspen entered the house and sniffed the cookie aroma. It was a tad different than he remembered, but the different flower probably made it as such. He unwrapped a few Kisses before opening the oven to gently press them in the cookies. He was happy to see them retaining their heart shape through the baking process. Only a few more minutes before they were done, too!
Aspen grabbed the card he had been saving for today and made sure it was sealed within its envelope. Carefully, he removed some thorns from a rose and taped it to the card. The timer sounded just as he finished.
He gingerly pulled the cookies out, flinching against the heat of the oven. Kneeing the door shut, he set the cookies to cool and made sure the oven was off. Once a few minutes had passed, he plated the cookies, grabbed the card and rose, and set off to find Cecily.
