I just want to say in case this thread gets locked or deleted:

I really appreciate how civil everyone is being. This is one of the healthiest discussion threads I have seen online. No one is at eachother's neck over things, no one is insulting people, no one is trying to put another down- it's just people talking about a site they're passionate about / adore. I am new so seeing all of you guys voicing what you've dealt with over the years and things you liked and disliked and noticed need fixing is really cool to find out about. This thread also gives new players like me hope because you guys are being understanding even if your account was made in like 2010 that being newer is difficult and trading is hard to do. So I just appreciate this site and community a lot <3

Also, for those who dislike the list, it's based on demand + AVAILABILITY. If there are less, they are worth more. If there are more, they are worth less.
Pets that cannot be rereleased [stores] are always going to be worth more in the long run.
The only thing that can be controlled on a userwide level is demand, though there are always the people that will try to squeeze as much as they can from a pet. I understand wanting a good value for your pet, but it really does hurt the CS economy over time TOT.
ESPECIALLY for the regular rares/high demand uncommons.
A Shima Longtail, a regular 09 VR, goes for 2-3 MAs? I personally find it ridiculous.

Items too, they don't get rereleased. Only the store items can be bought at any time. Other items are only released once.

And hey, trading just takes time. If you find the right user, you'll be able to trade low demand pets fairly! I've done it at least a dozen times with list rats, it just takes a user who realizes that demand doesn't have to mean everything!

AND
c$ & art is so hard. some people value 1 USD between 20-1kc$.
Based on REAL money, 1 USD is 20c$ : - ) ?
yeah, there is inflation but I mean..

I'm a new player here so feel free to ignore my response but one of the things about CS now- at least for me- is that's it's really hard to start out on? Like I only have rares and other such things bc I was gifted them by some v kind people but if that didn't happen I'd be dead in the water.
I also think it's quite overwhelming in general to start out- there's all these links and such to go over and that can def put off anyone who has low energy and/or a young child.
Also the economy is... interesting lol. There's a lot of emphasis on CS dollars and MAs and rares and such so it can feel a little impossible to progress. I can understand those types of things in art shops bc it's basically like paying a person (I personally try to make my art shop affordable to anyone with pets but that's just me personally) but in other things it can be...overwhelming.
That's all, sorry!

I would argue the non/MA system makes *more* sense than the old "list," since "non" is a defined term the way a dollar is, and "MA" is a smaller fraction of that defined term, the way a dime is. adding up numbers is a lot less confusing than saying "well, an evil pps + a balloon dog = a toxic, but a balloon dog + a lolita = a coontail"

I know those values are likely inaccurate anyways (I struggled deeply with trying to learn the old system) do you see how that kind of "trading" information would be completely indecipherable to a new player? and how you can't ever figure out what those kinds of things mean until you have an internal perspective & memory for every single pet's value?

conversely, saying a non = 100 rares and an MA is worth 1/10th of that - sure, it can still be confusing if you don't know where those terms came from, but "non" and "MA" can still be defined in a concrete, countable way.

sure it logically "makes sense" that nons and MAs work like dollars and cents, but now nobody will trade if your math isnt perfect :/ I think trading being more fluid and based on a demand that you cant exactly know at any given time is like...more normal? like, that's trading. having assigned values is just buying things and if you don't have enough MAs you'll never be able to get a non

but people wouldn't trade in the past either & would still be extremely cruel over values that were much harder to learn. I could believe that maybe this comes back down to the cruelty factor instead of the value factor - where it's a lot less nerve-wracking to feel like you're making a good trade if you feel like you could add it up reliably, but having a lot less courage to do so if your offer could be misinterpreted based on arbitrary information that's very hard to understand.

I always try to be super nice to people in trades and if I'm going to decline the trade I always try to give a good reason with a nice message so they know it's not their fault.

This is so true :') One of the bigger issues for me is how rude people can be over trades, especially when they assume you value pets/items the same way they do, and when you don't follow their unstated value system they throw a tantrum.

As for the site itself, I'm honestly ok with it being the way it is though. Some quality of life updates would be cool for sure, but I think this being something to come back to for a few minutes a day (esp outside of event periods) just to collect some pets here and there is fine. There are other things to do anyway :p

I do think there should be a "Christmas is July" type of mini-event where we get 1 or more days that are similar to Dec 18th. Either 1 day in July with 3 boxes, or 3 days and 1 box per day. Or up to 4 boxes, raising the count to 4 for each event.
I feel like that is a great way to help try and curb the crazy demand/inflation, there are just too many people and not enough pets, or at least too many people hoarding the rare pets. But by all means, as long as you paid a fair price for every pet, hoarding is fine. It SEVERELY hurts the economy when people hoard these ultra rare pets WITHOUT paying the fair price.
Which I'm sure plenty people do. :(

THIS!!! ive seen too many rare collectors try and trade me or someone else i know on dec 18th for pets at a very, very LOW and UNFAIR price. they don't have any excuse when they're trying to trade say, a handful of newer but rare event pets for my new malk dragon (as an example). staff know about this sort of stuff and simply dont care.

Basically I have seen from a lot of people on a lot of threads that when their trades are canceled, they get rude messages and people being insanely mean.

I think it’s fine to reply for an accepted or suggested trade, but if you cancel maybe instead of the message box we should just have a drop down list with a few basic options that say things like-

🔘no thank you
🔘this is not fair to me, sorry
🔘I’m not interested in that, but thank you anyway

Just basic stuff that’s not opening the doors for people to be mean and unnecessarily rude and gross to other players.

i think the reason why everyone is complaining about trading is cause tbh thats the only thing left to do on this. to put it simply there is nothing left to do here.
making friends is hard, just clicking to adopt pets is boring, nobody wants to rp, trading is a nightmare.
the only thing that i think encourages ppl to log on and STAY are events like the one going on rn. so much more activity near the events. i esp like this one with the little minigame they introduced.
ik events take a lot of time and effort to plan esp with the asmount of pets the aritsts need to make but what if they made more frequent, longer events. and instead of centering it around collecting pets (which would get old and be overworking for artists) they come up with these fun little minigames or contests or like just more story based things that keep ppl around. more interactive stuff basically
