"Any idea how she died?" Rosaline asked, her blue and gold gaze peering at the molly next to her.

"No. We think she died when Sindri and I were born."

"During kitbirth?" Rosaline clarified, watching as Salem nodded. "I see."

Before her lay a deep purple and blue cat, her body securely embraced by overgrown grass. She had been deceased for some time - and yet, her body didn't decay. The force of life, her aura however, was completely gone.

"Do you think you could bring her back...?" Salem asked warily, watching as Rosaline's face scrunched up.

"Bring someone back from the dead? I don't think that type of magic has been tried before." Rosaline replied as she inched closer to the corpse. "Who was she, anyway?"

"Besides the fact we think she's our mother, we don't know anything. " Salem replied in a strained, yet mostly monotone voice. A tone that Rosaline bought; for the time being, anyway. With a breath, Salem continued, her tone much softer this time.

"Rosaline, you are the only cat we've ever seen not be limited by the Utility and Combat types of magic systems. Ones that have been in place for the cats of the Summit Grove for centuries. Any magic that can be taught, you can learn. You are a beautiful anomaly; if anyone could accomplish this, it would be you."

The words of praise made Rosaline's heart flutter. Something about Salem's way with words always got to her. She knew what to say and when to say it, every time without fail.

"Okay. I'll look into it. But please, don't get your hopes up." Rosaline replied, watching as Salem's ears perked up happily. "I'll head back to the tree. Consult the tomes." Rosaline turned, walking away from Salem swiftly, determination in every step. Once she was out of ear shot, Salem turned back to her mothers' corpse, her ears pointing towards it.

"No. She is brilliant with magic, not with social cues."

With great reluctance, Darkthunder obliged their feline companion in steering away from the lurking predator. They trotted behind the sparbled tom, ears pinned back so as to listen for even the slightest indication of them being followed. It was luck, and perhaps a bit of fate itself, that they could avoid another fight.  (Your patrol has ignored the fox and the predator has now left the territory!) 

"I wonder how Wildvine is doing," Peachthorn spoke absentmindedly, crimson eyes darting to and fro along the surrounding shrubbery. It was an empty statement, meant to fill the silence the duo now found themselves occupying. So he wasn't quite surprised to not receive any response from the accompanying feline. He was, however, startled by a completely random, unrecognizable voice that rang out from somewhere behind them. 

"Travelers! You there!" as suddenly as the voice sounded, a blur of grey pelt appeared right before them. Startled, the two cats took a few steps back, the hair raised along the length of their spines. "Stick! It is absolutely imperative you provide me with a stick right this instant!" the intruder declared assertively while Darkthunder stammered in utter shock, glancing from the stranger to their patrolmate in a desperate attempt for any semblance of logic. Yet, before either could truly reply, the newcomer let out an exasperated huff, "Blast it all! You have no stick, what a waste of time." With a puff of forest dust, the tom seemingly vanished right before their very (shocked) eyes. (Feather of Jay has appeared in need of a stick! Sadly, it seems your patrol has no stick to part with and he has disappeared from pure sadness :( )  

A moment of silence stretched between the remaining two felines as they each attempted to understand their very odd, very brief encounter. It wasn't until another voice interrupted their silence that they both regained their composure, "Peachthorn! Darkthunder! Are you here?" 

Relief rushed through Peachthorn as he recognized the voice. "Just over here, Twinklescar!" he replied, turning to face rumbling shrubbery as two of their clanmates emerged. 

"Are we.. not going to acknowledge what just happened?" Darkthunder asked in a hushed tone, glancing from where the stranger had appeared and disappeared only moments prior. 

"It seems we have bigger concerns at the moment," the acrid scent of blood washed over the tom's tongue as their eyes landed on Gingersnap's limping form. A knot formed in the pit of his stomach as Peachthorn padded towards the new arrivals, "What happened to you two?" 

The torbie she-cat wore a sheepish smile as she staggered to a stop, favoring a stretch of scratch marks along the left side of her flank. "I might have gotten stuck in some brambles..." (Gingersnap has been wounded along her flank and lost -25% health! No posts of rest are needed, she may continue to patrol as normal.) 

"But! It wasn't for nothing, she did manage to catch a chunky squirrel!" Twinklescar offered kindly, glancing at her companion with a warm, reassuring gaze before gesturing towards the two limp bodies of prey strewn across her back. (+3FP squirrel, +2FP sparrow.) 

The cream-colored tom couldn't help but let out a dismayed sigh, "I'm glad you're no worse for wear, but you really ought to be more careful. Herbs are becoming harder and harder to come by and-" the tom stopped as he noticed the dejected look on Gingersnap's face. There would be time to scold her later, for now, they should focus on helping her instead.

