I decided to just have fun with some of the themes you gave!
1. Betta Fish Merpup- The Spots can be interpreted as Scales if you prefer
2. Bioluminescent Pup- I thought they looked cute with a little pearl necklace.
3. Moth Pup- Moth to a Flame maybe?
4. Flower Pup- The flowers can be a pattern on the pup or growths.
