Wolphee!Story:I stretched, yawning. My back popped, each of my vertebrae plunking into place with a satisfying click. Blinking blearily, I crawled out of bed and headed out of my "sleeping place". Another huge yawn cracked open my features (and such pretty ones they were too), as I got myself breakfast. Once I had breakfast, I began taking an interest in the world around me. The sky had decided it would match my fur today, with no clouds anywhere. Perfect.
I headed out to go play with my friends, noting the perfect temperature of the air. We romped, and wrestled, and raced, but as the sun climbed higher in the sky I felt myself overheating. I had forgotten I couldn't sweat, which was really problematic. My friends were having the same troubles, finding grass under a tree and stretching out under it to try to cool off. Maya (made up Lumi) was lucky and found some mud. Her brown fur matched the mud. Enviously, a frown creased my features. I flopped down in a patch of grass with a sigh. "We really have to figure out how to cool off, guys." Heads nodded in agreement to my statement.
Maya spoke up. "Hey... The mud is cold. How do we make mud?"
Obviously she wasn't the brightest. "You mix water and dirt, brainiac," I scoffed. "Dirt obviously isn't the cold part, though."
"Well then which part is cold?"
If my eyes had rolled any farther I would have been able to see the back of my head. "The part that isn't dirt. The water. So if we find water, we should be cooler." I didn't even know where Maya had come from.
We set off to find water, searching for a stream or a lake.
We reached a human establishment, and snuck through a few back yards. I glanced into a hole in one of them, and found myself transfixed. It was like a lake... but coloured like me. I took a careful sniff, snorting at the burning of the chemicals. A careful paw dashed out, tapping the water, and I withdrew it quickly in surprise. "Guys! This is water!" I leaned out and licked it-the water tasted horrible. I spat it out, wrinkling my nose.
Suddenly, something shoved my butt. A momentary panic flashed through my mind as my paws scrabbled to find a grip on the smooth surface. I hit the water and rose to the surface spluttering. One of my friends had a guilty grin, and I glared at her before hauling myself out of the pool.
Suddenly, I leapt at her, knocking her into the water. Before long, we were all wet and suddenly exhausted.
I sat on the edge of the water. I had the sudden urge to get the water off of me as quickly as possible. I kept to my feet, and shook like a dog. Water splashed all over my friends, startling one or two badly that they fell back into the water. Before any revengance could be levelled upon me, I was off like a shot. I zipped through the human compounds, fleeing back to the first. The breeze howling through my fur felt good, as did the natural feeling of the forest. I could hear my friends crashing through the undergrowth behind me, and I kept running until I was completely dry. Eventually, I began to slow down, moving from a sprint to a bit of a loping gait. When I found a good clearing, I stopped completely and turned to face my friends, who were all dry and laughing.
I joined in with the laughter, laughing until the tears ran from my eyes and my stomach ached.
