I don't see any problem with this suggestion, I would love my RRs to sit in their correct spots in my collection, even though I don't value RRs any less that TDs, it's just an aesthetic choice for me. I think this is a fine solution to that problem while still keeping the pets easily distinguishable from each other. Full support. <3

ive thought of this exact thing as well, im with you!!! i was considering maybe they could make it so that if the re-release returns to the release date after its been in rotation/the pet is 5, or 10, or however many years old, depending on the value of the pet. its a bit finicky but i completely agree with you in that the biggest challenge is their date not sitting where it ought to.

i would even be happy for them to have a re-release label on the pet's sprite or name so as to make it glaringly obvious theyre re-releases.

+ support!

I support this but I don't think, coding wise, it's possible. Would love to be wrong. My partner is a programmer and often explains to me all the ways overhauling cs would be a nightmare. Would be huge projects, if even possible, and would take a very skilled coder/s. Makes me sad :c I just try and appreciate what we do have. So, I give my support, but would be shocked if it could be implemented.

I really do wish they could sit correctly in our collections, I've had to make a separate folder for my OMGSR rats because its annoying and defeats the entire purpose of my collection of every rat when people can't just skip to the end and see all I've accomplished :( It will never look like a complete collection like I've worked to hard for when the OMGSRs and any other OG rats are majority lost in the sauce of commons and whatnot, so having two separate folders is effective but not at all what I intended and it is not satisfying in the slightest.

I've never been mad about TDs being worth more and having to pay more for them, because TDs don't NEED to be additionally special and expensive for something that is solely at the expense of RRs, if that makes sense. They are already and would still be exceedingly special and expensive for just existing, since their main appeal is having existed so long and having the correct date on them, and sometimes even low IDs.

I'm not sure about how this would even be done, though. Since I think changing the ordering of pets in people's inventories based on when they were released would be such a major overhaul and remove an entire aspect of the site that has nothing to do with RRs vs TDs. But I think that's the only way something like this would work, as I don't think slapping an entirely different date on a RR would be good considering that may put it even before a TD counterpart, and the visible date is important to people apart from the topic of RR and TD.
Idk, maybe keeping the "dec 18 (year it was adopted)" date but having it be placed after any TD of the same pet you may have in your inv might work. Theoretically. I can't code lol. Much to think about lol.

Support~

This might also help with the post clutter that happens around Dec 18th with people having to search through years to be able to find where their RR pet is from. I know the forums open a thread about it, but then that thread is just popping off nonstop on Latest Posts and your My Posts feed. :3

(you see examples of pets like this on this thread!)

i do agree it'd be awesome if their original month/year of release was easily visible on their pet page though! or if pets could be sorted by the order they are in in the archive.... that'd tank the td overvaluing overnight lol

probably a reeeeeally silly question but what would happen if you took the ID number of the last of a random ‘09 pet to be adopted normally, lets just say it’s 18383838, and then pasted it onto a re-release but added a decimal so it was 18383838.1? would the pet theoretically sit after that pet but before all of the seceding normal releases? what if december 18th pets went into the decimals after each of their respective, normally adopted pet’s last distributed code HAHAH sorry it’s 4am so im thinking so far beyond the realm of possibility

like i know the boxes just pop out a randomly generated, completely ‘new’ to the system pet with a whole new ID but what if instead of creating a whole ‘new’ pet they create a complete duplicate/replica of an ID that is already in the system and added another numerical variable to it as a decimal? so on december 18th, pets just keep duplicating and duplicating instead of summoning ‘new’ ones but each time there is a new duplicate generated on the 18th the decimal changes to keep the IDs unique

like how when you download multiple of the same image you have jpeg, jpeg (1), jpeg (2)

Decimals are not possible. URLS generally do not accept decimals and it would be more complicated than it's worth. Even if the URLS could be amended, there is no guarantee that the decimal character would have the pets sort correctly. It's better off we have a manual sort option for pets to sort by "archive". Unfortunately each image in the database would have to be coded a value to get them to sort properly. They may already have those values, I'm not sure, but sorting would have to acknowledge those values to get it to work. Unless there's a drag and drop system implemented like there is on dragon cave. I am not a coder, I only know some basic web design, so I don't know which one would be more complicated to make.

okay new idea what if each pet is first sorted into the system by adoption date, and then those are ordered by ID?
