Hey, I have another suggestion. C:
How about allowing people to challenge other users for something other than their original decoration?
Only, instead of the loser keeping the item and the winner getting a copy, the loser has to remove the item from their ever. That way the creator of the decoration doesn't lose control of the item's rarity, since it's just one copy being transferred rather than more copies being made.
As it is, if you lose a challenge for someone's decoration, that's pretty much your last chance for a fair bet for it. The owner of the decoration has your original decoration, so there's nothing else you can offer them. They can still accept a rechallenge if they're generous, but there's not any motivation for it. If you could challenge someone for items other than their original, you could offer another decoration you've won in the bet, or challenge someone other than the creator for a decoration.
In that case you may want to allow people to deny any challenges of this sort, though, without the 'you have to accept 1/3 challenges' rule. It wouldn't be much fun to have to risk completely losing a decoration you won.
Another idea is simple trading, one decoration for another. It doesn't really fit the whole gambling theme as much as all or nothing bets, but it might be nice to be able to be able to exchange decorations if two people each have something the other wants.
Both of these options do have a couple flaws, though. You can add a decoration to a flat image, but you can't remove it without either having the layered file or recreating the ever from scratch. This could cause some trouble for ever artists. If users who need ever artists to decorate their ever always go to the same artist, and that artist saves the layered file, it could be made fairly easy. The big files could take up too much space on the artist's computer, though...maybe they could be stored in a deviantart stash or something similar? That could also allow different artists to access them too.
It could also be a bit of a hassle for people who like to keep track of who owns their decoration. There's not really any solution I can think of for that that wouldn't just make the situation more complicated.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on the matter. It's an idea if you want it, though now that I've seen it all written out I'd definitely understand if you think it's more trouble than it's worth. x3
