another half-step in the chain! working with these spotty pups has been fun-- I won't lie I'm very partial to my parent from this rung of the chain. also it was SO COOL breeding them with this funky fella from the other gen challenge! do you think that makes these weird babies related to both my ocs Apricot and Mordekai? xD
anyway! COOLDOGOOO gets first pick of which pup they'd like to keep! the other two will stay with me until the end of the 10 gen challenge, at which point their fates will be decided! they won't be advancing onto the next rung of the challenge since this is a half-rung. :3 onto the pup breakdowns!
- pup 1 - left - sun and moon - I thought it would be cool to try and do parent A's fun layered mane colors, but with the various colors of orange/yellow seen in both parents! since orange/yellow are the accents for both A and B, I thought it'd make sense to have one pup who had a prominent accent of both colors. for the layered mane marking, this pup has those colors blended together with spots instead of stripes! I tried to keep this pup on the simpler side, and I think for markings I drew fairly evenly from both parents. they get their back marking from parent A, as well as the more minimalistic spotting on their body-- from parent B they get the white 'hood' marking, their 'sock' markings on their legs, and their toe bean marks. the middle blue is from parent A and the light blue is from B, and the orange/yellows are also taken from both parents. for this pup I thought a fun mutation of their mane trait would be to have the unedited tail from parent B, but to have that be a part of their big fluffy mane! additionally this pup has heterochromia in that their third eye is blue and doesn't match their regular eyes, which are gold and yellow. this pup only has a big moon crystal, no star.
pup 2 - middle - starcatcher - I was really on the fence about whether or not to do a pup that has no yellow/gold, but I really liked this pup's design as it was so I kept it! (though I do headcannon that their third eye is yellow/gold, that can be decided by their owner!) this pup gets their back marking from parent A, but I added a little more of that faux-gradient layering from parent B and went more heavy on the spots! also I added spotty white leg markings from parent B, and gave them a white mane but with more markings on their face instead of going for the hood marking again. I again took blues from both parents, but for this pup I did go for the cool four-color mane accent of parent A! on this pup though the colors only occur in one solid band each in another faux gradient, moving from the darkest color to the lightest color on the inner ear, eye, body crystals, and the tail tip. this pup only has a big star crystal, no moon. additionally I thought it would be cool to give them TWO sets of floaty wings, since both their parents have one set each! it's kind of like the trait stacked when it was inherited.
pup 3 - right - dreamcatcher - i really went bonkers with the spots here. this pup has more dark colors, and is the darkest in coloration out of the bunch! I gave them parent B's white 'hood' marking, but it just felt right to add a marking over top! the marking on their face is meant to be like parent A's marking, but I blended it out with spots like the other markings on this pup's body. this pup takes strong influence from parent B for their markings/shape, with larger more bold spots over top like parent A. I also made sure to give them parent A's paw markings! the funky circle ones, and the darker toes! this pup has a more traditional version of parent A's mane, with the colors occurring more than just once, and on this pup I brought that accent further into the horns and body crystals! this pup also got the characteristic gold eye of both their parents-- and it's still just so satisfying and striking as a color contrast. they have both kinds of crystal on their thigh bc i thought they deserved it < 3