Peachthorn’s ears pressed firmly to his head as he nuzzled into Gingersnap. “I’m sorry, let's just get you home.” He mewed softly, nudging her towards the camp's direction. “Twinklescar would you mind going on without us? She really ought to get home with an injury like this. Wildvine will want to know as soon as possible.” His dark crimson eyes studied Gingersnap slowly with care. The trees that surrounded them rumbled in the wind as they spoke.

Twinklescar swiftly answered him. “Of course, it looks like your replacements have shown up already.” She chirped, her tail flicking a friendly hello to the newcomers. Bouncingpetal bared a bright smile on his face while Lingeringwish was concerned. Her small canine friend Fountaingraze ran tight circles around her legs as she shyly waved hello back. The sound of the rushing wind through the high up canopy seemed to calm all the cats a bit except for Darkthuner. The large dark colored molly seemed more fatigued that the party wasn’t up and moving yet. Her dark thin tail flicked with impatience, her spiked collar shifted as she huffed and puffed. Peachthorn glared at her for just a moment before sighing and letting her attitude slide. After all, saying something while she was in this state of annoyance wouldn’t do any good.

“We will get out of your hair, please be careful.” Peachthorn said as both light colored felines disappeared into the tree line. Leaving this large group to move through the ever ending terrain with no set leader may not have been the best idea. Darkthunder of course thought she was leading the party and yet Lingerwish wasn’t too fond of following her and would rather choose Twinklescar. Thankfully this dispute never got brought up and the party was able to travel together without complaints. Twinklescar led the group with Darkthunder hot on her tail, the lighter molly had a skip in her step while Darkthunder speed walked to keep up. Bouncingpetal carried Peanutburrow on his shoulder as he walked alongside Lingeringwish and her companion Fountaingraze.

A chuckle escaped Sunstar's parted lips, red curls bouncing against the frame of their muzzle. "Odd, perhaps, but certainly helpful in situations such as these," they smile warmly at the trio before bounding past Jaggedstrike. "Let's pick up the pace some! There's still much daylight to be had, but we don't want it to be dark when we head home." The others met Sunstar's pace, the patrol now trekking through the patchy grassland towards the familiar forest canopy. 

Tall trees yawned ahead of them, stretching their umber branches lazily above their heads. It was the sort of day in which every creature could be found basking beneath the sun and relishing the kiss of a cool breeze. From high above, birds fluttered by twittering playfully; and just beneath them skittered energetic squirrels bounding from branch to branch, showering the forest floor in scraps of tree and bits of leaves. (+90 stardust) A small sneeze escaped Dewnose as the debris showered atop his head, streaks of foliage finding their way within the tufts of his lilac fur. (+1 bindweed, +1 lavender) 

From a tail length away, Jaggedstrike shot the lilac tom a pointed, aggravated look; to which the tom returned looking sheepish. She let out a huff of exasperation before biting out, "I think I scent something ahead, let me go ahead and scout." Before any of the remaining patrol could respond, the fawn feline strutted towards the source of the scent with unabashed confidence. Upon reaching the odor, she was met with a baffling assortment of smells- sparrow, shrew, mice, and a few others she couldn't quite identify. It hung thick in the air, enveloping what looked to be an abandoned prey pile with the tall figure of a vulture leaning against it. (+5 FP vulture) Unease pooled in the pit of her stomach as she listened to the sound of her patrolmates trailing several cat lengths behind her. The scents were overwhelming, so overwhelming that the fawn she-cat failed to notice another odor overpower them all. Not until it was too late, at least. 

A yowl gurgled from the base of Jaggedstrike's throat as she found herself inexplicably shoved to the ground, a blurry figure of black and white pinning her down. Hot breath lashed against her wrinkled muzzle as large paws battered her shoulders. It took all of her strength, all of her energy to squirm her way free from the intruder's grasp; crumbling into a panting mess a few pawsteps away. The intruder- no, the badger- let out a deafening roar, shining pointed fangs beneath the lifted sun. It's dark eyes glared maliciously at the feline, lumbering towards her with a fearsome ferocity that left her dazed. Yet, the claws she anticipated to slash into her chest never arrived. Instead, the sound of her clanmates yowling rang around her, seeming to startle the massive beast. The creature whipped its head from the prey pile, to Jaggedstrike, then to the approaching felines before barreling in the opposite direction, letting out an irate grunt with every pounding pawstep. (Your patrol was immediately attacked by a predator [badger]! Luckily, nobody was hurt and the predator has now left the territory.)
